Have you ever noticed how the company is very reseptive to suggestions or the needs of the employees during the holiday travel time? "You want to work a 4 and 3 schedule. No problem, we will start setting it up now".

"Hey, you have all been so good there will be pizza for all tomorrow"

"You want to leave a little early. Sure I'll take care of it"

This lasts until after the holiday travel then it's "you want what? I'll get back to you on that, after I talk to my boss."

Doesn't it seem a little funny? I know I'm not the only one who sees this happening. 🙂

pretty much puts "the company" in a no win situation...damned if they do....damned if they don't.

Appreciate the little things, yeah they are few and far between these days, but "the company" isn't an evil entitiy

Take my word for it, there are lots of "Perks" in the Airline business that are not found many other places. The first one that comes to mind is Shift Swaps. At my new place of employment, there is no such thing...If you are scheduled to work, you do Period..No 3 day weekends, no AM to PM trades...NADA..Nothing. If you leave early, you can bet that you will be punching the clock early and losing the pay for it. There have been many times where it is slow for a short time, and we are instructed to take a 1/2 hour break..OFF THE CLOCK!!! I am one who took all of the perks for granted as well, until they were gone that is. Enjoy and appreciate what you have, believe me...

These are not perks - they are trying to settle things down after Parker's meetings. We have been asking for the four and three schedule for years and now that everyone is pissed off and the holidays are here it is possible. I am not biting.

Personally, I think you do bite, but hey, thats just me.

Wings, thank you for the reality check, though there are some who still will refuse to see it.

Last time I checked, my 30 min lunch period was UNPAID. Not seeing the big whoop. IE; not all that different from your assertion of entitlement above.
By the way, they are evil, to the core.

The 30 Minutes that I speak of is NOT lunch, as we are P/T employees. This Unpaid break is forced upon some who are only in for 4 hours or less, and this could occur more than once per day depending on the workload. Imagine this taking place at the Airlines when there are no flights on the ground!!
As for the 4 & 3 shifts, these were up for discussion several years ago at US-East, and many were not in favor of them. Remember they pretty much Kill working a double shift for everyone on a swap, and they reduce your chance of OT as well due to the overlap of shifts. If I work more that 8hrs, I want OT for it, and if you work OT on your 3rd day off with the 4 & 3, it reverts back to time and a half. Of course that was back when there was Double Time...

WEll, when AWA mgt. gets into place at all the stations the good things should stay. U mgt. has been so terrible it will be a welcome relief i'm sure to see you guys work under the AWA way.

Hey just a thank you would be nice.Last year during the meltdown it was the Delta station mgr who brought us coffee food, water while we worked our 500 misconx bags, our US mgr could care less about us.

Last time I checked, my 30 min lunch period was UNPAID.

If I take a 30 min lunch I work 8 hours and 30 minutes. If I take a 60 minute lunch I work 9 hours. Thankfully I have a choice. Lunch time is my time not company time. Your point is?

[US mgr could care less about us.

I dont think that was the case at all. I think local management did and does care, they just had no clue what to do .....as was the case with many many front line workers. When mgmt. brought people in from other stations, the unions refused to let them do union work I can see the unions point...on a blue sky day, but when dealing with the debacle of last Christmas, they should have backed down. There were people qualified to run bags and work the ramp, as well as inside functions, but they were not permitted to. There were those of us who wanted to do it, on our own time....FOR THE COMPANY, which in turn makes it doing it for ourselves.

Hard to blame management when the unions were just as much at fault in SOME..areas.

Unions protect but unions can also restrict. But again, it all boils down to each individual and how they get along with their fellow employees. In a smaller group/airline, the crossing of union boundaries isn't at the forefront as much as in a much larger group/airline. Personally, I hate to see the "small" airline/work group fade. 🙁
