GIFTS FROM THE COMPANY?

If it was not for those pesky unions US/East would have been out of business several years ago.

I guess you forget the $2.4 billion the employees gave in the two years from the first bankruptcy and the billions given back under the lastest bankruptcy.

And remember the company signed all of the previous CBAs and no one held a gun to their head.

What about the 4 1/2 years from 1995 till 1999 that the Mechanic and Related employees did not get any raises other then pay progression during contract negotiations as the company was stalling?

Those of us who were topped out recieved no raises during that time period.

I now work for GE with NO unions, and in fact receive BETTER benefits and wages BY FAR for NOT having union representation. We also don't have silly rules that can't be bent or broken because of unions.

Face it 700, unions are now a liability and no longer an asset for the working man. The few places left with unions are targets for eventual elimination because they can't complete with union promoting inefficiencies inherent in the union structures with antiquated work rules.

I am NOT slamming unions here, I am simply stating FACTS as I live them.

Just last week another 620 UNION members in the Pittsburgh area here will be axed by 2007 as GM tries to right itself. So those jobs along with thousand and thousands since the 70's are gone in the Pittsburgh region alone, and what stopped it, union representation? It's obvious unions are no help stopping all the jobs cuts past and future, so why oh why would one even want to pay unions dues when their track record is extremely dismal, most rational individuals don't.

Your constant pasting of "facts" and why unions are needed and the IAM is needed more in particular is almost pathetic. I again am NOT slamming you, just stating reality in today’s world where unions have done absolutely nothing whatsoever to stop all the job losses, pay and benefits cuts.

I heard Jake S a union bigwig on the radio a few months back making a fool of himself trying to explain why unions are needed and when asked and pointed to the same things I am saying here he simply acted flabbergasted and hung up on the talk show host. Like all unions, they hung up on the membership years ago so why would a reasonable rational thinking working person even want to consider union representation these days!

Fact 700, these are nothing but FACTS, just not the kind you want to accept.

Funny General Electric has plenty of unions, the Engines Plants in Wilimington, NC are IAM as well as many others.

IAM Reaches Tentantive Agreement at GE
Waukesha, WI, June 16, 2003 - IAM negotiators say a tentative agreement with General Electric “makes significant strides†in several important areas of concern to 2,800 IAM members working at 18 GE facilities across the nation.
“The IAM made major improvements in job security, health care and pensions, along with improvements in many other areas of the contract†said IAM Vice President Robert V. Thayer, who led the IAM bargaining team.

Thayer credited a “united membership and a dedicated negotiating committee with bringing negotiations to a successful conclusion and winning a contract that we all can be proud of our members on the shop floor stood strongly behind this committee. They made the difference.â€

By a unanimous vote, the bargaining committee recommended that the agreement be adopted. Balloting will take place June 23-25.

Don't let the facts get in the way of one of your rants!

i'm callin' you out....
Honestly...just posting facts, clear and real facts.

You dude, I know are a staunch union supporter and you also live around me close to Pittsburgh and witnessed all the jobs losses over the last 30 years, thousands upon thousands and still counting with GM’s announcement last week of 620 more UNION jobs joining the other thousands, and this is just around the Pittsburgh. Hell, I work with a ton of older guys from Sharon Steel and Bessemer Rail which are both history, all once good paying union jobs, GONE. What in God's name did the unions do? Post classified ads on their web site, have union leaders proclaiming in the press that Timco's $13 an hour jobs are good, the jobs taking the once $30 an hour at the exact same location! The same location that was represented by Mr. Fried Burger now is going non union sweat shop and he has the balls to say in the press that is a good thing! This is why unions are failing, look whose the leadership positions, morons like Fried man.

Then we had big mouth Vic M who screamed at union meetings and what do we have today, more jobs gone and he is in retirement living off your unions dues while thousands are looking for work.

Give me a friggin break, unions are has-beens and useless in today’s world.

Anyone thinking otherwise is delusional.

Rant off---Happy Thanksgiving

GE non union guys were in the PIT FAB doing 5th stage reworks on cfm engines, related they got regular raises, bennies due to the unions at other ge facilities.

Gee, Cal why have you ignored all the facts about unions at GE?

And why do you have insult the very people who got you the high wages and benefits while you were at US?

Your crude insults truly show your lack of character.

Don't let the facts get in the way of one of your rants!

If you think or believe all those places are not being watched and targeted awaiting elimination the second the bottom line is adversely affected, and it WILL be with this new world economy, then you are living in an alternate reality. I am at what was called an experiment and why we are working 24/7. The experiment proved that unions don’t equal profits, but just the opposite. The very nature of unions dictates zero incentives to succeed, and why many are no more, with many more to follow. Go to http://www.demolitionx.com/PlantClosing/ and see unions in action.

Was boofman a gentleman or a moron Al...which was Lavman, or Teflon...should I continue

You still have failed to admit you are wrong and I was the one who proved you wrong.

And it has been proven the unionized companies are actually more productive and profitable on a equal basis.

Your speak out of both sides of your mouth.

Guess you are bitter that you left US and wish you were back since you are here posting or actually just stirring the pot.

And you have not posted any facts.

Gee Enron shutdown and they were non-union, more non-union plants close and move overseas then unions.

Southwest Airlines, highest percentage of unionized workers, highest wages and most profitable airline for over 30 years straight, guess you forgot about them since they would not hire you.

calibrator- theres no particular mention of whether these are/were union represented jobsites.
besides unions you should list EPA mandates and cheap 3rd world labor for these closings i'd bet.....
hey cah-lee-braytor happy thanksgiving 😉

They also got the airline "engine" industry locked down...while the U employees are OUT, so where is the IAM?

REALLY?

Here’s the deal. My brother-in-law was here today who has his own business and making a fortune from these closings. When you find out why they are closing it’s always labor cost which “almost†always equals unions.

FACT.. The state leading the pack is Pennsylvania. FACT and why? Because it was also leading the pack with unions with Pittsburgh being a big starting point for labor. He is making millions by selling the leftovers to others that are growing, CHINA being the main country as well as Brazil. These are all FACTS. The catalyst for these drastic moves is “labor costs†which are made high by “unionsâ€, fact.

Now do I like these facts? Hell no, but my anti-union point/stance is only strengthened by theses “factsâ€.

Unions are helping this country sink into the toilet faster and not slower with their extrinsic mind set and helped along with Father Bush and the New World Order and Globalization which is killing, absolutely killing, this country’s working class. So what does labor do, they back the very people who backed NAFTA, GATT and WTO.

Dues money only speeds up and doesn’t slow down the decline of working class America. Unions are helping seal this countries fate and even speeding it up with the globalization snowballing effect with unions giving it momentum. People like my Brother-in-law are making tons of money and thanking the unions that are what they are, useless.

You always come in last 700, and the IAM is keeping you right where you’re at.
