and once again the labor movement wants to focus on fear - the fear that profits won't be there despite the overwhelming evidence that airlines can be consistently and strongly profitable and that US airlines are in the midst of the best period of profitability the industry has ever seen.

and, as unions do, implanting that fear comes at the cost of gaining the highest compensation. Employees in the industry who have profit sharing will gain higher total compensation than those who do not.

Can you go to a bank or financial institution and get a loan based on unknown profit sharing?

Profit sharing is not money in the bank, its based on a premise that their will be profits, what happens when they arent any profits?

How much will the profit sharing checks be then?

And DL arbitrarily cut the PS by 33% to 10%, the only reason they are getting 15% this year is because DL is expected to hit the $1 billion mark in profits, if they didnt it would still be paid out at 10% with no input from its non-union employees.

They would laugh are your application, the facts are there and the airlines are cyclical.

Every legacy filed chapter 11 to remain in business.

nope. you can't borrow on profit sharing.

tell me how many employees would rather take lower compensation in order to be able to borrow 100% of their income?

precious few people believe that borrowing on 100% of your income is a good idea.

And you still can't counter that there is abundant evidence in the airline industry that employees who participate in profit sharing make more in total compensation than their peers that do not.

your bird in the hand comment highlights once again the need for control that labor unions harp on even though evidence is clear that those who are willing to give up control over the "certainty" of their income actually end up with more of it.

go ask the PMUS CWA folks if they had lower compensation in exchange for the PS      PS is not guaranteed   esp at DL who can and has changed it without any input from their front line folks.   Go ask the DL pilots how much they got then ask folks like Kev Dawg Glenn etc how much they got vs the pilots

Taken from the Delta Code of Ethics....page 25 CONFLICTS OF INTEREST WHEN YOU ARE EMPLOYED AT DELTA

"It is very important that we be loyal and objective toward our common purpose of advancing Delta’s interests. We all have lives outside the Company, but our outside activities should never interfere with our responsibilities to Delta. A “conflict of interest” arises when your personal, social, financial or political activities have the potential of doing just that – interfering with loyalty and objectivity to the Company. Actual conflicts must be avoided, but even the appearance of a conflict of interest can be harmful, too.

In some cases, the activities of a close relative, such as a spouse, can also create a conflict of interest. This is because the employee’s loyalty may become divided – or may appear to be divided – between loyalty to the close relative (and that person’s interests) and loyalty to Delta (and the Company’s interests).

You MUST show loyalty to the Company above all others. YOU MUST OBEY!

Communism 101.

and your point is?

as for US, Parker is a master at convincing his employees that they are better off despite the fact that they are paid less.

go ask the FAs if theyre paid less now     My hunch is no they are not   now that they have a JCBA deal and are paid more than DL FAs

let's see by the end of this year when profit sharing is handed out who ended up with more compensation.

I feel pretty comfortable in saying that Kev will leave DL as a non-union employee
Good for you.

I'd say the company has the "fear (of loss)" market cornered.

That it's 25 pages long should tell you all you need to know...

The balance of any PS won't be handed out until 14. Feb.2015.

Interestingly the two CO flight attendants (Peter Greenberg and Julie Frietchen) are now working for the international in roles that pay in excess of $100k.  Guess they are too bitter from the AFA's victory in 2011 following the UA merger that the union created positions for them.

Having never worked a day for DL how can they know what the DL F/As are facing and effectively represent them?  Having my sCO friends check the seniority list and even see if they are on union leave or completely left the company.

Julie worked for XJ, and she is an instructor at Placid Harbor, she worked many years as a line flight attendant before becoming a GC for 142 and was hired at Placid Harbor, she is a friend of mine and we were on the CO FA NC together in 2005.

I have had a few dealings with Peter during my tenure at 142, so are you saying no union member should be allowed an opportunity to advance themselves and advance their duties to the membership?

I'll echo the comment Bob Baker left on the video, looks like the cushy IAM role has made her career and provided her the standard of living, not the IAM negotiated CBA.

Guess they are in the same leagues as the Roach, Pantoja, O'Driscoll, Aldofini from TWA who have stuck around at the IAM after their carrier and workgroup are no longer IAM represented.

After all if the IAM did such a great job at CO, why did they get decertified?
