There is absolutely no guarantee that we will have access to a pension plan if the IAM wins the election. Some very misinformed flight attendants have been convinced otherwise, but it is not true. It would be far more accurate for us to guarantee that we will not get a pension, but we won't go quite that far. Instead, we'll place the odds somewhere around the same as winning the lottery, and people do win the lottery, right?

Employers across the country are dumping pensions left and right. Boeing just forced an entire IAM workgroup out of their pension plan in the Seattle area. The local lodge leadership and members were adamantly opposed to eliminating the pension, but IAM International President Tom Buffenbarger did not want Boeing to shut down the factory where all of those dues-paying machinists worked, so he used a sneaky trick to get the vote to pass. - You are represented for the purpose of collective bargaining by a lodge chartered by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). The collective bargaining agreement may be with another union if accepted by the Trustees.
- Your employer has agreed in writing to make contributions to the Plan on your behalf.
- Your employer is accepted, in writing, as a contributing employer by the Board of Trustees, and makes the required contributions.
