What's new

Heard there would be an announcement on AFW Friday.

You need to chill buddy!!

I don't know who the friggin idiot is here, but AA will not change......the ONLY thing that will change is OUR pay and benefits. Period! The management style will NOT change. Arpey said the same thing 9 years ago and we've seen where that leadership style got us. I don't believe ONE word that comes out of management's mouth.....IF you do, god help you.
I will believe it if the Title to this thread is true.

If it/we don't change then we're sunk...

Could be BS but heard from a friend in the white house today they are going to announce the closing of AFW this Friday. This is for informational purpose only and not trying to start another rumor. It's just what I heard from the source.
Well US did this to the Tampa hangar and violated the WARN act, and they had to pay each employee an additional 60 days of pay and benefits.

They have to issue WARN Act letters and notify the state before they do a mass layoff closing a facility.

one thing that afw has going for it is taesl. that might not mean much but it is one of the few things that earn a profit at aa. another is the test cell for the trent engines. there is only three in the world, one in england, one in singapore, and one at afw. and what we were told at a town hall meeting is that it cost 60 million dollars to build a test cell for the trents, so you cant really just throw one up anywhere. but then again i have seen aa piss away tons of money.

nashville, raleigh durham, san jose, etc.

AMR should have issued WARN letters to everyone on December 1.

TPA was closed with less than a day's notice if I recall, so US got penalized for not giving any notice whatsoever.

WARN also provides an out for giving less than 60 days notice when the layoffs resulted at a faltering company or due to unforeseeable business circumstances. Since it is a lease rejection, its hard to say what would pass as unforseeable circumstances. I'd guess at a minimum, 30-45 days notice (reasonable wind down for checks in progress and removal of tooling) if not the full 60.

Didn't Eagle mail out some WARN letters not long after filing?

I don't think the OP is talking about layoffs that will happen on Friday, but that on Friday, AA will announce (and mail out WARN letters) a shutdown to occur in the future.

Here are a few things to think about:

1. AA is buying primarily narrow body aircraft to replace its narrow body fleet. Tulsa is primarily a narrow body base.

2. Aerotek Aviation supervisers and personell were seen touring the Tulsa facility. Aerotek is a 3rd party MRO operater.

3. The demographics of Tulsa have changed dramatically in the last 10 yeras. When I was in town recently it reminded me of Dothan Al. IE depressed economy, low housing costs, eager employees willing to work for cheap, fyi Dothan is an old air base just like Tulsa.

4. Enviromental concerns. Just because the plating shop is there doesent mean anything at all. Ie Reno hangar. Cheapest in the system at 1500 bucks a month for a modern hangar that could fit a 757 in it. They closed it down. Im sure that the Tulsa base is so badly polluted that it would qualify as a superfund site but im sure there is some clause in the lease agreement that they will be held harmless.

5. Centralization of the operations. They are moving tech services to centerport. With DWH doing B-checks and AFW able to handle their wide body load and it being closer as well as easier to keep on eye on. Also logistics for parts and supplies will be cut down greatly as they have shorter distances to travel.

6. Turbine Building- could be sold to GE services.

7. Cam building- Part of the deal to go to Aerotek possibly.

8. Tulsa- been there lately? Not much going on . The oil boom is now in North Dakota and north west Texas due to emerging technologies.

9. Tulsa could become a wholly owned subsidiary of AMR along the lines of AMR maintenance and engineering. Where all work is part 145 work.

Now this could also happen to AFW as well but again we dont really know. What I will say is that the time to pay the piper is upon us. It is high time that you realize that we really dont have any control over this at all. The plan was in place 6 monts ago at a minimum. And yet you still hold on the the dream that AA couldnt survive without Tulsa or AFW. They can. The twu will go along complicitly because thats what their masters told them to do . John Sweeny didnt get a seat on the tri-lateral comission by representing the union members of the afl-cio. He got it for keeping them in check and selling them out when needed. Realize that you have been out smarted by those in the company with help from those in leadership posistions in the union. If you dont want to believe me about the trilaterl comission appointment for sweeny you can download their membership list here -trilateral membership list he is listed under North American Group by alphabetical.

I agree wih you 104% bro !! Numbers don't lie ..
We (AFW) are the best performing base in the system !!
A great group of amts with Alot of experience and dedication ...
Even more reason to red circle AFW..

Delta use to say Dallas (the mtc base) made money had great numbers etc.etc. Now it belongs to American.....

They don't care about numbers, we went from 3 week M80 overhauls to a month and half at GDL. (the 2nd vendor in 6 years)

Hoping for the best for TUL and AFW (and DFW/MIA/LGA/JFK/BOS/LAX/SFO and anywhere else AA has hangars and or line MX)

ABSOLUTELY!!! And, it's been going on for decades. The only ones that have made out like bandits are the senior management within AA and TWU. That's because most schmucks care about CS Policy and non-essential company privledges instead the things that should mean the most to US......Pay, Bennies and PENSIONS.....instead the unions sat on their arses and watched the company lobby congress to defer contributions to OUR pensions, not the TWU pensions Little and his cohorts get, and slice and dice our healthcare costs....again something the TWU mafia doesn't see.....they get 100% coverage thanks to our union dues. Why should they care what happens to US....they don't have any SKIN in the game. It's pathetic and WE all sit by fat, DUMB and miserable while AA and TWU tag team against US. Period!!!!
We'll now all get a chance to see how hard the TWU will fight for US or themselves........bet on the latter!

The demographics of Tulsa have changed. There is a brand new ball park and the BOK center is also new. We hosted an round of the NCAA basketball tournament last year. Downtown is being reborn with bars, restaurants and condos. I am sure the developers and owners of these establishments would love to hear how depressed it is. The only demographics that have changed is that TWU members make a lost less money than they used to so we cannot enjoy these things as much as we used to. These places don't seem to be hurting for business though.

That's right old guy....that's the only thing that has changed within AA and TWU......OUR PAY and BENEFITS!!!
When are members going to realize that the TWU is just as corrupt as AA management???? How many additional years of pay cuts are YOU going to endure besides the 9 years WE already took, to realize that Jim Little, Videtich, Gless, Drummond, Conley, Gordon, their secretaries and everyone else living on OUR dime......Has absolutely NO SKIN in this game, yet they're the ones calling the shots on OUR future??? It's time to kick the TWU out the door........and to tell you the truth, at this point I would rather be non-union than have this cancer called the TWU around to collect $600 a year for absolutely nothing in return beside a kick in the arse!!!!

I would love to have a real union, but we need a membership too. What difference does it make who represents us if we have TUL calling for the closure of AFW, AFW calling for the closure of TUL. DFW trying to red circle and line guys calling for the outsourcing of all O/H? We can blame the TWU for selling us out time and time again, but how do any of us get anything better if we are willing to drop someone else in the grease? We do know a couple of things for sure. 1-The TWU is only interested in their own bottom line and have sold us out in order to keep the head count up. 2-The company filed BK to get more give backs that they could not get any of the unions to agree to after dragging negotiations out for years.
That said, I will leave it up to the judge to decide. All the gloom and doom and threats by so called experts on this blog mean nothing. The fact is that we handed AA the knife to stab us in the back in 2003. We basically gave away all the benefits we had in order to keep things we didn't have yet. (pension and retiree medical)I refuse to hand the knife to them again. I am guessing they will try to get a multi year contract with us that leaves us with the same crappy benefits and pay(minus the pension the retiree medical), but with much higher medical costs and even more crazy work rules. We already have the worst pay and benefits in the industry, so we really have nothing to lose by voting no. I am actually interested to find out if the retiree medical plan is, as we have been told, BK proof.
BTW.... Today I saw a print out from jetnet. 6 pages of new hires (in Tulsa) dating back to October. Most are building and ACFT cleaners. A few AMTs sprinkled in and a few management hires.
