I just sent an email to Comments@phl.org with my thoughts as to why it would be unwise for the city to take international gates away from US and give them to Delta for simple domestic flights. No cool aid here, I'm even a westie too how bout that?, but I'd like to see this place survive, and if we want to see this airline grow and it's already been said by the company they want to do it from Pilly then how bout we send the city a clear message. Just takes a couple of minutes, I know the company hasen't done much for it's employees but I think this is a good cause. Let them know how foolish it would be for them to turn down literly millions of new revenue generating dollars from new international flights for the mere pennies domestic flights to Atlanta and Florida would bring.

That's a great way to enlist help of "west" employees. We all work for the same crappy place. One big happy disfunctional family.

US doesn't deserve the gates, they can't run the airline the way it is now how the hell will these gates help them. Just more pissed off pax.

Only if US plans to fly more year long service. Have you ever seen A-west during the winter? It is practically a ghost town during what would be part of the European rush in the summer. Why allow US to sit on more gates in A-east during the winter?

Because U ponied up over $300 Million for the new A terminal.

As far as helping this airline do squat, heck no, were is my retirement? Keeping gates is another of management's jobs, not mine.

where is my retirement?

It's in John Davis's retirement account.

The Retirement Committee told the MEC two years before the first bankruptcy we needed to freeze the retirement fund.

John Davis, the PIT Captains Rep who controlled the MEC, said no, USAir will never file for bankruptcy.

John Davis got his lump sum.

Maybe we can ask UPS if we can use some of their facilities for Int'l. Hell US thinks of their passengers as cargo so what the hell right? 😉

I am sick and tired of this management team thinking everyone should do their job and they make a hell of alot more than I. From hiring consultance to rallying employees to write letters, how about actually MANAGING and NEGOTIATING because it's YOUR job!!!

Are you sure you didn't drink the KOOL-AID ?? Because the entire tone of this post reads like you drank right from the pitcher and not from a child's sippy cup.

Are your balls missing too?

Or are you from the Sandcastle 😛h34r: trolling the message boards?

Reeks of cactus juice to me. 😉

I agree no one should help the company keep the gates. It's better for them to fail and go out of business this way everyone on this board can be happy. It would be much better for US to go out of business to remove he necessary capacity out of the system to aid the other airlines. I would much rather Delta, AA, etc. be successful and ensure long term employment for those employees that help my fellow worker by helping my company keep the gates.

I think that USAirways should be allowed to keep the gates on the condition that they help alleviate air traffic crowding at PHL. Cut express flights by 2/3 and put mainline aircraft on those routes. Instead of 12 little-airplane flights a day to LGA, put 3 or 4 A319's a day. Go through the express schedule city by city and do the same thing. PHL is no place to be running so many Dashes and RJs (nor is LGA, for that matter....the Port Authority should rescind every mainline slot at LGA that USAirways is operating with an RJ or Dash. THAT would get Doogie's attention.)

Time to take some REAL steps toward alleviating air traffic congestion.

I'm with you, they need to show that they can manage what we have resposibly---which they don't know how to do. If you ask me, it's a long time coming and we deserve to lose the gates the way mgmt. handles that HUB. I'm ashamed to say that I even work here after 20+ years....it's embarassing.

I've spent most of my career here "helping" the company with pay cuts, flying long duty days (sometimes breaking my contract, to "help" out), giving up my off days, flying when I was sick because they were out of people. The list goes on and on. Basically my "help" meter is pegged.
I'm sorry I just can't help them keep what they truly do not deserve. The people of PHL who pay for airline service deserve better---and US cannot give it to them.
I won't be jumping on this band wagon with you.

I think YOU are on to something here. Maybe they should convert a good portion of the fleet to all-Cargo, that way they could really lower their operational costs. Since the level of Customer Service from the Top is barely identifiable, I am sure the customer would barely notice. They probably would find a loophole in the FAA mandated crew staffing FAR (that is until they get busted and fined because "They thought..."). As far as seating.....just equip them like a military transport, minimal comfort and no recline. 😛 <As far as letter writing, I have been sending telexes all month to the Chinese Embassy....I can only do SO MUCH y'all)

Reducing RJ flying is never going to happen. The simple business fact is that passengers prefer more time options, so if that means running 8 RJs or Dash-8s versus 4 320s, that's what's going to happen.

Delta and Continental both proved this simple concept many years before US caught on.

The PHL/NYC airspace is being reconfigured and that will likely alieviate some congestion overall.

Delta moving to A-East has nothing to do with the $300M investment US made in A-West, other than it will force US to utilize the A-West gates pretty tightly.

The best people to write and complain would be residents to write to their local councilmembers since they are the tax paying constituents that have the best chance at getting someone's ear.
