IAM Fleet Service topic 28June-

This is how it was in the TWU contract. It didn't do a damn thing towards getting Management to do it right, but if you fought to get paid for their error you would. Personally I think there should be a penalty for ALL violations, not simply a 'fix' to the grievance.

This is exactly why the contract is so important. Grievances are difficult, time consuming and expensive..
especially if they wind up in arbitration. The best a gievance can do is to "make the employee whole
in every way". They cannot be punitive nor can they yield a result such that a lawsuit could produce.
We had a guy that got fired, IMO. wrongly. The worst that he should have gotten was a level two. He also
had a good case for a lawsuit against the company. But in order to do that he would have had to go through
alll the greivance proceedures and then he would be free to take his own legal action. So he accepted
a leval three in his 2nd step greivance.
So my recommendation is to start gearing up. Among US fleet service there are many different interests...
PHX, PHL,CLT, LAS East field stations and West field stations. All should be proportionally represented in negotiations.
And I would hope that all will find enough common ground to brings us into these negotiations as strong
as ever.

Hey BagFather,

Good to see you back. I for one would like someone with your education and knowledge of the contract

to represent me in negotiations . Something for you to think about.

question for those in the know. in the district elections did Mark W . win or lose and also did
Mickey H win or lose ?

The way it reads on the http://iam141.org/election/june.html site MH is in and MW is out......
By looking at the results, it seems that UA got the vote out there and took 10 of the 14 seats available. Looks like our AGC's will be spread out with their hands full. Will be interesting to see how the regions for each AGC pan out.

Actually, to cut costs and be more accountable, the District decided to cut two UA AGC positions. Canale only increased staff.
The ND actually increased US positions within the District. IMO, this is a direct result of the level of participation from US AIRWAYS members. The more we participate, the bigger the voice and that has worked out in this situation also. In PHL, we haven't always agreed with the ND but we have worked together with them and they have responded by giving us the resources and our very own AGC to resolve an incredible amount of local issues, in return, we now have our LC moved up to a VP spot which should position us with two or three PHL members on the negotiations team or District team.

As far as MW. We were told here that him and the other US MF team members were mathematically eliminated very early on [I think it was the first part of the second week of voting] because the MF UA members only voted UA and tossed their US ticket under the bus except at US stations.

Question regarding our IAM Pension fund. When looking at individualized information, what figure does the accrued benefit represent? Is it, 1) the total amount available in one's fund, or, 2) the amount one would be paid monthly if you were to retire today? I have looked high and low in the FAQ's and have not come across the answer. Thanks.

Bagchucker--

If you go to the website, you can design any number of models to figure out what your pension will ultimately be.

Hey PHX, how's the ferry looking? Is the LC going to let the contractor do your work if it comes in a bit too late?

I think you're right in that there was a reason for those positions being vacant. Your analysis of why they were not fill is incorrect. Those positions were not 'open' so they could not be filled. Because they were not open the furloughs in LAS were not eligible to displace to them. When those positions finally opened up the senior employees displaced by and large had already moved and would not do so again, especially at their own expense. I know many of those that transferred to PHX TL from LAS. Pretty much all of them were junior FT or were PT. Most of them still had homes in LAS and nothing permanent in the other cities, or were commuting and never left LAS. Had those positions been open at the time of furlough you would have probably had them filled by FT LAS rampers with 7-10 years seniority.

And for the record I do not believe Jester and CHP to be one and the same. CHP knows more about LAS and Jester doesn't know enough.

Eagle craps on sunday for unemploymnt and free internet at a cafe saves some $$$. youre right many PHX TL werent going to transfer b/c they have homes in vegass. but wrong that everyone else was alreaddy gone when those opened up in phl and dca. The report date was after 2/14/10 last day. Most transfered left only the week before. PHX TL were open month before or more. if people were going to PHL or DCA wanted PHX TL they could have gone w/o moving twice. J.Y. did that from PHL and D.S. tried from MIA. PHX TL so bad that Photo Jr. P.B. stay DCA and they were TL qualed and family in vegas. low seniority guys could get PHX TL b/c so bad. Me wont go and others and you know who I talk about. Glad im not in the heat this summer at 114 on ramp at LAS.

Thanks for being honest! When 206 LAS agents were furloughed an LOA, Letter of Agreement was signed by an AGC allowing anyone system wide to transfer to PHX as a Lead, that said, yes leads are not treated fairly in PHX nor are the agents! Yet this allowed up to 40 or more agents to go to PHX. Lots of negotiations took place for this to happen. If anyone did not want to go as lead to PHX so let it. At least the Union tried to help! Many other small negotiations took place on an individualized basis to let LAS and other employees transfer on a non presidential status move wherever to help them if what was offered was not beneficial to them. NO UNION NO CHOICES!!!
