Kindly reread what I said. 100% of all US airline based rampers who have EVER had a teamster contract have either voted them out or lost their job. 100%.
The US AIRWAYS customer service are not represented by the teamsters, they are represented by the airline passenger service associations which is an independent non-aflcio union. That organization was voluntarily recognized by US AIRWAYS after the IBT and the CWA agreed with management to force a contract without a vote. It's all in the NMB files. The IBT and CWA administer the airline passenger service association. Check the LM1 files on the DOL. Actually, since the Airline Passenger Service Association is an independent, the IAM can raid that group at any time.
The only Teamster contract for ramp or passenger service workers for a US based airline is on Republic airlines. The Teamsters got Republic to voluntarily recognize them during Pilot and Flight attendant negotiations. Not one Republic worker voted on them. In return, the Teamsters became the first union to sign on to a dreadful attendance policy.
Not surprisingly, the Teamsters protected its pilots at Republic and all the fleet service and passenger service workers it represents got laid off. In fact, teamster contracts have provided more IAM jobs than Teamster jobs since The teamsters have agreed with Republic's CEO Bedford to have IAM members do the teamster work while the teamster members were thrown to the street.
It makes no sense for any airline worker to consider the teamster union when they have a strong track record of failing miserably in this industry for non licensed workers. When we were teamsters, we almost voted them out before the Piedmont merger if not for 18 IAM votes that were counted. As much as we told them we wanted more than 4 stations, they just didn't listen. Our Local was in New York and when we had a grievance issue we had to call a business agent in PIT. We ended up doing our own thing on occassion since our non-elected rep was a long way from home. Eventually, we had enough so when it came to a vote between USWA, IAM, IBT, it was no secret that the IBT would finish in last place since we already knew it was not only undemocratic but also incompetent.
