IAM Mech. & related thread

Dues are tax deductable anyhow, so you get it back in the long run.

Uh.......OK.........Hate to even think about that logic  , but perhaps that is the way the Grand Lodge is thinking.....always thinking about the little guy!!!! My RE taxes are also deductable, but I don't know about you but I really dislike them when they go up!!!

Wrong. The amount paid is used to reduce your taxable income so therefore you only get a very small percentage of it back.

It will be voted at the Grand Lodge Convention in Sept. By delegates not by membership.

The Grand Lodge convention is in July not Sept. The District convention is in Sept, for District 141 anyway. But I know the Grand Lodge is in July though.

Since a loaf of bread costs the same for the denizens of the grand lodge as it does for the rank and file, and since they make about four times as much as the rank and file, I think a dues REDUCTION would be in order.

Good luck with that one.......

I did see that in the newsletters one of the guys had. Looks like they are trying to make it an across the board 2% of your gross not counting OT. Take the average mechanic, and that doubles his dues!!! Not many happy campers and many looking on becoming dues objectors!!! Now before we hear "u cannot vote".......well just my opinon I really doubt my vote counts on anything really important anyway!!!!

With the loss of the profit sharing and now a 2% across the board increase in union dues, it looks like the yes voters bent over for a 2% raise and a extra weeks vacation.
Since the raise won't even pay for the vacation, it would appear that management with the help of the IAM talked the majority into taking another pay cut.
The only thing that sounds worse than this is that some of the yes voters think that since union dues are tax deductible were all winners.

and we also gave up a total of 5% 401k match for enrollment in the IAM pension. My personal favorite! I do hope to enjoy my extra week vacation come 2012?

well i still think it is wrong for them to ask to raise union dues when there are alot of people who have not paid any union dues since they have been hired and that is nearly 2 years now. i saw a letter they had in philly saying that these people were aloud to vote on the contract and that the IAM was aware of this. I saw other letters saying they are trying to get the IAM to answer these aligations and they seem to be stalling. it appears that maybe the IAM has a little secret itself!

An excellent post and very true words.

Thank you for putting into words the thoughts of many. Too bad those people have now become the silent minority.

Sadly, the loudest voices heard now on the shop floor are the "disgruntled Yes voters".

Good one 'Real Tired'! All you hear anymore are the "disgruntled Yes voters" STILL trying to justify the vote.

On another subject, I'll vote for a dues increase if it includes getting rid of ALL union officials expense accounts. Since claiming it on your taxes is so great, they can pay their own way and claim it on taxes, too.

Sounds like nothing has changed in the 2 months since i left.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE DUES

Operational Employee Integration (OEI) occurs when a combined seniority list is published. A list is out but I am not sure if stock clerks are on it. I'll check tonight. This could mean the mechanic no reduction in force clause is over along with a few other clauses kicking in. Anyone got any info?
