January will be a very bad month at American

<_< More "BAD" news out of MCI! aa is negotiating to do twenty more 767's for Air Canada! 😛 We're working on Air Canada's aircraft, while they're working on Delta's! Is there somethng wrong with this picture? 😉

there is an article in the Houston Business Journal about the Hobby decision today...

That is really interesting news.

What is most interesting is that AA's Mechanic Labor cost seem to be so low, that Air Canada can send their own work to AA and at the same time contract in Delta's work.

That may not be "something wrong with the picture" you paint, but it surely does make one wonder how Air Canada does such a thing at a profit.

Exchange rates? AC is getting paid in $US for the DL work, and pay the workers in $Canadian, which has traditionally given them a 15-20% cost advantage.

Then again, in some perverse way, had AA gone after the DL work directly, there would be people here who would have considered that scabbing since the DL mechanics were put out on the street. Instead, we have union people saying it's OK for a union shop like AC to outsource work to another union shop like AA...

Boggle...

Delta is non-union and have been leaching off the backs of unionists for years, I doubt anyone would call it scabbing.

Now the AC to AA work is strange because of the 15- 20% premium due to the stronger dollar. That part doesn't make sense especially being the same fleet type.

Agree, unless it's a matter that AC bid on more work than they could handle, and since they're contractually obligated to do DL's aircraft, they have to turn to AA to make up the difference.

I believe scabbing is working on airplanes owned by an airline that is struck.

In it's pure sense, absolutely, but I also wouldn't put it past a few of the die-hard's around here to be dead set against taking DL AMT's work away from them. I've heard folks called scabs for far less over in the NWA forum...

OK. It's agreed that January will be really bad month.

Anybody know when we are going to have a good month? Is a good month a month when nothing bad happens, or is a good month when something good happens?

<_< Correction! Did I say twenty 767's? I meant twenty four! More "Bad" news out of MCI! It seems aa is working a deal to bring in 757 work to MCI! First aircraft to show up arround the first of the month! Alcoa Aluminum Co. owns a "STC" to convert 757s to Cargo aircraft! Door and all! We'll be doing the convertion along with a "C" check! This will be the "Big" one people! This is the one that will bring people back off the street! One aircraft to start, and as many as four at a time later on in the operation! Oh Lord aafsc!!! More redheaded step-children to deal with!!! 😛 😛 😛 And Boeing is still nosing arround for us to posibly do KC 135 work as a sub contractor for them! Yea! Things are really looking "BAD"!!!!

Do you and the other ex-TWAers still think there is an AA/TWU conspiracy to get rid of you all? 😀 I have always believed that they would keep your base open to do contract work and some AA planes. In addition to the work you listed above, they are also pursuing some government work (KC-135s I believe). It takes time to negotiate these kinds of deals but if they all come to fruition, many if not all could possibly be recalled. It is a good thing when people can get recalled and I have no problem with the "redheaded step children' as long as they are in their base or have the proper seniority anywhere else. 😛

<_< aa! Let's cut the crap!!! The Only reason MCI is still open is that we are making aa "Money"!!! We have jumped through every hoop they've thrown at us! Climed over every opstical they've thrown at us, and "ALWAYS! ALWAYS!" come out on top of it!!! What do they call it! Oh yea! We have a "work ethic" here they like!!! That sir is what has kept us open!!! It sure as hell hasn't been because of the help we recieved from our fellow "Brother" TWU members!!! 😉

And TUL doesn't make money for AA? What about AFW? Or what about when some of the line stations do contract work? AA's sole reason for existing is to make money. If AA is happy with MCI's performance and they feel they can make a profit on third party work, great, a mutually beneficial arrangement. And what is it you expect your "fellow TWU brothers" to do? Fly to MCI and set themselves on fire in front of the MCI hangar? MCI is not the only location in AA that suffered.

<_< I didn't say that! As with MCI, if TUL, and AFW, weren't economically up to aa expectations, I'm sure aa would have outsourced their work years ago! And I feel they still can! You asked if I felt aa had some sort of plan to close MCI? I feel they had every intention to! But as with all things, times and plans change! As for my fellow TWU Brothers! Tell them to stay home! I don't want them playing in my back yard!!!! 😛
