Let me explain this one more time, it was NOT A NEGOTIATED CBA, it was a FINAL OFFER from US Airways to Fleet. The CWA gave up reservations to keep the airport locations, guess you forgot about that too? The CWA reached an agreement, the IAM did not.
The Company and the Courts did that to you, sorry if you don't like the truth, but that is what happened.
The 60 day was put in by the company, not the IAM, so go Ask Hemenway and Glass why they put that in there.
In round one you got a pension, something you lost in 1992, guess you forgot about that?
Guess you forgot about PDOs, no pension, no sick time, no vacation time, a grievance procedure and many other things you got back when the PPG was eliminated and you got a CBA.
700, in some ways you're right. In bankruptcy there is nothing a union can do so why have one. Even IAM Boss Canale gave mention to the phrase "We had a gun to our head and a knife to our back." The simple truth of the matter is that a company will do whatever it needs to do and unions have to stand on the sidelines and just take it.
As for the quality of a fleet service job pre-iam days, we had much more benefits and a much better retirement than what they have now. Actually here is the breakdown:
Pre IAM 1992 Post IAM 2007
wages: $17.88 $15.60 or $17
stations: 85 10 or 12 I think
employees: 6,500 flirting from 4,000 or so
Retirement: up to 10% up to only 5%
Retirement base: included OT Doesn't include squat
Retirement portability: Yes No, little access
Vacation: 6 weeks 4 or 5 I think
Sick time: Paid Unpaid sick time
60 day rule: No yes
Health premiums: very low Higher but less benefit
Shift swaps: unlimited capped and strict
Dues paying: No, free Stuck with paying up to $50/mo
I could go on. I mean the IAM didn't even get us any of the contracted work back under and only added language that says 'where the company decides....'.
I realize the painful truth of the situation is that you are clueless about this stuff because you only heard bits and pieces from TG and other maintenance IAM Bosses who don't know squat but know how to BS.
At any rate, me and wings aren't the only ones who realize the 'piss clam' IAM is pathetic. Just pointing to the scoreboard 700, that's all. It shows 1985 non union wages in 2007. Sorry.
