Right dell.
When the economic bubble bursts(and it will), and tariffs are still in place, we'll all be up 'chits creek', EXCEPT for the Big,Big $$$$ boys who the M O R O N gave the Huge tax break to !!
He was so kind with those tax breaks....I profited dearly from them too.

It pays to be married and not itemize then. I'm single and itemize, and my deductions were about $1,000 over the standard deduction. But they took away my personal exemption of $4,050. So while my tax rate was indeed lower, it was against a taxable income that was higher. Bottom line, I saw a reduction of about $800. Got paid 26 times last year. So I got to see a $30 increase in my paycheck. Better than nothing, but I was hoping for a remodeled kitchen like they were promising.

Yes...they did get a tax cut. But from the fiscal times article

But others say the small size of the tax cut for many workers – the middle fifth of earners received about $20 a week on average –

So yes...everybody got a tax cut. The tippy top of the upper income got a new Mercedes or Bentley or Lexus, but the rest of us got $20 a week. And because of Republican inaction, their health insurance costs continued to rise, so that may have been eaten up by that that the net to them may have been zero.

I have also said that a LOT of Trump voters would view "tax cut" as "bigger refund". But withholding was changed. So when the end of the year rolled around, the refund was significantly less. I recall that my check went up a lot more than I thought. I went to the IRS site in March and ran the calculation. Good thing...it showed that I would have OWED about $1,000 at year end. So yeah...most of us got a tax cut. But few of us could remodel a kitchen, buy a new car, or take a vacation on what we got.

So what did it cost you and the gov't for your 'cash float'? I always thought the refund was a stupid idea. You loan the gov't interest free monies (which they earn interest on) then you get all giddy with glee when they let you have your money back (whee) the gov't has to do all this at an addition cost to who? You.

That's right. 60 times they try a repeal when they know they won't get one...and when their leader THOUGHT that they had been working on a "really great" plan that would "cover everybody" and "cost so much less", since they had 8 years to come up with one, it turned out they had done nothing...and the plan they DID come up with, even Trump called "too mean". But this non politician came on board with the party and blamed McCain for taking an action that HELPED you all in the long run.

First...I didn't say me. I said "Trump supporters". They changed withholding. I tweaked my dependents on my W4 form so that my refund was reduced to almost nothing. It usually ended up being enough to cover my state tax shortage. My first paycheck under the tax cut was $80 higher than normal. I wasn't aware that they also implemented a change to withholding rules. I ran the calculator and found that if I did not change my W4, I would have ended up paying an additional $1,000 at the end of the year.

My point is that when a lot of Trump supporting Republicans heard "tax cut", the first thought that went thru their mind was that their $1,000 refund was going to be $2,000 or more. Imagine their surprise when they found that it was $200 OR that they had to write a check. For folks like that, you can talk until you are blue in the face about how they got an extra $50 in their paychecks every payday...they aren't going to understand.

IT's the same people who, when getting an average 3% pay raise every year since 2009 that didn't notice that their raise after the corporate tax cut that was going to be passed down to employees via "higher wages" was still only 3%.

You overlook the GOP proposals when we had to wait to see what was in it......how did their something like 123 proposals work out then?

You can wax poetically about your kitchen remodel, but my tax liability went down, and I get to keep more of my take-home pay.

That's all that matters to most people. Not how big a refund they get. Only idiots loan the government money for free.

However, the anti Trumpers pounced on the fact that some would have to pay even though they were unaware they had been taking home more.....solely focused on their 'float' going away.

As I said....you can talk until you are blue in the face, but a lot of Trump voters view "tax cut" as "bigger refund". And you are correct.... a lot of Trump votes are idiots. I acknowledge that I got a tax cut....I got about an extra $30 per paycheck. IT was SOLD to us as getting a kitchen remodel, a new car, or a nice vacation.

One more time - you and I know that if you get more in your paycheck, you'll get a smaller refund. But a lot of people DON'T. PLUS...if they did what I did - I am single with no dependents, but I filed as single and 3 dependents to maximize what I got in my check. When I got my first check after the tax cut, the changes they made in withholding meant they weren't withholding enough. I want as much as I can, but I don't want to write a check at the end of the year either. Had I not adjusted my withholding, I would have owed about $1,000 in April.

And some Republican leadership admitted that they needed to do a better job at explaining this. On another message board, a YUGE Trump supporter commented on his paycheck being bigger. Then ended his post with this "A bigger paycheck and a bigger refund...THANK YOU Donald Trump". I haven't seen him post since April. I wonder if he's still thinking that.
