If a car is built in England (Bentley or Rolls) and shipped to the US, odds are that the shipping costs went to a British company. It was unloaded by a union dockworker, then sent to the Bentley dealer. Because there aren't a lot of Bentley's on the road, the number of salesmen needed to sell them is rather small. And yes...there are Bentley mechanics. But again, with so few on the roads, there aren't a lot.
Delivered to the dealership by truck, maintained by American mechanics, fueled by American gas stations, paying taxes to the DoT.
The parts used to repair the car are stored in an American warehouse.
The car is insured by an American company.
You are trying to focus only on what supports your agenda instead of the reality of the economic flow that overpriced luxury car creates.
So I ask again.... how many American families did that Bentley feed?
But tell me again....while we are paying higher prices for goods made in China, how many American jobs have the tariffs created? Is it enough to offset the subsidies to farmers who took a hit because of the tariffs?
You are wanting me to provide you a short term answer to a long term goal. I can't do that but what I can do is post a current example of a simple product made in the United States and China (see the example of a screwdriver below) and do a price comparison using specific parameters (type and size) and comparable features (cushion grip). As you can see the screwdriver made in China is actually 2 cents higher. Given the choice between the made in China screwdriver or the slightly cheaper made in America screwdriver which one would
YOU buy?
Adding tariffs to Chinese goods will increase the cost of goods and allow American companies to offer goods at a competitive price point (which is exactly what tariffs are supposed to do).

Craftsman is building a tool manufacturing plant here in the United States, Fort Worth, Texas according to this article dated May 15th, 2019.

"They also say that production costs will be “in line” with the tools currently being made in China."
Is that statement due to tariffs on Chinese goods?
The boom in American manufacturing can't be denied.

In my opinion the tariffs appear to be working but it will take time to see how it all plays out.
