One more time - you and I know that if you get more in your paycheck, you'll get a smaller refund. But a lot of people DON'T. PLUS...if they did what I did - I am single with no dependents, but I filed as single and 3 dependents to maximize what I got in my check. When I got my first check after the tax cut, the changes they made in withholding meant they weren't withholding enough. I want as much as I can, but I don't want to write a check at the end of the year either. Had I not adjusted my withholding, I would have owed about $1,000 in April.

And some Republican leadership admitted that they needed to do a better job at explaining this. On another message board, a YUGE Trump supporter commented on his paycheck being bigger. Then ended his post with this "A bigger paycheck and a bigger refund...THANK YOU Donald Trump". I haven't seen him post since April. I wonder if he's still thinking that.

As I said....you can talk until you are blue in the face, but a lot of Trump voters view "tax cut" as "bigger refund". And you are correct.... a lot of Trump votes are idiots. I acknowledge that I got a tax cut....I got about an extra $30 per paycheck. IT was SOLD to us as getting a kitchen remodel, a new car, or a nice vacation.

And a whole boatload of 'libtards', if you will excuse my French, also were under the same assumption. MSM exploited this ignorance until the populace was brought up to speed....you know, to unfairly diss Trump.

I thought I pointed out in another post. The poster who was crowing that his paycheck was bigger AND that he would get a bigger refund was thanking Trump before the MSM ever had the chance to tell him that his refund would be smaller. One more time....a LOT of Trump supporters AND a lot of Trump haters view tax cuts as "bigger refund".

Then there are the truckers, you know....the guys that Trump admires for making America so great. They lost the ability to deduct their "per diem", which resulted in a much higher taxable income....and they paid MORE. So you got your tax cut off the back of guy driving a semi across this country.

Nothing is free you know. Like when Reagan cut taxes...in return, you couldn't deduct interest on car loans and credit cards anymore. You know...stuff the average middle class pays, but the upper class doesn't. So they got a tax cut, but their taxable income went up a lot more. Just like what happened to me. I'm single and I itemize. My deductions were a little over $13,000. They raised the standard deduction to $12,000 for single filers. but they took away the $4,000 personal exemption. So my taxable income went up.

The Trump plan is very close to the Kansas Experiment, which damn near killed my state. They stopped short of what we did in Kansas (although they wanted to "one better" Kansas)....Kansas only allowed a taxpayer to deduct HALF their mortgage interest and HALF their property taxes paid. Trumps plan wanted to eliminated both.. after all, they were raising the standard deduction. So they just screwed over the people in "high tax" states that usually vote for the Democrat anyways.

So yeah...everybody got a tax cut...but it came at a cost to somebody else. Watch out for the next round of cuts...it could come from you. But...according the the Laugher theory, tax cuts increrease revenues. I don't understand why they don't just cut them to zero....we might have to build a second treasury building to hold all that money that will gush in.

My problem with FMLA is that it's another law where the intent was good, but it morphed into what I call the "Three Day Workweek" law. And people get a note from a doctor and take two or three days off per week because of a hangnail. I did watch someone abuse it.

The intent of the law was to give mom's more time with a newborn, or to tend to a loved one dying of a terminal disease. And that's the issue with any legislation. It ends up morphing into a monster because of all the "special situations".

The intent of tariffs is, and always has been, to protect the domestic means of production.

Whenever you go to Walmart and 90% of their goods say "Made in China", that's a problem.

Couple that with the fact that much of what they send over here is of questionable quality, remember the sheet rock, pet food, and baby formula incidents?

Pete...China isn't stupid. if you were running a business and one of your suppliers sourced their product from China, and would now face a 25% tariff - China is going to pass it on to your supplier. Does your supplier eat that cost, or do they pass it on to you? Do you eat that cost, or do you pass it on to your customer? Oh...the tariff gets paid. But by whom?

Rather than tariff and Trump...let's imagine the same scenario using the words "democrat" and "tax". If a democrat implemented a 25% business tax, would you grumble, pay it and charge the same price for your product or service, or would you pass it on to the consumer?
