Freedom...
Your argument is so flawed it is ridiculous… according to your convoluted logic… if Illegal Immigrants could somehow “magically acquire” Airport Credentials... the Collective Bargaining Agreement would be negated, and the pay scales would go down under the status quo!
Dude… The reality is this… the GOP wants to eliminate the RLA, and make EVERY state in the Union a right to work state! If they get their way, and succeed in this endeavor … your assumption may then prove plausible… because then... and ONLY then, would we have no bargaining unit to prevent it!
Fortunately, for Fleet Service, this is not possible due to legal protections offered by the right to Union representation under the very Railway Labor Act, which the GOP wants to amend and/or abolish!
It must be lonely out in space…
Unions have been standing up for what is right for the workers in this country for decades. Unfortunately, for decades union membership has declined along with the middle class in this country. Do you think this parallel is coincidental? Labor unions have lost a lot of leverage in the political arena as a result of this decline. This is exactly where Corporate America wants the labor unions. Corporate America wants illegals in this country who are willing to work for peanuts. When the work can be done in this country Corporate America will and has shipped the manufacturing overseas for lower wages and higher profts. Has Mitt ever engaged in this activity at Baine Capital? What makes you think his agenda will change if elected to the White House? Corporate America loves the global economy. Wheather it's shipping jobs overseas or giving jobs to illegal immigrants in this country. Both have a positive effect on their bottom line at the expense of the American worker. The question is... as a brown baggin, middle class, union represented worker, which party and candidates are supported in this election by Corporate America and which party historically, has supported labor. You are Labor Brother! My future best interests are dependant on a functioning country .......did you know ogarc that the low end estimate for the illegal immigrant population is 11 million ...Are you aware of the costs assoicated with illegal immigration ? year after year we bring in more and more cheap labor ... Why is this ? why when so many of our people are unemployed do we keep slacking off when it is clearly time for action , time to shrink the labor pool ...
There is no greater threat than unabated illegal immigration to the blue collar worker in the US .... and the ONLY reason we baggage handlers haven't felt the horrific sting of being undercut by this cutthroat cheap labor force is because they don't have the documentation to work out on the ramp , but you can bet your (whatever you want to bet ) that if they COULD find a way to work out here , there's no way we'd be able to mantain our levels of pay and compensation ..
"IMO... niether party will make any true or meaningful progress on this issue in the future."
while i'm not sure if there will be progress on the issue , and of course by progress i mean the removal of illegal immigrants from our country , i sure as heck am not going to vote for the party that gives away my country like it's a free buffet ....
it's too bad , i thought unions were suppose to stand up for what was right , to stand up for the workers ... but our unions in this country have completely bowed down to any issues that might require even the least bit of backbone ..
In these United States of America, I ask again what is a decent paying job? How much is decent pay?but that in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM means it's OK to allow illegal immigrants the right to work in our country when our own people can't find decent paying jobs ..
Lot's of things have a bearing on our future, that doesnt' mean they need to be discussed here. You guys are NOT debating politics and US, you're debating politics and labor. Take it to some political board.
Brothers and Sisters,
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Brother William (Bill) Henefeld. Brother Henefeld was a true union activist and a dear friend of mine and the recently deceased Mickey Hughes. His union involvement and support of organized labor spanned three decades with US Airways. He will be truly and forever missed. I ask that you keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers. God grant you eternal rest and peace Bill.

Change of topic. Has anyone heard what the fate of the subsidary American Eagle will be as a result of American emerging as a stand alone carrier? Additionally, what the fate of American Eagle will be in the event of a potential merger/ acquisition? This issue is clouded in uncertainty and not given much coverage or consideration regarding a potential merger.

IMO... if Eagle remains a subsidiary of AA going into a merger they will be a vendor, already on the property, in countless outline stations. With this being said, countless existing US Fleet and Customer Service jobs could be lost to Eagle in a seamless merger. When the company speaks of "synergies" gained by a merger those "synergies" are profits created by a merger. Synergies too often are realized by reductions in force and job loss to existing union represented employees. Eagle remains the "wolf at the door" to that realization for countless US represented employees in Fleet and Customer Service at US. Buckle your seat belts folks!Eagle filed BK at the same time as AA. Eagle has had a "For Sale" sign hanging around its neck for a few years now and no takers. There have been large cut backs already, and I see this only as a Zombie company with little hope of being alive much longer, at least, as part of AA. Frankly, it is just easier and cheaper to hire fee for service carriers, and whip saw one company against another to get the best deal.
