On time performance with no carry on bags

small carryons are not the issue...it's the cheep wallmart rolling bags that don't fit in the overhead long ways...or the overstuffed bags with crap that will never get used on a trip small hand totes breafcase etc laptops should be with a person at all times as well as a shave kit...the feds need to pull there head's out of the sand...a busseness person knows how to travel and pack for the plane...it's the one a year low fair vacation type that need's to check all ther crap and IMO pay a fee for all the junk they bring and don't use...and girls that wear no clothes need to bring a jacket or have the airlines seel blankets at the gate...

Exactly....and by checking all bags, we will be hurting the high yielding business passenger. Not cool. I know where my paycheck comes from.... 🙂
Actually, ClueByFour's statement was worded very clearly, you just disagree with it (an in comparison, the original post was very poorly worded ..but that's not the point.
I believe there is a happy medium. It is obvious that fewer carry-ons will speed up the boarding process and reduce delays. However, if we don't allow any carry-ons, then that is likely to reduce travel. More and more business will look to companies like Flexjet.
People should be allowed to have small carry-ons. Business travelers use their laptops to remain productive; leisure travelers would get bored (and kids would get restless) without something to do.
There needs to be consistency in how each airline enforces their own rules. And in my experience, the ones that have the largest carry-ons are non-revs. Granted, the nature of non-revving makes it difficult to check your bags--but if we carry-on, we should be expected to follow the same rules as everyone else.

As already noted, elites, who do indeed fly more and most usually generate more revenues are also more savvy fliers. We pack efficiently and we want the convenience of easy on / easy off flying without the baggage claim headaches ( especially at PHL ). We pack light and we know how to travel. It's non sequetor to suggest that carry on pax are the problem.
What is the problem are those infrequent fliers who show up at the gate with tons of stuff and all sorts of bags and folks with their kiddies in tow with all sorts of kiddie carry on cases. THIS does indeed slow up boarding both because they are overloaded, and it sucks up overhead space for those folks who are more efficiently packed. I especially like the clowns who deposit their bag up front in the overhead and take their seat in row 25.
What's more, the GA rarely if ever say or do anything about it leaving the FAs to stand silently by. I have observed lately that US was being more insistent upon checking excess carry ons and this was a very welcome move.
In an odd way, the new carry on guidlines will indeed help to smooth out the boarding process if the GAs and Fas enforce the limits.

Sweetie, dahling.....let me tell you how many products this US1 needs. I want my shaving cream, my shampoo, my deodorant, my contact lens saline solution, my undereye gel to reduce puffiness and my friggin toothpaste!! And I almost forgot, my cologne.
My "DAY" trips often involve 3 cities in 1 week. How much $$$ do you think I'm going to waste and time it takes to purchase this stuff at every city I have to work in??
I also don't have time to waste waiting and hoping my luggage has arrived in every city I have to be in. I have horror stories about other passengers "stealing" my luggage because it looked like theirs too often.
And let's be realistic about the "EUROPEAN" traveler shall we. In an hour you can be in most every major city in Europe by air. You can't say that about air travel in the US. And they also pack for more than 1 weeks vacation. I have friends in Germany who spend more time on vacation I swear than actually working like I do.
I've been traveling weekly for 9 years. I've learned to downsize considerably. I'm currently using a 19" rollerboard and even got a smaller computer briefcase. I know exactly how to pack for a 1 week trip with minimal cloths to get me through that week. The preferreds know how to fly. It's everyone else out there that doesn't live on a friggin plane every week that doesn't understand you don't need the kitchen sink.
Now you want to discuss when I see F/A's rolling their luggage, a small tote and that HARROD'S bag? I think that's 3 items, not 2. And don't even think about telling me that you have to carry your emergency manuals. I used to date an F/A. I know all about you having to carry those around.
But I guess F/A's shouldn't have to adhere to the same carryon restrictions as us regular folk. 😉

HUH?! Honey I was NEVER a F/A. I said I dated one. I just happen to live on planes for work all the time. I guess you missed it that I'm a US1 in my original posting. Infact I assure you that I'm on planes more than you in any given year. My EX and I counted up the # of flights I was on over a 1 year period. Far surpassed even most F/A's because I'm not limited on the amount of hours I have to fly in a month. Unfortunately.

Let Aladdin have to check her bag, even just at the end of a trip and wait the hour or more for it to come down the belt. Or worse, to not get it at all. We'll see how quickly her and other F/A's understand why we pack light and carry everything on. I've arrived at customer sites in travel clothes (usually jeans) too many times, which started me years ago carrying on.
Add the earlier arrival times needed at the airport, plus an extra hour or 2 at the end of a trip waiting for luggage, and all of a sudden driving to some of my customers is getting to be about the same amount of time as flying. You can bet if this continues for too long, more people will be taking to the roads and less people on the airplanes. Guess that'll leave more seats for non revs.

People Will always travel by Air...ALWAYS! If driving is a better option I encourage you to do so...I know I would. BTW I can't remember the last time I Non-Revd. All jobs have their perks! We get to carry our bags on.
