PHL-YVR!

Is the PHL-YVR flight scheduled to connect to AC flights form YVR to Asia?
I would say NO. The flights get in at 9pm and departs 10pm, OK its about 10 minutes earlier. Asian flights leave in the early PM and arrive in the AM. Unless US is using that 12 hour layover, but I don't see them utilizing it. More like the way PDX started out. Why does US has to start with such crappy times? Why not RON the plane overnight in YVR, or fly it down to LAS and back. Make PHL a 8-9a departure to connect to Europe. The red eye is good for the carribean, but what about the returns? and vice versa for europe flights. Do they think that the people are going to take a carribean vacation and return from Europe? I never got that drunk to ake that ever happen.

YVR is a beautiful city and lots of 222. Whistler/Blaclkcomb is close.

Hopefully this is all year!
The overnite is great! Beautiful city. The hotel us West crews stay in is also very nice. Hope you Easties enjoy the layover. I wish we would start PHX-Montreal soon.

Great overnight!! West crews stay in Richmond, BC (near the airport). The restaurant/ pub downstairs (The Foggy Dew) is pretty good. 2.5 mile walk (hotel van may also take you depending on schedule) gets you to The Flying Beaver. It's actually a sea plane port (aircraft land on the river), restaurant and micro brewery.

Also, don't forget that YVR is the host to the 2008 Winter Olympics. Some of the events will be right there in Richmond (speed skating?).

A long awaited market out of PHL! Great move and wonderful city. Would move there in a heartbeat!

I think you've been flying way too much, and you need a longer layover.
Richmond is okay, but you need to get into the city. Try a cab to the west end, English Bay and Stanley Park.
There the seaplanes land in the harbor. The Olympics by the way, are in 2010.

If you have a longer layover, don't forget to try North Vancouver and Grouse Mountain. Great views, skiing, snowshoeing.
Enjoy it.

it looks like the flt will launch june 3rd and run seasonal through sept 2cnd . now if they only would add phl-anc that would be sweet.

US Airways (NYSE:LCC) customers on either side of North America will have another non-stop transcontinental option this summer when US Airways begins new seasonal service between its international gateway at Philadelphia International Airport and Vancouver, British Columbia. Flights are scheduled to begin June 3 and run through Sept. 2, utilizing Airbus A319 aircraft in a 124-seat configuration. This new flight complements US Airways' existing service to Vancouver from its Las Vegas (one daily roundtrip) and Phoenix (two daily roundtrips) hubs.

US Airways' Senior Vice President, Schedule Planning and Alliances Andrew Nocella, said, "We're committed to growing both domestic and international service from our Philadelphia hub and new seasonal Vancouver service is a testament to that end. Vancouver customers will have great connecting opportunities within the U.S. and beyond, where Philadelphia customers will have another non-stop option to the North American west coast."

"We are pleased to be able to offer our customers another non-stop transcontinental option this summer. The connection between Philadelphia and Vancouver further underscores our commitment to growing our Gateway and providing more choice to our traveling public," says Larry Berg, president and CEO of Vancouver Airport Authority.

"Seasonal" aye....

CO does the same thing from EWR.....not sure I understand the "seasonal" thing since Whistler is SOOO amazing and a great ski destination.

That being said, it is a good start and high 5's to US for starting it. Now make it a full year gig and add some frequencies.

Anyone who's never been to BC....absolutely one of the most gorgeous parts of North America.

Agree with what's been said about the Foggy Dew and ANC.

For connections onward from YVR, the PHL-YVR will still make some connections, including the AC33 Sydney flight.

Air Canada AC8354 Penticton 22:05 C38
Air Canada AC8211 Prince George 22:30 B16
Air Canada AC8328 Calgary 22:35 C32
Air Canada AC8269 Nanaimo 22:45 C38
Air Canada AC8290 Edmonton 22:55 B11
Air Canada AC8089 Victoria 23:45 C38
Air Canada AC33 Sydney 23:55 C51

AC also has quite a few Asian destinations out of YVR, and also ANC(as well as other North American cities)- even if it does mean, spending a night in YVR, I think it's a decent connection and option in contrast to US' late night arrivals into ANC.

From a cruise passenger perspective (and an airline agent) I wouldnt arrive in YVR at noon for a 4 or 5 pm sailing same day. Too much stress as a passenger if something goes wrong and not enough planning for a problem from an agent perspective having to get someone from the East coast to YVR. However, having worked at a cruise port for many years, I can say that there would be a lot of people who would do this (and then b*tch about things when they go wrong.)
Tad, as someone who has been on 20+ cruises since 1980, let me say that the cruise passenger does not have a lot of say in the airline booking unless they make their own arrangements at their own expense--not a good idea because the cruise line gets bulk rates from the airlines. The cruise lines choose to bring people in the morning of the cruise so that they do not have to deal with them except at the airport and again at the cruise terminal.

The passenger has the option to fly in 1 or more days in advance (the cruise lines offer "packages" for pre-/post-cruise stays), but it is at the cruise passenger's additional expense. I can tell you that these packages are no bargain.

Not only does the currently proposed schedule require an overnight stay in YVR on arrival for cruise passengers--all cruises out of YVR generally depart in the 1pm-4pm timeframe, but the return flight requires a 10-12 hour sit at the airport for returning cruise passengers. The cruise line will have them off the ship by 10am. Unless they have booked a post-cruise stay in YVR, the cruise line will bus them directly to the airport. The most disgruntled airport sit I ever had was only 5 hours at MIA, and at the time I had an Eastern Ionosphere club membership; so, we didn't have to sit out in the concourse. The airline cancelled the flight we were supposed to be on, and re-booked us on a later flight while we were on the cruise. We didn't know about the delay until we got to the airport from the ship that morning.

As far as the stress of arriving same day, the cruises out of YVR almost ALL make their first port call at Victoria, B.C. If you missed the sailing, the cruise line would just put you on the ferry or a flight to Victoria. You might even get there before the ship does.

That schedule does not really work for ski season either. It's a 2+ hour bus ride from the airport to Whistler-Blackcomb. I don't think any of the bus companies run that late to W-B.

Ooooh, 1 connecting international/Asia flight - what a way for US to take advantage of code-sharing with * alliance partner AC. I know that UA has many flights to Asia for US to code-share, but if you're going to offer a PHL-YVR flight I would have thought that it may be better scheduled. What do I know, maybe the money is in the PHL-YVR-YXS traffic?

Not happening in 2008, going to have to wait till 2010. Plus US' seasonal traffic won't apply then.
