I didn't vote because there wasn't a "Maybe".

In my opinion, we aren't going to merge with anyone. Our pilot labor issues are so toxic no one would even consider touching US with a ten foot pole.

We are a stand alone airline.

Buckle up darlings.

One of the MANY mistakes Parker and bros made with this whole mess was keeping the name.

I always felt we should had taken the America West name. These bozos in Arizona managed to take an already crappy airline and name and make it worse. Meanwhile the AW goes away with a "poor America West, they were so good" when it was THEIR management that screwed up things as they currently are. Had money been spent for another name, it wouldn't had mattered. We would just be the evil (fill in the blank) airline.

^Above is my vote as post of the day. And remember it's Travelpro72 that "they" laugh at as per diamondcutter. 😉

Heck, they should just call this place America East Airways, NOW!!
Or, better yet, Parker Air! 🙄

I think the name will stay ...... How about this one .... Republic takes Airtran and US Airways ...... I believe Charlotte would benefit. Airtran's Atlanta op's ends up like PIT.

Jetblue may get involved. That's how industry darling "Continental" was born, Gordon Bethune and bunch of struggling want-a-be's.

FL has next to nothing to offer to US aside from maybe a few intl routes not operated by US. If there are any mergers involving US and non legacies it would likely involve B6(lots of JFK routes to replace our LGA) and a growing South American presence. Spirit could be a probable merger partner with it's South American presence and business structure very similar to ours.

Given the issues facing US however I don't see any potential mergers down the road. Just a slow chopping of pieces until there's nothing left, starting with the pull down of LGA and LAS.

I'm starting to think B6 is a possibility. Jetblue's involvement with Lufthansa coupled with our pullback from the NY area makes me think. They have a completely compatible fleet and it would certainly consolidate and take out a pretty big east coast competitor. It was always said that ya needed int'l, int'l, int'l. Well domestic seems to be "where it's at" right now and possibly will be for a good while. I'm just speculating that in addition to all the connections and O&D in PHL it would stay coupled with the large Jetblue ops in JFK to feed STAR. No?

That is not correct. First off, Continental was founded in 1934. In 1982, Frank Lorenzo, then head of Texas Air Corp (at the time, parent company of TTA and Eastern), purchased Continental from Bob Six and company, and merged it with TTA (Trans-Texas Airlines, which we also called Try, Try Again  ). As in the AW-LCC merger, the name of the better known airline, Continental, was retained.

Gordon Bethune did not join CO until 1994. Bethune bio

So B6 and US get together; along with CO, *Alliance has the US pretty well covered.

AA surprises everyone and jumps in bed with UA and AA/UA stays in OneWorld (*A's USA coverage is handled by US/B6 and CO as discussed above).

What's the name of the combined B6/US?

As far as I'm concerned, any of the current merger scenarios is really scary for at least one partner in that merger. UAL is almost hopelessly debt-encumbered, and LCC would need to get it's labor house in order to be attractive to anyone (and, as has been pointed out elsewhere, Doug Parker is perfectly happy with the pilots and the f/as working under old contracts. Just as Arpey has no reason to rush to new TAs with any of AA's unions).

JetBlue USA? Just like ChevronTexaco was (and now, officially is) called Chevron by everyone except the former Texaco employees, the airline would be called JetBlue by everyone except the former LCC employees. Most people are too lazy to use long names--especially in this texting, Twitter age where a short word, like your, is shortened even more to ur.

Where does New York Air and Peoples Express fit in ..... were they merged with Eastern or Continental?

Oh I found it ..... "February 1, 1987 Became third largest U.S. airline with the consolidation of Frontier, People Express and New York Air."

Gordon is the one that took the mess and made it work ..... later

The US Airways name will stay Jetblue name will go only because Jetblue is not known in Europe and noone will fly it.
