Clueless in da house

I think US should have stayed HP. In a corporate business sense, what America West did by keeping it US Airways is Parker bought the franchise and it cost him in the long run.

If the merger is with United, it seems that now the United name should be maintained. Otherwise seek a more appropriate name such as Untied Airlines!

I'm starting to think B6 is a possibility. Jetblue's involvement with Lufthansa coupled with our pullback from the NY area makes me think. They have a completely compatible fleet and it would certainly consolidate and take out a pretty big east coast competitor. It was always said that ya needed int'l, int'l, int'l. Well domestic seems to be "where it's at" right now and possibly will be for a good while. I'm just speculating that in addition to all the connections and O&D in PHL it would stay coupled with the large Jetblue ops in JFK to feed STAR. No?

I doubt this scenario will ever happen. Watching it from it's origins, B6 seems to have been created to crush the US monopoly of dinky locations in the backwoods of Upstate NY. Then again I think you all are in cahoots with each other so nothing would surprise me!

Bottom line in layman's terms: Why would a successful B6 want to merge with US? Judging by what I read, this would probably result in an all-out labor battle, because B6 employees, last I heard, are non-union.

Absolutely, US Airways name and logo represent The United States, American Airlines represents America (internationally).. I have relatives overseas that dont recognize the Continental or Delta brand...may these names live forever.

Exactley why I like it. 🙂

What do you think?
What Do I think.....I think you guys(east/west) had better bury the hatchet and move on, If you don't think this airline can become history .....then think Eastern!

Agree 100000% Issues understood ya all need to get it together. That includes the company negotiating. Get real. 🙄

A few comments:

1. I named this merger "Titanic Airways" in 2005 when this abortion was born. It still fits

2. Keep the flag? YGTBSM...the white flag of surrender is the worst corporate logo ever.

3. People, wake up! UAL and CAL will merge. They are building a joint IT platform, they are giving priority on jumpseats, sharing ground equipment...neither airline is coming to save US!

4. No other mergers outside of Republic (lets take their name for US, Frontier and midwest) or maybe AirTran are even remotely possible

5. The likely scenario is a PSA of the west, a slow lingering death and liquidation, while the pilots still are arguing over the arrangement of the deck chairs on this Titanic death barge. This should of happened in 2005, when AAA couldn't make payroll.

IMO its going to be Republic. They have the cash. Frontier, (West), Midwest (Midwest), US West (Southwest), and US East (East) pretty much cover the country. The other option would be F9 goes after US for the West, but why would they do that? They are doing just fine and it would be easier to expand on there own than acquire the US baggage.

Another option is US forced into Chapter 7 by vendors, and Other Airlines aquiring assets (gate space is really the only unencombered asset anyone would want), thus avoiding the people issues of seniority, payscale, cultures etc.

So my guess is the name will be Republic or Frontier

Why kill what makes people like JetBlue by merging it with US?

It's going to take a long time to get to Chapter 7 given cash on hand versus rate of cash burn. Unless we stay in a recession for 4-5 years, or gas shoots back to $4 for the next 2-3 years without economic growth, then I can't imagine Chapter 7.

Not disagreeing CX4, but it would give JetBlue fast track access to 320's and 190's. If they wanted the rest of the Airbii, that's a bonus, else sell them off.

They are not growing now (B6)--why do they need "Fast track" access to anything when they still have open options and orders with the manufacturers?

Just an observation I noticed while listening to the Phx crew news with Scott Kirby that was recorded yesteday. As always, there was a question about mergers and the current status of any merger involving US Airways. Over the past 8-10 months, when this question has come up, the answer has always been that although we support consolidation, there are no talks going on with anyone right now.

Scott's reply yesterday was only that he cannot comment on any merger talks. Now this may be just my imagination, but I thought it was interesting that he did not specifically state that no talks were going on as has been the practic of late. He did say that the recent closure of crew bases is completely independent of any merger plans. He stated that he has heard rumors that this was tied to a potential merger but that it is completely false.

I noticed that too!

What's the name of the combined B6/US?

Not that I think the merger would happen, I'll offer jetUS (TM by me) It fits the "new" US idea of heritage as well as defines the airline as a casual US oriented airline.
