REVENUE CATCHING IDEAS

They could vacs pack the blanket & pillows, and it will take up less space.

They sell these types of 'kits' to emergency management agencies

Great idea on vacuum sealed blankets and pillows. They are easier to sell since they take less space and can be sold easier!

Come on US Airways marketing people, here's your chance! This is a great idea! Partner up with JC Penny, Brookstone, or some other company who can use their NAME on the packaging to subsidize the costs!!! You should easily be able to get a $15 - $20 quality unit for a $5 - $7 price point using a major retailer's name... Package it as a shipper unit that can easily be displayed at the gate area, using the same concept that Jet Blue does their headsets...

I want to come work for US Airways marketing department. There are so many missed opportunities.

They are on top of this, but it all takes some time for sealing the deal, procedures, etc,.

We could sell therapeutic oxygen again at $100 per bottle. American does, too.

For a fee, we could offer special meals again. Say for an additional $3 we can offer veg., kosher or diabetic meals on those flights we have the BOB meals.

They are on top of this, but it all takes some time for sealing the deal, procedures, etc,.

You know they have to schedule ALL those obligatory "business meetings" ala TEMPE STYLE (excessive bar tabs, visiting the "gentleman's clubs with Dougweiser and Boy Wonder, press release announcing the BIG NEW IDEA that was a bad one 20 years ago, and the following press release(s) and email(s) to employees clarifying and correcting what they REALLY meant to say the first time). Beside finding companies that we haven't screwed over that are located in cities we still offer mainline service (so to book SP First Class) is getting much harder. These are geographical challenged business areas that TEMPE has to work with ......you know the EAST COAST.

I can't remember if this was mentioned before but they should look into allowing the pax to pre-order their BOB. That way they'll know how many to load and they would have already collected the revenue for it. They could also add a few for the people that didn't order at the time they booked.

I think if we start selling pillows and blankets, activity kits, mugs, diapers, tampons, candy, or whatever it is that they will want us to sell they will put it in a cart like duty free where it will be locked and we will have to take inventory before sales and at the end of the flight. Trust me, that stuff will not be in OHBs. I like the idea of people purchasing BOB meals when they purchase their ticket, then include a few extras. That makes sense. Oh but wait, we can't do anything logical at US Airways so why would we do that? Oh, and if they offered certain drinks with a special mug/cup to go with it, trust me, people will buy the drink just so they can get the mug! They could have a fun sippy cup for children, then some really cool plastic mugs or cups (I don't know if they would allow glass) for beer, mixed drinks, or premium drinks. As for the plastic cups with Coca-Cola on it, I believe Delta has that. The other day, we received Delta cups that were small like our old ones and on one side it said Coca-Cola and the other side said Delta.

Here's an idea: We could sell Bingo cards and have the pax pay to play bingo! When I was a kid I traveled to Venezuela and the f/as on the Venezuelan airline passed out Bingo cards to pax who wanted to play Bingo and a f/a called out the numbers. It was so freakin hilarious I was laughing the whole time. A lot of people were playing too. I don't remember what they won though. The good news is, as cheesy as our airline is, I know we would never have to worry about conducting Bingo games. Whew!

HOW TO SAVE THE AIRLINES

Dump the male flight attendants.

No one wanted them in the first place.

Replace all the female flight attendants with good-looking strippers!
What the heck -- They don't even serve food anymore, so what's the loss?
The strippers would at least triple the alcohol sales and get a 'party
atmosphere' going in the cabin. And, of course, every businessman in
this country would start flying again, hoping to see naked women.
Because of the tips, female flight attendants wouldn't need a salary,
thus saving even more money. I suspect tips would be so good that we
could charge the women for working the plane and have them kick back
20% of the tips.

Muslims Terrorists would be afraid to get on the planes for fear of seeing naked women.
Hijackings would come to a screeching halt, and the airline industry would see record revenues.
This is definitely a win-win situation if we handle it right -- a golden opportunity to turn a liability into an asset.
Why didn't Bush think of this?
Why do I still have to do everything myself?

Sincerely,
Bill Clinton

Lack of efficiency is costing the airlines dearly. The overcrowded skies have created a scenario in which it costs the airlines more in delays, cancellations, idle time, vouchers, etc., than what the airlines can afford at these fuel levels.

The reality is that a large percentage of the flying public is made up of people who truly cannot afford to fly at fare levels which would allow the airlines to sustain themselves.

If there is less demand due to higher fares, less people will fly, the skies will be less crowded, and the remaining flights will operate more efficiently, thereby costing less money overall per mile. Unfortunately, reduced demand will most certainly lead to furloughs, layoffs, and more early retirements, but saving 80% of the jobs is better than losing 100% of them if an airline goes under.

At the same time, US must overhaul their IT infrastructure. The current platform is an absolute joke. There are so many things which customers and employees SHOULD be able to do on the website/reservation system, but cannot. The loss of revenue/productivity due to this joke of an IT platform is costing US a ton of money in soft dollars. Fix the problems, and it will cost the company less overall.

At least it's a cyclical business, and hopefully the situation will improve in time, as people get used to the idea of paying more for less.

I’m not allowed to make personal attacks or call any posters names. So, I won’t but if my thought bubble were to burst while I was typing it would probably say something like “You’re an idiot!â€￾ phew, I hope no one heard that.

Good points and though it is off topic, it says more of what can really save the airlines. You can't fix the airline industry by selling pillows.
Since deregulation, the airlines have had trouble and were constantly bailed out. I'm not sure with so many airlines it possible to make a buck. Southwest exception. The airlines just want to cut each others' throats. Maybe if the egos at the top could just say that Southwest is doing something right. Maybe we should move towards what they are doing. The airline industry needs consolidation and attrition. I don't think there are any other solutions, unless the government is going to bail each airline out every 4 years. Then we carry on as is.
