Seniority for non- revs lost?

First, I respectfully disagree that nonreving is something you earn over time. I think that it, like medical benefits, are given to all employees and all employees should have equal access to them. But, that's something that people on different sides will always disagree on.

Second, there's an easy solution to the FCFS check in for commuters: have someone check you in! The web check-in portion of Compass is separate from the ETC. When you sign onto the ETC< you can only make listings for yourself or people on your benefits. However, when you go to the web check-in portion, you can check in people on ANY non-rev PNR> A commuter without internet access could easily have any employee check them in for a flight from the web.

I did not say, or imply, that nonreving is earned over time. Everyone gets flight privliges from day one with the company. Your ability to board an aircraft ahead of another employee however, is earned over time. Also, while having someone else check you in would work. It is simply no feasible to spend your career having someone else check you in for a commuter flight.

How they decide is going to piss many off. While the folks who have not been around long enough to know what seniority is truly about feel FCFS is fair many don't agree. I think that FCFS certainly doesn't put the benefit on a level playing field either. Whatever will be will be. I certainly hope people don't take to the streets over a FREE benefit though. That is simply wrong.

I agree with you ..however, I think that many people will #### & moan about it ..especially if FCFS is chosen.

As a senority based system at its core, nonreving is an extention of this sytem. What I recall when first hired was that I wanted what those who had been here before me had. I did not want to wait. Now I feel that it is one of the few ways you can be rewarded for the time that you have invested in the company ( through both the ups and the downs ). To strech the analogy abit, why not pay everyone the same for the same job? There really are no perks to this job except senority these days.

This topic has been beating with a dead horse. Many East/West People want Seniority!!!! Many East/West People want FCFS.

I personally think it should be a give and take of both. You can combine a great Non-Rev program and tweak what we have in place. Now many people will be angry. However, what is fair and what will be right are two totally different things. As is what is going to happen. I personally think they are keeping the last (EAST/VS/WEST) deals out of the spotlight due to the aka: future mergers/acquisitions.

Two great programs Pros/Cons’

West:

Pros
All employees are created equal.
Everyone has a fair chance of getting a seat.
Used after Columbus (FA’s-Pilot’s) /Las Vegas (FA’s) base closure’s
Day one to Retirement everyone is on the same footing in your respective ranks.
No senior person can push you off a flight due to (I should have it, I put in my years, yada, yada, yada.)
A senior person can get days off a new hire is stuck with the US Airways scheduling and is hard to find personal time to go places.
Its hard for a new hire to compete with a 20 plus year employee when a 1 year or less needs to get back to work or can be fired.

Neutral:
A benefit of U.S. Airways employment not a right.
However, these people forget that they are a dying breed and times change.
Had it not been for the two companies combining than no one (America West Airlines/US Airways) employees would not be non-revving for long FCFS or Seniority based.
We travel for free.

Cons
Must have computer access.
Must check in 12 hrs before.
No internet access for most employees at the airport.
Hard for employees who work trips (FA’s/Pilots) who can’t check in.
No list for employees to see where they (themselves stand)
Can be manipulated if not controlled by US Airways.
Some feel a younger generation is all about (ME)
People feel that US Airways West employees won and the US Airways employees has been wiped off the map and that the feelings and accomplishments, and sacrifices have been lost or unappreciated by the America West employee group.
Should a new hire via 3 days on the job push a 20 plus employee off a flight?
FCFS = no internet = no check in = no rev experience.
Must Plan ahead.

East:

Pros
Promotes pride and accomplishment of years of service
Used after many base closures.
Why should the larger group of the “NEW†US Airways. Go to an unfamiliar system.
It’s worked since day one (that “I†came to US Airways, Why should I change?)
A smaller group of employees is easier to deal with new changes than a larger group.
Don’t break what is all ready fixed!
It’s about all we have left in the business.
Seniority either gets you on or it doesn't.
NO planning ahead.
Senior employees have taken pay cuts, and fly international trips. How can they list for FCFS when some flights are longer than 12 hours?

Neutral:
All employees know where they stand.
A benefit of U.S. Airways employment not a right for any employee
However, some polices and procedures stand the test of time and work quite well.
Had it not been for the two companies combining than no one (America West Airlines/US Airways) employees would not be non-revving for long FCFS or Seniority based.
We travel for free.

Cons
Seniority boarding can be messed with and not a 100% foul proof method.
High time retirees bumping a active employee off when a active employee might be trying to get to work when the retiree has many days off. (No harm/no foul)
30+ yr employee checking in for a flight 15min prior to dept and bumping those who have been there for an hour.
Senior employees feel entitled.
People feel that US Airways employees won and the America West employees have been wiped off the map including name and personal love for ones airlines/job/career. Feelings and accomplishments,
America West Policies and Procedures and sacrifices have been lost or unappreciated by the US Airways employee group. AWA P/P have worked time and time again. Why change them?

Everyone feels totally different. Personally I think it should be tweaked and create a new Non – Revving policies and procedures.
Everyone will piss and moan about this. Personally if it goes the US Airways/America West way one group will feel less valued and personal distaste for another group.

. However, NO matter we all do this job I personally believe for the joy of it. Seriously! Besides the pay if there is some these days. No matter how bit/how small.
I think what shall come and no matter what after 20 years or more. If US Airways/DELTA/Northwest/ or shall I say Schizophrenia Airlines.

We wll all forget about FCFS or Seniorty Boarding after 10/20 more years…

I think the cutest should board first. You'd all have to board behind me, though. 😛h34r:

PLAN AHEAD I for one if it goes FCFS not looking forward for 0300 AM WEB-CKINS and bugging/relying on a friend and giving my personal PIN to someone to check you in.

In this day of "always connected" broadband internet access, some computer whiz will write a program (probably in his/her spare 20 minutes) that will log onto the employee travel center at EXACTLY 12 hours before and list the employee automatically.

I can name the person who will likely do just that, as I already use much of his software to make my job as a crewmember easier, but this is a "no names" forum.

For a modest price, your computer will do all these listings for you at the appropriate time. Will it always function perfectly? No, but it will be very reliable, IMHO.

Thanks for the info were/how can you get these programs

My post is conjecture. The program to automatically list yourself does not yet exist, as far as I know. But I am confident that the niche will be filled, since the technology to do this already exists.

But there is software available right now for east USAirways crewmembers (probably won't work for west, yet) that makes bidding, CATCREW and Hub access much easier.

http://www.safisoft.com/

I have absolutely no idea if the expert programmers at this company will develop "automatic listing" software, or not. It will certainly be a revenue center for some enterprising company to do so, and this outfit already has a lengthy, satisfactory history of working with aircrews. I am very happy with those products and have been using them since that company's inception.

Disclaimer - Other than being a customer, I have no connection with Safisoft, nor do I know any of its employees personally.

I posted earlier on this thread but just got a chance to read the later posts. Let me add to some of those thoughts. A few months after this issue arose I decided it would go the way I didnt want it to go and after not being so happy I got over it. We'll all deal with it. We dont have a choice. One of the reasons I decided it would be DOH was that I heard some union contracts had boarding by DOH written into them. Is this not true or can the company not abide by the contract? Please let us know if any of the pilot, f/a or cs contracts have this detailed. Moving on, if we board by cutest I will nn to wear a paper bag and may start a business selling them at security like the tsa hands out zip top bags. We have some very cute employees.(Im not kdding!) If we use a frequest flyer analogy let me throw this out. What if you as a gold member has been notified of an upgrade, you are checked in, boarded AND having a predeparture drink(and a Biscoff for L4P) and a platinum shows up. He just bought the tkt and would like the upgraded seat. They nicely request that you move to coach because he has more miles. Would you be happy? You only paid for coach and he DOES fly more miles? This would never happen but you get the drift. Mama

First come first served, its fair and its the right thing to do.

You all have your seniority for bidding, FCFS is for everyone else.

Its not hard to plan ahead.
And you board after all active employees? Or do you have a perk?

NO, lots of f/a's on the west side commute, too. The East want's seniority : "we deserve it" is the mntra from the East side.

sky high states: "WE EARNED IT"......more like it. Imagine YOU started at this company in 1979. During your junior years, watched the more senior employees bypass you into those empty non-rev seats. Through the years, it got better as your seniority increased. Now, 28 years later, YOU WANT TO "TAKE AWAY" that HARD EARNED benefit to board by seniority????

FCFS----Does MANAGEMENT follow this procedure???????? (this system makes "EVERYONE" EQUAL)

only stating opinions.

In this day of "always connected" broadband internet access, some computer whiz will write a program (probably

And will cost more money for something that originally was free.

FCFS is great. However, the manipulation issues are key. Those of you with buddies that are agents know what I mean.

Senority can not be manipulated. Your ID states your hire in date. The reason the date is on there is due to past manipulation and F/A's that lied about there date of hire to get to the front of the line at check in.

Just like the ETB board (fcfs) you've got a group of reserves that have it figured out. They pay someone to sit on the ETB and get the trips they want. Thats progressive and an entrapeneural advantage again adding more costs to be a F/A. Not what I want to do.
