The Amazing Shrinking Airline

Not too sure about that...

You beat me to it, algflyr. I wanted to check to be sure, and though there are departures shown thru 2009, none of them are East 757's.

Since we are losing 3 now, do we get our seats back???
Read the language very carefully.....

"The best transition agreement in aviation history" is apt to bite some folks again.

...When we got the 3 new 757's, it was not in the plan and we had to give seats away to AWA pilots. Since we are losing 3 now, do we get our seats back???
Yeah right, something in our favor. <_<

Not too sure about that... The current fleet and projected fleet (including additions and subtractions) of both the East and West was listed in the Transition Agreement. That showed East at 31 757's with no planned reduction. It also showed the West at 13 757's with a planned reduction of 1 aircraft in March of this year. If it was a part of the business plan and was known for a long time, it would have been shown.

The west is down six airframes from what was in the plan.

it's how Douggie is keeping RASm so high in hopes of getting new investors to loan him money to buy another airline. He has forgotten to notice that other carriers continue to grow into US' markets.

US Airways ALPA MEC chairman Jack Stephan recently received a letter from senior management indicating in the first quarter of 2007 US Airways will remove three East B757s from the inventory.
Management indicated they were looking for replacement aircraft.

The latest on the 757 going away at US Airways East…

The three that are leaving are part of the eight that are NOT getting new N numbers.

None of the eight are getting new paint.

A little bird who lives west of me has said that although mgmnt claims they are shopping for replacements, none of the replacements are 757’s.

"The best Transition Agreement in aviation history!" Eh, USA320?

Those three 757s are three of the newest East recieved from Boeing, they are not in need of any extra ordinary maintenance other then their norman checks.

They were built in 1994.

It is my understanding that MEC chairman Jack Stephan recently talked with US Airways vice president of operations Ed Bular reagarding the first quarter 2007 loss of three of the oldest B757s.

Someone's not telling the truth here! I wonder who that might be?

Anyone? USA320? USA320?

It would make sense for AA to take the RR-757s off LCC's hands. That was the plan in 2000 pursuant to the UA purchase of US. Of course, AA recently announced that it will return its 17 P&W-757s to the lessors over the next year or so. Looks like DL has agreed to take 10 or so of them. Maybe LCC can get the others.

Technically, nothing means that 622/3/4AU are the one's leaving. All that the linked blurb says is that the owner changed, not that the lease will be ending. Of course, that doesn't mean that they won't be the one's leaving, either.

Jim

700 is correct. N622/623/624AU are among the youngest 757s in the "east" fleet. Of course, this may also explain why they're not scheduled to be painted yet. At any rate, 623 is painted in the *A livery and probably wouldn't be repainted, at all.

It would surprise me if these were the three that are going away. Surprise - but not shock. There's not much left that the sandcastle can do to shock me.

Is Christine finally going to retire to sunny Arizona or California after all her hard years of work?
EAST has a Christine? Cool. The WEST version of Christine was one of the 747's. Disco light shows in the cabin. Uncommanded on and off reading lights, and call lights. And yes. she was a hangar queen too

It is my understanding the aircraft to be removed from the fleet are 610au, 612au, and 617au.

When Captain Stephan was initially notified of the aircraft being removed there was speculation it was due to maintenance because of Doug Parker's comments during different Crew News webcasts.

In a subsequent conversation between Captain Stephan and Captain Bular (US Airways' vice president of flight operations) he told the MEC chairman the three aircraft scheduled for removal are being recalled by the lessors because they apparently can get better than market rates for these aircraft.

Walmartgreeter, could you add any more to this news?

Best regards,

USA320Pilot

better than market rates
Actually, whatever rate a willing leasee and leasor agree on is by definition the "market rate" - neither better nor worse.

I suspect that the leasor isn't willing to extend/renew these leases at below current market rates.
