Turnover Rate?

Please note - these are not career jobs - turnover is an absolute imperative to keep the cost down.
Interesting statement was made at a Tempe Town Hall meeting a couple of months ago. The question was put to Dougie that if the merge happened with DL all pay would go up. Well, obviously the merge didn't happen and noone got a raise. DP stated in a joint effort with Michael Carreon(I don't know how many of you have had the misfortune of meeting the controller, but boy what a weasel) that the attrition rate isn't high enough in any one department company wide to justify a review of the payscale. If they see 20 or more openings in any department obviously they would adjust and and are willing to do that but for now, they have a great group of people and people will always want to make more money. I THINK THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL THEY WILL NEVER PAY THEIR EMPLOYEES WHAT THEY ARE WORTH, I MEAN HOW MUCH WORSE DOES THE TURNOVER HAVE TO GET TO JUSTIFY RAISES? It's all on the employee website.

like i said start standing on our heads and check them in with our monkey feet.. you get peanuts .. yeh maybe we can toss a slew of ..........

The turnover in Tempe is just as fast as the turnover was at Crystal Palace. A bunch of college kids who were looking for full time jobs during their stay in college and even got credits based on employment. Hell, some of the college kids lasted longer than some of the CEO's!

Not such a simple answer, there are very few if any college kids who work at Rio West or Headquarters. Maybe some at the airport, or REZ. So sad to say they can't even blame the turnover on that.

Our turnover in Phoenix is outrageous. They seem to be hiring all the time, and short staffed. The ramp has the highest turnover, followed by gate agents/csrs. I think we lose about 10-20 flight attendants a month. Right now, there is a fa class scheduled to come online in early September. I think they need to start fa training for Philly base, from what everyone has been saying, with the constant crew shortages. I wonder why they won't hire fa's out East?? Have they exausted the furlough list yet? As far as corporate people, they are in there own little world, I am sure turnover is low.
the rumor is that PHX lost 250 F/A's 8-2006 to 8-2007. Most were junior resignations, some terminations, a couple of deaths, and probably 10 retirements.

We have physical mail boxes that are like PO Boxes. When someone leaves, there is a vacant box creating a gap in the numerical order (numeric by badge number). Every August they realign the boxes so that the vacant boxes are after the most junior person. There were about 250 boxes that had to be relocated

Would be interesting to know the turnover percentage? Once turnover reaches a certain level the low wages can not offset the rising cost of training, recruiting and on the job learning curve. In the end low wages actually begin to contribute to the lack of operational efficiency.

So in most case the logical solution is to "Fix" that by raising the level of pay. However when you have a large percentage of contract workers that is less easy to do. If US wasn't fast becoming the laughing stock or commercial aviation they might also have a better shot at attracting good people. The wheels on the bus are starting to come off.

When you earn strong profits the right way, through having an operationally sound organization, well paid, Motivated, Productive employees your company name in aviation is CO or WN.

If you make the profit by mistreating and paying your employees the lowest passible wage then you have the turnover plagued, operationally unsound airline known as US Airways. I don't just make this up read the DOT info.
The wheels aren't falling off yet every fltight is full. For the life of me I can't figure out why people keep coming back.
The turnover rate is high at most stations.

I think AFA would have a major problem with that considering we still have about a thousand involuntary furloughes and another few thousand voluntary furloughs. The problem in the east is poor planning, they have never been able to figure out where to put people. Combine that with an ever-changing route network focus, seasonal international, half of the airline being shut down, and the remainder forced to commute to other bases, and you have the cluster they have now.

Besides a few small recalls recently, no one leaves, no one starts, it's just stagnant. We just get displaced all around. We simply get pushed around like food on Kate Moss's plate.
 Once again EMBFA your analogies and facts speak the truth. As far as WCT....."What planet are you reporting from? Hire in the EAST......you need to KNOW THE FACTS (many furloughed) before you diagnosis THE PROBLEM. I highly doubt there will EVER be hiring on the EAST until every leaf on the tree has been shaken. (Many remain on furlough, passing on recalls because they choose NOT to go to BOS/LGA/DCA. They CAN"T afford to be based there after all the concessions. They will CONTINUE to P-A-S-S until the recall bites them in the Arsce and they ARE FORCED TO Make The Decision. The high turnover in The WEST is amazing.......continual hiring process- obviously something is screwed up out there because there has been NO GROWTH. Maybe Sherri Shambles can EXPLAIN  ...."Who Me?"

US Airways is a $#it-hole, but then again, many airlines are like that from what I hear. 😉 From my personal experience though, and after comparing stories with people the likes at AA and other carriers, US tops the list in the creativeness of their quest to terminate as many as they can. It's like a sport over there. I can say that management at US resorts to highly unethical behavior in order to achieve attrition. The motto is to engage in plain'ol mobbing. Workplace harassment is at extreme levels. Mental wars are waged with no regard to the human toll it takes even on those who are forced to provoke it - that being the low-level managers and supervisors. Even the most evil of the evil inflight supervisors, surprisingly give up due to the inability to keep up to the US Air(AWA) standards, and wind up quitting or moving to other departments after say a max of 6 years. Nevertheless, even people like Dan Pon - soon to be ex-vp of HR, that have somewhat of a heart are marginalized out the door.

Only people like the Barb Trella's of this world, who live double lives by for instance 'supposedly' saving people's lives and adopting children; yet turning around and being the utmost evil of evils and, destroying other people's lives, have a chance to make it there at US Airways. I suppose that in her case it all evens itself out - do some good, but then equal it out with some evil -it's like having found the right balance of life. I recently had an opportunity to listen in on some of her opinions about PHX flight attendants. You wouldn't even get close to guessing the things she spreads around about PHX F/As in casual conversations with her buddies.

But then again.... hopefully one day... what goes around truely comes back around in some sort of evil shape or form. In any event, that beautiful smile of hers, it's an evil one. Do not trust her. Needless to say, don't trust any of the management people.

PHX fires F/As at a rate of 4-10 a month - a stark contrast to the east side of things. You have to understand that PHX is an AWA fortress and business is taken care of the way AWA has always taken care of things. This explains why America West was hiring F/A's not too long after 911, when nobody else would. That explains why C number wise, they are at around 9600 yet they only have about 2600 active F/A's. It would be fun to see some sort of audit of how many of those 7000 others were fired. I could put it conservatively at around twice the workforce that they currently have in PHX; so roughly 4000.

A ramper or gate agent should not be a career. With few exceptions a families second income, or for insurance needs or flight benefits/life style issues. But no sane/capable person should be the family bread winner and aspire to be a ramper or gate agent for 20+ years that is just poor career planning.

Aren't you special.

Your mindset is atrocious! Who are YOU to dictate what is a viable career path and which is not? It all boils down to PERSONAL choice. Would you tell the garbage collector that has been picking up your trash curbside for the past 15 years that he shouldn't be a garbage man? Would you tell the person that delivers your mail every day for the past 20 years, that he shouldn't be a mail carrier? C'mon guy, get off your high horse and humble yourself a little. There are some really decent folks that commit themselves to coming to the airport to do a pretty unforgiving job on a daily basis. Obviously, you can't perform in that capacity, or you would have a little more compassion for the folks that do!

Everyone deserves the right to earn a living wage in their job. Not everyone is going to be a doctor, lawyer or widebody captain. That doesn't mean every job should made you a millionaire, simply that you should be able to feed, clothe and house yourself and family on your income.

Please refer to the Urban Dictionary for DOUCHBAG. It's people like YOU that are enough to make anybody not want to come on here. I'll be taking my break from here. See ya after the new year. Man, what a complete ass. 🙄
