Unionization

UPS is not HP, cargo vs Airline.

Why do the ibt represented clerks at HP make $12.00 and the IAM represented at US/East make $16.67?

Seems to me the IAM has the better deal.

Just like the GSE mechs at East make more then their counterparts at west.

Well, my friend what we need to do is ask, (No Demand) a BIGGER PIECE Of THE PIE.

(Quote DELL ASE licenses are a dime a dozen...I prepped for those tests and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to pass them...in fact most AMT's could probably pass without studying.)

It hurts me to say this but a ASE licensed Mechanic is listed as SKILLED Labor and a AMT/A&P is listed as UNSKILLED Labor so why have unskilled bumping out skilled workers? On the other hand, if a AMT holds an ASE license I see nothing wrong with the bump if your seniority can hold the position.
As for the AMT bumping senior repairman certificate, I see nothing wrong with this. The repairman with his certificate rides on the shirttails of the AMT's license and if this senior repairman is worried about his job he needs to go get his A&P LICENSE so he can protect his seniority. That way he can hold a position as an Aircraft Mechanic.

Only if you consider giving up vacation, sick time, holidays, and in some cases pay a better deal.

UW, i guess the stockers on the east were at top dollar on their first contract. That is my point for GSe's. they can bump gse's out at anytime and ti Dell, no most amt's COULD NOT pass an ASE without studying.......

AMEN to that brother.
As 700aw said We were on our FIRST contract with the IBT and as we all know you do not get a UPS contract the very frist time out.
I see the IBT working for its members as they did at UPS and AirTran with Wages and Scope and more!
AirTran is the 12th largest Airline with pay at $30.25 and UPS at the TOP in the industry.

GOOD JOB IBT! THAT IS WHAT YOU PAY DUES FOR. (A UNION THAT WORKS FOR YOU AND NOT YOU WORKING FOR THE UNION)

Approximately 325 aircraft maintenance technicians and aircraft inspectors employed at Atlanta-based AirTran Airways ratified a new contract in voting tallied on September 30. Negotiated by Local 528 in Atlanta, the contract raises workers’ wages to near the top of the industry over the contract’s four-year term, allows workers to bank accumulated sick-leave time and includes strong language securing workers’ jobs against outsourcing.

“This is a very good contract, the best we’ve gotten at AirTran,†said Troy Johnson, a five-year AirTran mechanic. “AirTran is the number 12 in airline size, but our wages are now the second-highest â€

“We feel that the wages, benefits and security provided by this new contract are exceptional, especially in the airline industry,†said Don Toney, Local 528 President. “It also shows the respect for the entire maintenance department held by the company.â€

In addition to raising wages by 24 percent, on average, over the contract’s term, the agreement features two especially noteworthy additions. Workers can now bank sick-leave time, accruing hours over years of service. New scope language protects jobs against outsourcing. The scope language was negotiated with the assistance of Ray Benning of the Teamsters Airline Division.

“The scope language Ray secured is a huge benefit,†said John Mays, Local 528 business agent and head of the contract-bargaining committee. “It helps ensure that workers’ jobs will stay at AirTran.â€

The contract provides two additional vacation days for approximately half of the workers (the other half had already received these days). About 70 percent of workers who voted favored the agreement, which became effective October 1.

“This was a fair contract,†said Johnson, a member of the contract-bargaining committee. “It’s fair for the workers and it’s fair for the company—that was something that we were very aware of during the negotiations.â€

“The workers are real happy with how this turned out,†Mays said. “I think we got a very good contract.â€

Local 528 represents approximately 475 highly skilled workers at AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., including approximately 150 stock clerks and maintenance tech instructors. Local 528 has represented AirTran workers since 1997.

Have A Nice IBT Day.

Guess 700 has no respose to that -- More jobs and better scope is all he can say. And this kinda shoots that defense right out the window.

From my point of view only - giving up wages and benefits for more jobs would not be the answer for those already employed. Maybe the IAM should try organizing the illegals coming across the border, they don't seem to mind the low wages and no benefits. But as a licensed aircraft mechanic, I do. Maybe that is the point that 700 can't understand, (the licensed ).

When Air Tran does their own heavy, then let us know.

Guess you forget Air Tran is ValuJet?

Go ask Dyncorp, you know Timco out at GYR.

Go ask the mechanics that removed the O2 Generators and failed to disarm them and cap them.

The mechanics, who failed to do thier job properly.

Valujet was not shutdown because of stock clerks, it was shutdown due to maintenance probelms.

dude...ASE cert is a walk in the park.....
rufus mobley works gse around here...rufus has the inane mentality of a snail.he is not skilled by any means.
the words skilled and unskilled are some classification set out by some non informed geek.

I know and understand that I am quite skilled and saavy at what I do...I will not lose sleep over some lame classification.Just ask a skilled ASE mech to trim a CFM....

I have some ASE Certs - everybody has to study prior to taking the test. EVEN A&P's, calling it a walk in the park is an insult to the GSE's. It is no easier than the A&P test which is simple memory.
