Was wondering how many aircraft mech. us airways employees and does that number include america west. Is the merger of the mech. a done deal or do you have seperate contracts? How did you guys merge your senioritys?
whats the average length of time for a guy there?

About 3500 mechanics on the seniority list. Merged with DOH. Don't know about avg time, there's senior stations and junior stations and many in between.

They have had a combine CBA for a while, and are currently in Section 6 negotiations.

Seniority was dovetail.

Usair has about 3800 mechanics and related working a this moment. Biggest station is CLT, followed by Pit, Phl, Phx(going by number of represented employees working). Not sure of the order all the way down to ELP where one person is working. We got the final transtion in early 2008 and effective through Dec 31, 2011. The groups were merged by DOH which was the only fair way to go!!

Right now the IAM is in negotiations, but who knows when anything will be finalized. Up until this year we were getting a 3% annual raise but now its pushed out to 18 months (July 13), Right now U mechanics represented by the IAM are proud to have the worst industry lagging contract in the business!!

Wow!

Grandfathered in?

Thinking it maybe someone from the west working in GSE....Guessing they will get wacked after next contract....At one time there was a saftey issue with regards to somebody working by themselves, but any more its all about the bottom dollar!!

50% of all maintenance must be done in-house and it is audited monthly.

I do agree that the contract states" (50%) or greater of all aircraft base maintenance work, inclusive of narrow and wide-body" is supposed to be done inhouse. But then you get into the billable hours thing? Checking the AOS weekly I have yet to see a 50/50 ratio be maintained? Really statting to question the watchdogs...pretty simple math...17 ac out of service for heavy checks and 12 being worked at vendors? And that is not including the lease returns?

Had a 321 require a rib replacement in TPA last year....TPA a current line Mtc station yet the union allowed the company farm out the work to Pemco at the old Usair Mtc Hgr, using the term billable hours?

Just not really happy with this so called "Union" as you may tell....

What else would one expect from the IAM

Not a great contract to work from. Tough to get any improvements. Theres plenty that need to be done. Pemco should've never gotten that work....
Heard the other day that the sick time is a strike issue...?? Maybe they haven't read the rest of the contract.. Or never been on strike... Anyways, looking at the contract, they've got some work to do. Starting with art. II.

You have to remember, the Transition Agreement is based off of a chapter 11 basically imposed CBA, this is the first true negotiations since bankruptcy.

And what really S**cks is when you recieve the 142 Observer what takes up two pages..."Organizing El Salvador" ??? Our union dollars and resources at work in Central America?? Just think its a slap in the face!! Almost nothing about current contract negotiations! other than wemet exchanged proposals and will meet again!! 3% raise in July 12 and then another 3% July 13 if no contract in place? What is the incentive for the company to settle? We are the lowest paid in the industry!!!

Actually AA's mechanics make less than you and they are getting ready for more cuts.
