Us Airways Afa President Wants Airline To Ease Up

When was the last time that flight plan did not come up over ACARS?

Clue,

That's the only part I could quibble with - maybe you meant "clearance" instead of "flight plan". That 6 foot long piece of paper we get before every flight has the flight plan (though in unusual situations, dispatch can send it to us via ACARS). The theory that a tree is felled for every flight that takes off is alive and well.

The rest of what you said I can remember from my youth all too well.....

Autopilot? You wanted to build flying time - now fly.

Wx Radar? That's why you've got windows - look out them.

Dispatch? Here's a pad of forms to fill in and a flight service number to call for wx and filing.

Weight & Balance? Here's another pad of forms - don't forget an extra pencil.

Jim

PSA, I would have been much less obstinate about the whole thing if SKY had given reasons why the story was likely false.

I have noticed that the jumpseats look particularly uncomfortable, though I guess it's a question of degree (i.e., is it less comfortable to be sitting on the jump or standing on the feet).

That is your opinion. Some people would value their time at a higher rate than their income through a bad job, and thus not work.

SKY HIGH,

I think you are way to defensive on this.

Why do you always say something like people are .. way too defensive or bitter and why do you like to insult people you do not agree with?

Dear, Pineybob, I sit hear and read most of your posts and just when I think you have got a idea on some of the issues, then you -uck it up. You sure know how to ride the fence. So before you start hammering away at the keys and try to blast me, just read. I think, this started because one f/a sat on the jumpseat and read a book. You sit there and bad mouth every employee at U at one time or another. But have you been in any one of their shoes. Oh! I know, you think of Jerry Glass as your hero, because you and god, sorry, Glass think the employees at U should just be thankful that we work under his Highness. Let me ask you a question, Go, back, far back, your in school you get off the school bus, or in your case , limo.. some bullies say give me a dollar and I won't hit you in the nose, so to avoid a big commotion, you pay the dollar, but still get punched in the nose. It's kind of like concessions, how many times do you give, before you fight back. What has this management team done to show the employees any thing to help them out, to BOOST moral to say, Great Job guys. To this date, NOTHING. So for the f/a that was sitting reading a book, SO WHAT!!!! How do you think the employees feel when they come to work every day, work extra hard only to watch management reap all the pay and their big bonuses. Please, don't tell me about what you would do, or tell me to go find another job. I've read most of your posts. I know how you think.

We've established on here numerous times that there is no problem with a F/A having a seat and reading quietly to pass the time as long as they are providing the required service and monitoring the cabin. I'm not sure what else they are supposed to be doing during this time.

Some MAA F/As were spoken to about doing coffee and water services in addition to the standard beverage and meal services on the longer midcon flights, as it's not procedure and the lost revenue of the coffee bag apparently overrides the goodwill of attentive cabin service. You can't win either way... you work someone complains, you sit someone complains.

Yes, we have.

Sky high states: Less obstinate?
And, I GAVE YOU A GOOD REASONS WHY FLIGHT ATTENDANTS TAKE BREAKS..10-14 HOUR DUTY DAYS. WE NEED TO TAKE TIME OUT, RELAX, AND EAT!!!.....WHAT PART OF THAT DIDNT YOU UNDERSTAND? THEN YOU TWIST THAT INTO ME CONDONING SOMEONE SITTING FOR 4 HOURS.

AND PINEY BOB, this is a profession that has always had to DEFEND itself from Management and the flying public. Why is THIS INDUSTRY so heavily unionized?
Remember the flight attendant strikes at TWA, AA, or UAL? Negotiations went on FOR YEARS!!! The flying public response, ohhh, they're waitesses in the sky, how dare they want pensions, health-care and raises.
Flight Attendants were getting BEAT UP by dozens throughout the nineties while management looked the other way. Skyrage cases happened by the hundreds per year.
As a profession we have had to LOBBY CONGRESS to end discrimination in our workplace for decades.
I understand that they're a few bad apples in the bunch. Bob. Hiring in the late 90's brought onboard SOME new hires with attitude. "It's not my job" is their mantra. But, lower pay and benefits brings on less qualified, company driven employees.

THOUSANDS of flight attendants care, here's just one that shined when required.

Good bye, Uli. You did us PROUD.
