US Pilots Labor Discussion

Interesting how people like us can agree strongly on matters like the state of our "union" and the right thing to do with regard to the arbitrated seniority list, yet be so far apart politically.

Both parties represent the interests of the Central Banks and Fortune 100.

They just pander to different constituents to give the illusion of having a choice.

Notice, I did not say the Democrats are a particular friend of airline pilots. I just said there are NO friends of labor among the Republicans. The Democrats are hit and miss. But one thing is certain. The POTUS appoints the 3 members of the NMB. The current members are far more labor friendly than those under GW Bush. Labor (all labor, not just one segment) put Obama into the White House. Who would you rather have control the NMB when contract negotiations happen, or even a strike? (Not that USAPA is anywhere near getting released for a strike vote.)

And I know that some like to point at Clinton's halting of the AA pilot's strike in 1997(?). However the APA is not affiliated with the AFL-CIO. Here is an interesting news snip-it from then... The national officialdom of the AFL-CIO was noticeably silent leading up to the strike. After Clinton's intervention AFL-CIO spokesperson Denise Mitchell said, "There are a lot of workers involved, and a lot of consumers who would be affected, and we respect the decisions that were made." On February 18 the Miami Herald commented that the union federation "has kept a low profile during the standoff between American Airlines and its pilots, in part because the pilots don't belong to an affiliated union."

No politician is coming to the aid of the so-called "1%-ers" in the pilot profession. Illegal aliens outnumber union pilots about 250 to one. Politicians know where their real support is coming from.

Illegal aliens do not vote.

Vote for how they will lead the country and even then let your suspicions outweigh your expectations.

I agree that they are all suspect and need to be watched with a critical eye. Maybe my age is showing. I know I will be OK no matter who is elected, and this country will soldier on as it always has from one administration to the next. I guess I've become a "one-issue" voter. The outright attack on labor by the Republicans simply disgusts me.

Obama just signed the NDAA which allows him to arrest, detain, and kill American citizens without trial.

Labor made a big mistake.

If I have to choose between a president that will support my strike and one who says he can kill me without a trial the choice is clear.

Ron Paul.

If organized labor only makes up 13% of the population, please show us how 13% did that and 87% did nothing.

I can't stop laughing.

IBT Ad Hoc Committee Update

USAPA has received a reply from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) to our questions concerning further affiliation options in terms of a merger. This response letter, from IBT Director of the Teamsters Airline Division Captain David Bourne, may be found here, as well as on the top of the IBT Ad Hoc Committee page of the USAPA Web site.

To summarize, Capt. Bourne says the Division is engaged in "several large scale drives underway that have my Division staff and attorneys spread around the nation" and is not currently in a position to consider "another new drive for membership." He indicates that "later in 2012" he will put together a team at the Airline Division to answer our questions. In the meantime he suggests discussing some unspecified addendum to the current Alliance Agreement.

This election coming up I think is one of the most important ones in the last 50 years. Before you decide to be a one issue voter I urge you to look closely at the current administrations actual track record and what they have stated publicly about what they want to do. NOT what POTUS is saying on the campaign trail and presidential addresses.

There have already been numerous attempts to circumvent the constitution. Modification of the constitution seem to be the goal if he can get re-elected. And not in a good way.

There are a couple examples in history that you can read up on that turned out very bad for all involved. Both of the examples I am thinking of started out with the same choices we are now looking at. Most people would be very surprised at how easily the respective countries were turned into black spots on the face of history.

For someone that studied way too much history in school, the similar events make me worry about my kids futures.

I think this election will be about the lesser of two evils. Neither choice is a good one.

Thats great news. I dealt with the IBT in a previous life, I do not want to see that crowd anywhere near another workplace of mine.
