DCA Domicile Update (Notice of Attempt to Update): March 12, 2012

Fellow DCA Pilots,

We regret to inform you that we have reached an impasse with the Communications Committee Chairman in our attempt to publish multiple updates in February and now into March. Even this short message has been censored and edited by the Communications Chairman from what we are trying to say to you. Please call or email us if you have any questions.
We believe that we are still allowed to talk to you.

Communications Update: March 12, 2012

You may have heard concerns that Communications has interfered with or censored Domicile Representatives communicating with their constituents. The fact of the matter is that we strive to work with the Reps, and most importantly, we work very hard to ensure that we provide you only factual information.

The duties of the Communications Committee as per the UOM are stated below, and in part are:

The Communications Committee, as a USAPA committee, exists to "Assist the National Officers in administering the business of the Association." Additionally, the Communications Committee shall supervise all communications with the membership...at the direction of the President and the BPR and shall "act in a quality control capacity to ensure technical accuracy and policy compliance for...All USAPA Updates, including Domicile Updates."

Recently the Communications Committee exercised its due diligence and did not publish unsubstantiated opinions of an individual that took place at a domicile meeting. While we publish the opinions of your Reps, we do not provide a forum to publish individual members' opinions in our communications. This is not to say that we don't value or encourage member feedback. On the contrary, we strongly encourage members to provide their input via the proper channels, reporting to their elected representatives who in turn will bring those concerns to the Board.

As your Communications Chair, it is important to me that you understand our objective, which is to provide you with the facts so you can form your own opinion.

USAPA Communications Chairman

Didn't Kleary send out a message claiming "someone" had been in the USAPA office at an early hour and then attached his own opinion of their motives? He surely must be exempt from the rules under which others must toil.

And you want more of the same with Hummel/Bradford?

What? You are upset that your unbiased facts can't be published at cost to USAir pilot dues on USAPA letterhead. Near as I can tell you get paid to write your unbiased facts at FL350 on the Air Bus table... and I have been on your jump seat. P.S. Thanks for the safe flight.

US Airways
The sad news for US Airways is that without American Airlines to pick on, I feel the former now falls into the "worst of breed" category for the airline sector. It did put together a string of good quarters in 2011 and grew passenger revenue per available seat mile by 8.5%. But a 38% rise in fuel costs and $4.57 billion in long-term debt says that US Airways has a long way to go before it gains my trust.

US Airways has had a free cash outflow in seven of the past 10 years -- and one of the positive years was so marginal ($2 million) we may as well call it flat. Consumers are opting more and more for the cheapness and timeliness of regional airlines, completely bypassing national carriers. With more than 100 bankruptcies on record in the airline sector since 1990 -- two of which go to US Airways (2002, 2004) -- it's quite possible a third time could be in the cards at some point down the road for US Airways.

Foolish roundup
Just because these five companies maintain a lot of debt doesn't necessarily mean they're doomed, but it raises a yellow flag. Sound off in the comments section below with your opinion on the above companies and consider adding them to your free and personalized watchlist.

Was following along until I got to this part:

Consumers are opting more and more for the cheapness and timeliness of regional airlines, completely bypassing national carriers.

Totally clueless individual. How do people like this get jobs advising people on financial matters?

I wish I could say this surprises me, but it doesn't. These guys are absolutely lacking in integrity or intelligence for that matter. Previously I felt it would just be a basic decision for the east to make. Do you want to remain separate to take advantage of the attrition or move forward toward a better contract. If these meat-heads get back in power I think it will get more complicated than that. Currently I don't think there is any danger of a bump/flush for the east. If they willfully do enough harm to the west however that may become an option for a remedy. These guys won't stop until they've done serious damage to both groups (all US pilots). What am I saying? Those guys won't stop even after that.

They have no guts. They let thugs tell them what to do. It is a culture of intimidation and they won't stand up to the bullies who want to run the show.

They are a black mark to the airline industry and I am ashamed to be assiociated with these people, I have no respect for them.
