Compass Correction Update (PARTICIPATION – IT’S FUNDAMENTAL!): March 20, 2012
We at the Compass Correction have a nagging suspicion that National Officers Elections are ongoing at our Union, but could find no written evidence from USAPA to confirm that fact. So we went to our USAPA website to check just to be sure. Sure enough, there it was, on the front page of the Members Home Page. Now, if you couldn’t find it, don’t feel too bad; it’s one of five messages and you will catch it only if you linger long enough for it to cycle through. Isn’t this new revitalized Communications Committee doing a bang-up job?
A USAPA member looking for Presidential, Vice Presidential and EVP election information will find no mention of it on the domicile pages of PHL, CLT, or DCA. Shouldn’t the Domiciles be targeting this subject (voting)? Mention of the Election is also missing from the recent PHX’s domicile page.
More sadly we find that the National organization, through some of its officers and committees are stifling the voices of the two DCA reps. The PHL council chair Szpyrka and his fellow rep Gilles have already attempted to stifled the newest PHL Vice Chairman, Jamie Weidner, from communicating with his constituency.
We are of course being a bit tongue in cheek here; but the matter is very serious to the Compass Correction Coalition; so here is it, straight up:
Bill McKee, Steve Crimi, Steve Szpyrka, and Mike Gilles, it is you and your behavior that concern us. Mr. Cleary you should be ashamed to allow this to happen on your watch. You, Mr. Cleary, and your four lock stepped reps., by now not endorsing a candidate, actively discouraging voter participation and by shamelessly stifling the voices of elected reps. have allowed the development of a situation that is worse than ever…Yes even worse than ALPA! Had ALPA used the same tactics on this pilot group back in 2008, you would all be still paying ALPA dues at the same time exercising a whole lot less seniority on this property. So shame on you all!
Mike Cleary came into office promising a 45-day process for obtaining a date of hire contract. He promised a successful strike, should that process fail. He promised a war on management, for their treatment of the pilots. Mike Cleary leaves office having waged war on his political opponents, and the lawyers who extended credit to USAPA when it was only a dream and who helped to birth this union.
Management is watching the level of our Participation. There are two days left to vote. Polls close on Thursday the 22nd of March at 14:00 EDT. Make sure you, and your fellow member friends and seatmates have voted!
Not Voting is a Vote for Team Tempe!
