ok east. I've been reading of this challenge for 8 years and haven't heard any details. What are looking to judge? Short field landings, stall recovery altitude loss, best dressed? Give some detail about your challenge would you.

My suggested venue's always been nothing more than essentially just a harmless, "tourist" level fantasy-fighter venue like the following: http://aircombat.com/
My honest disclaimer would be to not have it be one I pretty much know the people at, just for fairness' sake, nor would I "set up" anyone.

The sad likes of traderjake's whiney BS about any "Dogfight" hardly apply, since the only predictable harm to anyone would be purely by way of ego and wallet....well, unless they're among "sparta's" elite "leadership" and their "liberty" tie sales, personal pride and position might suffer from contractually agreed, afterwards posted video of their "skills" aloft, of course.

i think it's fair to say all other posters have taken your challenge as being infantile and unmeasurable. I think your lack of a candidate is answered by their experience. If we were all instructors to be, I am sure someone would've taken the challenge. We could do beer bongs and talk **** about all kinds of stuff. I'm just really curious about what would make a pilot in your eyes? At this point in my career I don't know how I would judge another given all the variables that determine a safe flight versus something else. Maybe back when I first started flying, but not now.

I've no idea what possible excuse any can offer for it being at all supposedly "unmeasurable", since all would be evidenced on posted video for indeed the whole world to see, but I suppose that's as good an "out" as some can "conveniently" manage.

"I'm just really curious about what would make a pilot in your eyes?" Well, something a bit beyond incredibly childish videos boasting of fantasized "battles"/"valor"/"knights" and shouts of "This is Sparta!" might be at least a good start. Got any suggestions?

Don't get me wrong here Bean. I mean no personal affront to you, as you've always been one of the very few level-headed folks to ever post from PHX/"Sparta", but do at least try to understand my (I think very reasonably, and in fact unavoidably evolved over time) total contempt for the vast majority of your coworkers that post here.

I may post this prior to your response but, there are many pilots amongst you that have no military experience, meaning I couldn't even begin to do aerial combat. I tried to get the government to pay for my flight training and was told in 1995 that I could be a crew chief after a visit to the Air Force and Navy recruitment office. Clinton military shrinkage. That was after graduating with an aerospace engineering degree, something the military happened to insist upon at the time for pilot candidates. Still didn't get any traction and pulled out for the civilian route. Your experience flying for our military is my envy but I don't consider myself less because I didn't have the same opportunity. There is more to being a good aviator than shooting the nazi ace out of the sky.

"your experience flying for our military is my envy but I don't consider myself less because I didn't have the same opportunity." BS. "opportunity" my arse. If you wanted it bad enough; you would have found a way to make it happen. Just how many people do you truly imagine were greeted with open arms and instantly greased tracks to facilitate their flying dreams?

"I don't consider myself less" Nor do I consider you less, but don't whine about not having "the same opportunity". You did.

Fortunately for "you'se", I've no ready access to an internet-reach flyswatter. 😉

In hindsight, I could've made it happen. Could have been recruited as a mechanic with the hope a pilot slot would've opened up. I just didn't want to waste the time waiting for that to be a possible outcome. Nobody knew at that time how long that would've took. Who knows the future, especially when a decision has to be made. In my situation, it was a clear decision. I guess I could have just hoped things would change with respect to a military commitment, but that was big commitment for a 23 yr old who didn't want to sign away a portion of his life to hope things did change. I went to recruiters with the thought I will only sign if a pilot slot is attainable. They couldn't promise that. I chose to begin flying as soon as possible.

Stop feeding the troll. He's a consumate L.O.S.E.R. Nothing will ever change that.

"No harm/No foul" to my mind Bean. We can only ever best do what seems most reasonable at any point in our lives (or driven by passion/whatever) and you did make sure you got to fly in any case. Much of the military experience proved a "bit" less joyful than my much younger self's "cheap-thrills/high-velocity/glory" fantasies had otherwise supposed in any case. 😉

I guess the whole idea that I could have made it happen isn't relavent. The U.S. Wasn't taking applications. No matter how hard you wanted it. The recruitment officers told me that pilots that had gotten pilot slots months earlier were being repositioned to be something other than pilots. Dont know what you mean about if I really wanted it I could've made it happen.

Just read your response and thank you. I think we are on the same page. So what about that flying wager again? What do we do now?

Given your earlier disclaimer on some aspects of flying; I'm wide open to any/all suggestions. My notion was of the recreational, fantasy "fighter" encounter mode at some mutually agreeable operation...and yes; not one I'd have any "home town/team" advantage at.

Think on it and see what you come up with as a suitable idea. Must wrap it up for tonight, and will check back tomorrow. PM's perfectly acceptable for further discussion, since I don't peg you as any ridiculous "spartan" that would lie, as some have, but whatever you're most comfortable with.
