Dangerous Overnight

sky high states: We've stayed there how many years??? Over 10 years? Have you heard of any incidences of rape, robbery or theft TO A CREWMEMBER? I've NEVER heard of anything happening to any crewmember out there, has anyone? I've NEVER heard of anyone writing up the hotel either. Soooo, based on that.............the company's view may be different.

Sorry to take the wind out of your sails, but I recently flew with a F/A who had been maced on her walk back from an early morning breakfast.

Sky, you haven't heard of anything bad happening to crew members on overnights in LAS? Surely your joking right? Ok so a bad place is one where you need to be raped first before they change the location? It's bad. Having lived in vegas I can tell you that that area is a seedy. As for TUPAC getting shot it was right in front of Cesar's Palace. I think most in the world can figure out just who did that crime. If we should stay away from the Strip in Vegas then I guess we should get off of International Drive in Orlando, Downtown, San Diego with their bums, San Francisco with THEIR bums, Seattle with THEIR bums and AAAAALL the crime that goes on in those cities. Let's not forget NYC or anyone remember the old downtown overnight in Detroit? PLEEEEEEASE! ! ! The equivalent of us staying where we are in Vegas now would be like overnighting us in New York on some side street. It is OFF the beaten path and a dark walk regardless of a lighted parking lot. The point is there HAS been bad things going on at the hotel and surrounding area. That will continue to be that way regardless of "security and better lighting". AGAIN nobody has said how they intend to get a restful sleep while they fill in the levy next door along with leveling the ghetto and erecting a new hotel behind it. Ummmm HELLO???? (sound of crickets).

sky high states: Wind out of my sails???.....dont know why you responsed that way, but, my comments had QUESTION MARKS at the end of them. Generally, hotels get reputations pretty fast. Example: Hotel in NYC had bedbugs. I have NOT heard that particular hotel was unsafe, nor any crewmembers stating in the lobby, be very careful around here, it's unsafe. Furthermore, I never, ever walked over to the strip IN THE DARK. I must have safety on the brain, 24-7. <smile>

thanks for the heads up, though.

I agree that we need to be in an area that is not off the beaten path. I wrote to MF and he basically said every area of LAS was dangerous and full of crime. He ignored my comment that there is safety in numbers. When I have to leave the hotel to get food and I am the only one on the street out walking, I am a target. I hope everyone has emailed MF and voiced you opinion. We have had 2 FA's pepper sprayed, one almost kiled when she got run over by a car on the street our hotel is on and another was almost forced into a car. I have printed up the e-line and my husband has it in his files. If anything happens to me, we will sue USAirways for putting my safety at risk! Supposedly the AFA is going to visit the location and see for themselves why we are concerned.

With the incidents that have occurred over the years at this hotel such as the pepper sprayed flight attendant, attempted muggings, murder at the hotel (regardless of who, what, where, when or why) and the area it's only gonna come back on the company. I don't care about what is happening at other hotels or other cities for that matter. We are talking about that hotel and what goes on there. Any good attorney will pull all of this history up in court if representing a crew member that gets harmed on this overnight. It's all documented and the company STILL did nothing. I love how nobody answers the question of how we'll get a restful sleep in this hotel with all of the construction starting up. Your gonna sleep for your red eye while they fill in the levy and build a new hotel right behind the joint? This whole vegas hotel ordeal is total BS and needs to be dealt with correctly. I don't give a rats @$$ about the jackasses that want to sit in Terrible's that DUMP and gamble penny slots. It about ALL OF US and safe to say MOST would want to leave. Why not put out a survey for ALL the crew members to fill out. I didn't know they were taking percentage phone calls or I would have called and voiced MY opinion. Between Mike and John M in local 70 who is blowing who? I mean the responses from them both. Morons...absolutely a bunch of morons. This hotel issue isn't finished I bet.

What do you want? Do you want secured and locked overnight dorms inside the sterile area of the airport? Also, what's with the comment you don't care what occurs in other cities? Boise had a FA killed 5-6 years ago while exercising. Boise for crying out loud. I know, you don't care about that.

Just what the heck do you want that would take care of your needs in a city that never closes?

Well lets see here, what do I want? A hotel that is more "in the middle of everything" so I'm not singled out while getting food. A hotel that doesn't have a record of crew members being bothered. Those two are biggies for me. Oh yeah I'd like a hotel that is on a street in the "city of lights" that well, actually has street lights. That road is dark and the area is bad. Again, it's off the beaten path. That sound too outlandish for you? I lived in vegas, don't tell me the area isn't bad. I'd watch the news and that area along with a few others were ALWAYS on there. It needs to change.

Cross-Slapâ„¢!

Anyway, nycbusdriver made a good point earlier. You have to leave the property to get to a restaurant.

I’m not a slam-clicker and hate eating in hotel restaurants, so I enjoy taking a walk. But then I’m a big guy who doesn’t take crap from panhandlers and wanna-be perps. Meeting up with a violent drug addict does not sound like fun, though.

SKY High states: I enjoy reading the POST online: http://www.nypost.com/seven/08242007/frontback.htm

how ironic, today's news about Kirsten Dunst's getting ROBBED in a HOTEL PENTHOUSE.

Wow.

Shockingly enough, i just got an email that stated there are several crewmembers emailing the union that we should stay there. I could not believe that when I was reading it. When I layover there, when I leave to go get dinner, I am the only one walking on the street. That makes me the target for many crimes. So the union tells me I should start taking a cab.

You know what I have to say to the company and the union? F YOU, F taking a cab and F trying to convince people that the place is just as safe as any other hotel in any other city. It's BS. Put out a survey for ALL to vote on and then we'll see how many folks like the hotel. I think a FAIR vote would be if it were a choice between the current hotel up against a reputable hotel. So NOW we have to live with the choices of a FEW? I thought we already had to deal with THAT within the union. Now we have non elected members making choices for us? Where does the madness end? I mean WTF? ! ! ! !

ATTENTION AFA MEC ATTENTION: Listen closely as I am going to tell you how to do a union job. Yes, a unions job called protection of memebers. This is how the situation should have been handled from the get go...

You send out commuication to the members about the event.
You DEMAND we be moved to a hotel with more security and closer to the strip that is clean.
You send out an eline to your members asking for feedback! (this is where you dropped the ball) Ask for feedback. Ask people what thier thoughts are. Ask if anyone had comments or incidents. Just ask you might actually get more than 4 phone calls expressing a view! And Ann, save that story your telling everyone in CLT about getting 60 phone calls not wanting to move and 4 wanting to stay. Please, put that can of goods right back on the shelf and sell it to another sucker. Your lucky to get 60 people in CLT to vote period much less call in about LAS hotels.
You keep the members updated during the bid process.
If the company says it cost too much you send something out every day to them. Flood them with calls. Embarrass them to no end! Pull AFA legal into it in DC with what the consequences could be.
You turn up the pressure and you hold it there. You protect your members. I am sorry but it's not worth the free breakfast buffet to be raped, robbed or murdered. Sometimes decisions that might be unpopular to the free buffet crowd have to be made.

THAT is how to do you job! Yes thats you John, Ann, Mark, Rob, Lynne and Allen! Still waiting for you to act like leaders instead of leaves in the wind. Hope you took notes.

We all know that the hotel is under construction. They don't have to give us those cute little orange cones to remind us. Yesterday, when we got to the hotel, they had a few dozen couches and swivel chairs out front on the concrete, blocking our way to the outdoor elevator. One guy asked me if I wanted to buy one. They were selling them for $8.00 and $5.00. What? I've seen these ragged things in the rooms for at least 20 years! Gross...

Well we sure know that Mr. and Mrs. Parker wouldn't stay at our current LAS hotel. There's no damn bar for heavens sake. What WOULD he do? Oh yeah he could grab that 6pack around the corner. Just MOVE US PLEASE.
