What's new

Fleet Service apathy

Management is again advising most of our members about additional layoffs that will affect 17 stations in total, including all of those mentioned above. It would be nice for the union to have adivsed the members first.

Tim, you assume they know/knew about it in advance, and early enough to do something beforehand. In addition, if they WERE given a heads up it would be illegal to disseminate it to the membership until made public anyway.

Tim, can you post the stations and some numbers if you have them. I'm hearing that PIT catering is going away.

Not at all. I didn't assume anything. What I am saying is that there is no respect from management to this group of leaders. The fact is that management didn't even bother telling the union leadership anything since this group of leaders doesn't command any respect. It's called soft. Our union leadership has almost no information at all regarding most things and management is becoming the resource of choice to get any information about anything. And that's sad.

And it doesn't matter which airline. Look at Delaney's latest update. He claims management at UA 'botched' [his words] the OAK closing this month because it didn't inform him ahead of time. Brothers and sisters, whether we are talking about UA or US, it's the exact same story...no respect. At any rate, no, it wouldn't be illegal. Please cite what law you are referring to.

I heard 17 stations. The only numbers that I have heard are about 145 job losses. The MIA LC posted the following partial list on our facebook site: BOS 16/5, PIT 10/4, LAS 24/4, EWR 6/1, MCO 6/0, PBI 5/0, SFO 3/5, TPA 7/2

Let me tell everyone something… I didn’t just fall off a turnip truck… if anyone actually thinks that changing 141 Presidents is going to solve all of your problems is sadly mistaken. Things like Grievance Procedure and Contract Negations are governed by laws and regulations that MUST be followed… period! You could put the Pope in there… or F. Lee Bailey, along with a hundred of the best labor attorneys in the country…it still wouldn't matter!

Anyone who has had their head out of the sand knows this from watching the pilots thread and reading the news. They (Pilots) went as far as to replace the ENTIRE Union… and look where they are today!

Tim is peddling false hope from colorful bottles of… “’I can fix anything elixir”! The truth is… it is way more complex than that, and NO single person can have any real influence on dramatic change. It’s all campaign rhetoric to satisfy his ego and self opinion.

well they weren't for the nomination election I believe the window was 3 to 5 pm it was a total farce
Thats because nominations are part of the local lodge union meeting business and is posted in a timely manner before the meeting, that is all that is required.

If its important enough to someone, they will make sure they would be there or have a letter on file to accept nomination.

Nah, that isn't true Roabily. Two different leaders can and will have two different outcomes. The present system in this union is broke and the president and the AGC's are set up to fail. Change is needed at not only the President but we also have to update our ideas into this century. Our union is fading into irrelevancy and obsoleteness and we must have a sense of urgency and empower the masses. The symptom is that nobody even hardly shows up in the local meetings and it is time that a leadership team assess that and reach out to the membership instead of blaming them. There is a sociological reason why there is little connection between leadership and member. OTOH, I have put forth a plan and it is a plan that will bring forth urgency, activism, and a winning edge that will be productive. Right now, there hasn't been any productivity over 4 years and you need to stop blaming Canale 4 years later for no production other than LOA that support management lockouts. Cripes, Delaney doesn't even have a plan and he's the current president.

Ask the pilots who stubbornly kept their leader in there for 6 years. Is that the road you want us all to go down Roabily? Just keep insanity going? They just changed out their leader and now they have a chance to move things forward. We already know what Delaney is capable of, just look at the Hawaiain disaster or the botched UA/CO merger talks, so it makes no sense at all to continue on with such insanity since you have a potential merger at US AIRWAYS and negotiations that will hopefully start picking up other than one day meetings, once every two months.

There are sharp contrast between my style and Delaney's. He wants the membership to 'stand down' as he practices paternalisms that just don't connect in this age, I want the membership to engage by being transparent, informative, and building solidarity through the same sorta team building that I already have done when I lead a District department. Only by engaging the membership and giving them the empowerments through information and knowledge can we have a chance to move things forward. Having a membership stand down is not an option. Without changing the way this union does business and if we keep the 'good ole boy' system, then nothing else matters and you will not even remotely get a fair contract. The system is broke. It isn't working. And the reason is because the leadership refuses to engage the members and refuses to bring the members along as partners. It's a sociological concern that must be addressed and it starts with building a relationship between member and leadership. Same principles I used as a District leader over the past two years and it's quite successful when a leader gets out of his office and builds teams! What you have now is a President who hasn't cracked the Local hall in CLT since he got voted in, and an AGC who told you that "Rich was different and wouldn't just come around during elections." Well, we both know that wasn't true.

While these numbers are terrible for everyone affected, I feel especially sorry to those in LAS and have to relocate. This is not a good time to sell a house there.

And how do you suppose to change Labor Relations policy on how they are handling Step IIIs and arbitration.

That's something you wont be able to do, your selling the membership false promises.

And funny in Tim's postings, certainly a lot of "I"s in there and no we, the team, the membership.

Remember those that know Tim and his M.O. its all about Tim and has been for 20 years, he has done more harm to his coworkers at US than good.

I got the same text message. Same cities and numbers. I havent heard of any others. We were supposed to upgrade for this month but they backed off that Idea weeks ago and wouldnt say why. HMMMM

Unless one paid cash or bought a home over 15 years ago, people aren't selling homes unless it is a short-sale and the banks take several months to approve such agreements, if at all. We have the same problem in Phoenix, as well. Houses are bad, condos are worse with 80% discounts from the peak being commonly experienced. More likely to see those properties become defaults and foreclosures for those affected at LAS. Sad to think what has become of the once former hubs of LAS and PIT, and the impact upon those the people who spent decades working for the company.

I will admit in being curious to see what the cut-off DOH would be for those effected stations... I know that PIT was around 30 years during the past round of cuts. Anyone have any info?

So Sympathetizes Jester.

I'm estimating April of '95 for LAS, maybe a few months after that. Apparently Cargo is being reduced to US only. Definitely need at least 15 years.

How many Tim clones are there on here anyway? I noticed that a handful of posters here all repeatedly parrot Tim’s ideology, and distorted vision. We have argued every single item on the occupy agenda for weeks… and it is completely clear beyond a reasonable doubt that it holds little validity.

Another thing that puzzles me is Tim’s disgruntlement with the people other than Delaney at the 141. I think there may be a whole lot more to the story than what Tim is telling us regarding his relief of duties as organizer!

My question to you... orgac... blownnees... and cltrat is this... are any of you on Tim's ticket?
roability,
I am not on Tim's ticket. I am on the "Leadership for Progress" ticket. A ticket that has obtained more than enough endorsements to be on the ballot. A ticket that believes there are issues that need addressed concerning future District representation. AGC accountabilty and a members' ability to electronically track the status of their grievance to name a few. A ticket that is not going to make promises to the members that are unachievable for the sake of luring votes on pretenses. A ticket comprised of candidates from UA & US with years of involvement and experience. A ticket that niether of the other slates want to mention leading up to June. A ticket who is now just begining their campaign for support throughout the system. I am a candidate for AGC on the US Airways side of the slate. After 32 years with the company, the vast majority actively involved with the union, I was asked to run with and support this slate. I ask of you and everyone else on this post to carefully review their options in the upcoming elections.
In closing, I am deeply saddened by the company's recent announcement of more job cuts. My heart goes out to the most recent affected employees. The hardship these decisions impose on our members is disturbing to witness to say the least. I personally, am fed up with jobs and stations being lost for the benefit of the shareholders.
please stay tuned,
ograc

"US Airways

US Airways has announced the reduction of force in stations across the system. The reason given for these furloughs is a combination of schedule changes and the loss of contract work.
While all affected IAM members will have the ability to transfer to other stations, we are reviewing the announcement to determine that all contract provisions are enforced.
The impacted stations are PIT, LAS, EWR, MCO, PBI, SFO, and TPA."

Really Mr Delaney you said that before about my station and the 4 others, You even went so far as to assign and arbitrator only to bend over for the company and throw
us all under the bus. This guy is a total joke, if this were UA all hell would be breaking loose but little ole Usairways doesn't mean s*it to this guy. What are our AGC's
doing about this are they speaking up to this guy or keeping there mouths shut like the last time. Enough is enough. to those about to lose your job or have to transfer
I wish you the best . A bit of advice from someone that's been through it . DON'T TRUST WHAT YOUR AGC TELLS YOU because it's all lip service.

to roabilly I am not on tim's ticket but yes I do support what he is trying to accomplish. At least he is trying to bring back the basic fundamentals of
unionism something Delaneys stepford wifes I mean AGC's haven't. I remember back in 2008 when they came around campaigning talking about all the
changes they were going to make and for us to trust them. well here we are 4 years later and nothing has changed actually its worse. I remember my
former AGC at least returned my phone calls thats something these morons don't know how to do or think they need to do. So before you blast me
for supporting someone that wants to stop all this bull sh*t walk a day in my shoes having to commute because our elected LEADERSHIP decided WE
the membership weren't worth "the time or resources (money) " to arbitrate our case.
