Fleet Service apathy

I like your site a lot. I like your attitude and ideas. I'm a little historically skeptical on the thought of the follow through and what it would do to the current negotiations. Also proposal #13...........is that 2 positions of Director of Organizing or just a typo ?

mike33,
To be skeptical on follow through, based on the history of past district elections, is certainly understandable at this point. The election results' impact on negotiations, in my opinion, will have little, if any, effect on contract negotiations. This is by no means a statement of no confidence in our current negotiations team. It is a statement to the intent and posture of the company, regarding true contract negotiations. Let's face it, regardless of which team is elected into office, the company's position, posture and sense of urgency regarding a new CBA for Fleet will not change.
In my opinion, this election is more about a vote of confidence, or no confidence, in how we have been represented the past four years. Has the District and it's Officers (President and AGCs) done an acceptable job representing the membership and enforcing the CBAs currently in place at US and UA? Additionally, have they been vigilant in their duties to be accesible to the members by periodic station visits? I believe accountability is at hand for the past 4 years of representation under CBAs currently in place both at UA and US. I believe accountability is at hand for each elected officer of this district, for their performance to fullfill the responsibilties of the office, the past four years, to which they were elected. Again, both at US and UA. Some may past the test. Others, in my opinion, will and should not.

ograc,

Lets see if you can answer questions regarding the LfP platform.

Item 1. How will you reform the dues? Are the dues not governed by the GL? And I wish we had an electronic tracking system, and an AGC performance review 4 years ago, maybe MW wouldn't have gotten away with how he did the membership a disservice and been held accoultable for his inactions.

Item 3. What kind of salary restructuring? Pay cut or pay raise? What exactly are the realities of the industry? Are you saying that the pay for District Officers will be seniority based? Does there have to be a by-law change to accomplish this salary restrucuring?

Item 4. What is a premium contribution requirement? Will the officers be "forced to pay"?

Item 10. How exactly will you establish this? What would the structure and composition be exactly?

Item 12. How is this related to item 3? And if someone is appointed aren't they in office until the next election? So please explain how Item 3 would affect the appointee?

Wasnt MC pushed to be elected by Tim?

I knew him when he was in catering and I could have told you he wasnt AGC material and was in way over his head.

That is affirmative, he was on the N/D slate... that is why I'm not going to recommend voting 'full slate' again to anyone ever! I think we need to take our time... and choose the best candidates from all three slates!

Tim focused on ousting Canale, and our members really did not look beyond that. They were so pissed about the T/A and the rhetoric from Tim... they just followed instructions at the box... writing down choices from a pre-printed ballot suggestion!

I'm asking all members to stop and think about your choices. Do not buy into the "slate" concept... we have lot's of good union people to choose from ... so why exclude them to satisfy someones personal agenda?

I posted on the dangers of this a couple of weeks ago, UA employees might think their guys are the best or the Northeast might think they have all the best people. I think slates are put together in an attempt to represent all groups to the best of their ability and if we pick and choose this may leave US out in the cold or the southeast or midwest unrepresented.

ograc,

are you still doing research to answer the questions I posed to you about the LfP platform?

I actually agree with you here, as I never vote full slate

pjirish317,
It is evident from your post you are trying to discredit The Leadership For Progress Team and myself. I will however, attempt to answer your questions regarding our plan for progress. In an effort to keep my post brief, I will respond to a couple of your questions at this time.
Item 1 is referring to establishing a Committee to oversee AGC accountability regarding job performance and expenses. The committee will recommend areas of cost savings with the intent to reduce per capita tax. Most inportant, the committee will evaluate and report to the President on the performance of each AGC. While visiting stations, both at US and UA, AGC performance, or the lack of, is a common complaint among the members. Based on your post you seem to agree with the AGC accountability issue and the electronic grievance tracking system covered under Item 2 of the team's plan for progress. Unfortunately, your support had to be inclusive of "bashing" a candidate on the team.
I hope to answer the other questions you posted but I don't want this post taking 30 minutes to read. In closing, the Leadership For Progress plan addresses concerns of the members, both on the US and UA side, we have in common. It additionally proposes ideas for cost savings within the district. In the end the district becomes better at representing and more cost efficient.

My thinking is this… we can retain virtually ALL of the N/D slate… back fill a couple of US AGC’s to cover the loss of the two US AGC’s. Essentially, we retain the representation ratio!
I will post my opinion on the mix and match slate in week or so… I’m sure there will be some that disagree, but as long as we keep all of the existing N/D folks… what would it matter?

Has the N/D Team released the details of the slate they want to run with all of the candidates and experience? I will not know what my opinion is until I see who is filling the holes!

So you take my questions of the platform that YOU and the others on the LfP ticket have put forth as trying to disderdit? How is that exactly? What did I ask that would imply that? The only person that was mentioned in a negative light in my post was MW, and imo, for good reason. I will take your generic answer as really a non answer because everything you wrote can be found on the LfP website. You chose to run, you should be able to answer some hard questions, if you can't do that anonymously on a website, how will you handle hard questions in person? It sure does not inspire confidence. Or are you waiting for Karen to tell you how to answer?

What exactly has ND done for Fleet ?

I would like to hear the answer to this as well..........................................

And you won't get answer from My Dear Mister Roabilly, as I have asked him this same question several times myself. Instead he will break-down into a diatribe about Tim, and how everyone on this Board who dares to question ND's handling of fleet service issues are just really Tim having a conversation with himself amongst multiple handles.

It is this cult-like, true believer dedication to the failed Leadership of this organization, I cannot understand, and I keep thinking I am missing an angle in a person who, while I disagreed with on issues in the past, appeared at one time to be cogent and reasonable.

So Concurs Jester.

And who was responsible for the N/D getting elected?
Yada, yada, and anyone that gets voted in does so by promises they make prior to the election. When they don't deliver, the membership wants them out, thus the revolving door of IAM leadership...
