If we're talking NWA/ATL/Delta, we must also thank Waffle House.

And they serve bacon at both, which brings us back to Kevin Bacon.

NCAA is a dying organization. Soon enough the power 5 will break off of it.

However I don't think the unionization in college sports will take off. Things like Title IX are really going to be a limiting power in what these football (and some mens basketball) players are thinking they will change.

Start paying football and basketball players the women's rights groups are going to be knocking at the door for money for them. (even though most women's sports are costs for Athletic depts.)

*note not a shot at women, some women basketball is profitable (or at least cost neutral) but most sports in college outside of mens football, basketball and baseball are loss makers or at best cost neutral. Things like football pay for these sports. For example at UGA, football makes up right around 80% of revenue. UGAA is a football heavy dependent program, places like Kentucky are closer to 50/60% football and 30-40% from mens basketball.

Sorry, went off on a bit of a rant there.
hey, it's an intelligent contribution - which others weren't able to do.

you are not only right but we will all see how fast universities work to get rid of every opportunity before they allow their "volunteer" football players to become unionized.

they have already become unionized at Northwestern.

We will see how fast the players are able to do anything. I have a feeling the Universities will tell them piss off. Lock them out if they have too.

plenty of people willing to walk-on in exchange for a free education......

bingo.... we're on the same page on this one.

they have plenty of examples of how to accomplish what they want in the "real world" of paid employees.

not comparable at all. Outside of the screwed up airline world Unions still have a lot of power.

even in the low level schools they would basically end athletics. However at a large school like UGA I bet they could field team but someone like GSU would have a hard time with it.

However it would be pretty hard, for example, to find thousands of replacements if AT&Ts employees went on strike.

no its not. As i have been dealing with this season with a star tailback

How is it fair that Todd Gurley can't sell his own name but the NCAA can and make BILLIONS off of it (that Billions with a B)

Or do you think its fair that he gets 100K or so worth of a ship while the NCAA gets billions?

Great! So lets start paying these players, then have them reimburse their college tuition, meal ticket and room & board out of their check!

UGA and the NCAA have made Billions off of Gurley's name....please show us where you obtained this infomation!

the rate of unionization in the private sector is less than 7%.

half of union workers are in the public sector despite the public sector in the US being much smaller than the private sector.

further, states esp. in the upper midwest are taking a hard approach to mandatory unionization of public employees.

WI's governor has succeeded at fending off one challenge after another despite initiating some of the toughest reforms of a state's public workers. MI's governor has done much of the same.

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/union2.nr0.htm

there would be no problem finding replacement workers for most employees in the US.

sorry, Kev, but there isn't anything about what I wrote that is anti-worker.

I did write the truth about union performance - and your fellow Americans have wholeheartedly agreed with me.

I don't vote in WI or MI.

Citizens there could have thrown those governors out - but didn't.

Unionized public employees in those states got out when they had a chance to do so.

If unions delivered something of value, they wouldn't be doing that.

DL employees have lived and will live by the same principle. If unions can deliver more of value than what DL employees have now, a union makes sense.

DL employees have repeatedly failed to see that value - and the list of failed unionization attempts at DL shows its.

I'm not anti-worker Kevin.

I'm rooted in reality with both feet firmly planted on the ground

...a not-too-surprising conclusion by someone who has badly misread the desires of thousands of airline employees.

I am pro performance - which again is why unions, not employees, are losing.

There are millions of hard working Americans and tens of thousands of them work for airlines - but they don't want unions involved in their lives.

You do realize that the airline industry has one of the highest percentages of a unionized workforce?

you not anti worker????   what the he!! you smoking????    your posts pretty well describe it;   Secondly  there have not been as many repeated attempts as you allege   if there has been   then show it here on the board  otherwise  don't write crap in which you don't know jack sh!t
