I find it really amazing that some of the HP employees on here seem to forget that they too were in BK TWICE not so long ago. You were NO different then as US is now. HP would soon be down another rocky road if it weren't for this MERGER...not an acquisition. The stockholders of HP would NOT allow a MERGER if it were not in the best interest of SURVIVAL for AMERICA WEST. They would not risk collapsing to "save" an airline (as you claim they are doing).
