IAM Fleet Service topic

I remember a former IAM negotiator telling me that "I got all that was on the table". And said after he reviewed all of the company data from the laptop boys that the company wasn't in position to afford anything else. What he said, implicitly, was that fleet service wasn't worth any more since I already knew that the ticket counter and other groups already bargained for much much more. It's treason against the members that only fleet service has to endure being left out of profit sharing, but hey what do the UA district presidents care, it's not their money. It's not their seniority. They haven't given a rats arse about US AIRWAYS fleet service and have continued to be INCREDIBLY biased in every way, almost like they don't even give a rip. They don't!

OTOH, when I go into the UA breakrooms at ORD, I get the same questions and I remind them that I could have run unopposed for President if I had only done a half arse job against the Teamsters. Gone would have been Rich Delaney as both him and Karen would have been wished away if I had so chose. But I went 24/7 100% as the Director of Organizing, knowing full well that I was protecting Rich's Job and my other opponents, and I knew that Rich would be firing me since I knew I could no longer support him and would have to tell him. I've done some things wrong when it comes to unions but wishing the UA ramp away to the Teamsters wasn't going to be one of them.

Question concerning sick time...If I don't use any of my sick days during the year is there a way I can cash them out?

Your kidding right?

That is what I was thinking..But I have a coworker who is planning on retiring soon and he insists that he will be able to cashout his days of unused sick time. He was dead serious but I am skeptical.

No he cant cash them out, he can use them to pay for extended medical insurance, thats all.

Leading a union isn't about "I got big balls", it's an academic and cerebral exercise and it's high time that we start using our brains and surrounding ourselves with other professionals.

Anyone who wants to see organized labor adapt/survive going forward needs to read this sentence. Then read it again.

Actually you can cash them out. You have the choice of using them to supplement your Insurance after retirement at 33 hours per month. Or you can get a one time lump sum payment at 9.20 per hour for up to 1200 hours of sick time, which is up to 150 days ( 8 hr shift ). This comes out to a little over 11,ooo.oo if you have the whole 150 days. We have had a few people in clt retire and do this. Its usually the best option, instead of using 33 hours a month toward insurance, however, everyone is different and just depends on age and how many hours ,on whats the best to do. Its on pages 142 and 143 of the contract. Page 143 paragraph 2 tells you about the lump sum payment.

Once again your wrong. why don't you take your own advice "don't let the facts get in the way" you haven't been on Us property in over 7 or 8 years
plus you were a lav dumber not fleet service so would you please quit misleading people. And please don't come back with that " I was on the negotiating team for M/R
it is completely irrelevant. thanks CB for explaining OUR contract.

REMINDER for CLT FS
there will be Shop Steward Elections later this month probably the last week of JANUARY. It will be held on the property
location TBA and the times will be All Day, so both shifts will have an opportunity to vote. You will only be able to vote for
those that work on your regular schedule shift

US AIRWAYS Fleet Service Beware

Many of you may not know this but the New Direction waived off 3 years of negotiations at UA rampside and signed on to UA managements 'transition talks'. After 3 years of negotiations without obtaining any value for the members, the New Direction decided to do new surveys and then last week made a brand new opening proposal. Not surprisingly, management's proposal was a proposal that mirrored a regional airline contract, due to management's increased leverage of transition talks.

Comparing what the New Direction did to UA rampside to what the other unions received within the last 30 days indicates pure treason against the member. Before throwing away UA only talks, two other unions, i.e., AFA and IBT decided to pick up half of shared sacrifices back now so they would only have to negotiate for the other half later.

The Bottom line is this, each union, i.e., the IAM 141, the AFA, and the Teamsters are back at a new starting line. The finishing line is the same, i.e., industry leading contract. However, only the IAM has an empty tank and less leverage, as the other unions agreed to get half the tank filled. Again, 3 unions at the starting line but only two unions that came to the line with half a tank full.

US AIRWAYS should take notice because if Delaney and the New Direction botched up the UA talks so bad, you know darn well what is going to happen to your talks. If there is a merger with AMR, then your present talks is only a mirage if the new direction gets in again.

It's amazing how $100,000 makes some otherwise good members turn into bobbleheads and yes men. And it could happen to any of us, that is why it is SO IMPORTANT to support the platform of Occupy 141. That reduced compensation and the other accountability measures taken in the Occupy 141 platform should help filter out the comfy taken for granted performances of the present regime.

Your AGC's are all on here but they can't touch since they know that Delaney lied to the UA rampers when he told them before the IAM/IBT vote that he was going to finish what he started and wrap up UA only talks before going into transition. And, I know that there is some viability of going into transition IF you get something fair in return like the IBT or AFA did. Going into transition talks and scrapping 3 years of other talks is treason and the profanity of profanities. But they don't care, they aren't the ones making $20 buck an hour.

And FWIW, I'm not superman but I'll take on all 5 of the US AIRWAYS AGC's at one time in a debate, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME.

you know it's past time that someone mentioned this , but geez we need to get new baggage carts here in PHX ... sure this is a regional issue , but i want to bring it up none the less ..

Here in PHX we have two types of covered carts , the old ones from AWA days that have flat front and backs , and then we have East covered carts that have ribbed front and backs ...

The AWA ones are just done , they break down all the time and i'd say their 3 times as hard to move around as the East carts are .. I seriously think we're adding to our OJI because of the strain it's putting on our empolyee's to move the old carts , they BARELY roll , and when their completely full , good luck pulling it yourself ...

What i want to know is why we aren't getting new carts ? i think if we took a vote tomorrow most people would agree that the old AWA carts suck and that it's time for them to go ... i was watching service air and THEY have the easy to pull ribbed carts , so why don't we ?

Why risk injuring yourself?

If the equipment is inoperative, put it out of service.Pulling a full cart alone is begging for an injury, never mind the company crawling up your arse for improper practices.

we actually do put alot of them out of service , but these things are just desgined wrong ... it wasn't too long ago that i helped an able bodyed middle age man push one of these to the belt loader ( fully loaded ) and even with two of us it was still a chore ..
