Why risk injuring yourself?

If the equipment is inoperative, put it out of service.Pulling a full cart alone is begging for an injury, never mind the company crawling up your arse for improper practices.

On the phx ramp, they have pulled full carts around for years. Mainly it is fear of management and peer pressure. There are not enough bag tugs around to do it, anyways. I've known many phx rampers to blow out knees and discs this way. Thankfully, I am an eastie now and we don't do these things.

Worse yet, the covered carts (especially with the shelves) which are much heavier, versus uncovered carts. However, most rampers stacking abilities are suspect, I think the ramp would be littered with bags falling from those uncovered carts too, if that's what was only available. LAS isn't using their carts anymore, but they are uncovered, but rampers would just need to learn to stack better, which I do not see a problem in the desert where is barely rains. Sometimes the carts, especially if there a grade to work against, are nearly unmovable, so I either wait for a runner to hook-up, or if really desperate, I'll go against company policy and use an available aircraft tug.

That's part of the problem with Management, they demand we get the planes out on time, but fail to provide the tools to do our job efficiently and safely.

So Reviews Jester.

All of the crappy carts in LAS were taken out of the station during our downsizings. I think some went to a company in Mexico and others to various stations. They all worked (pretty much) but some of them, especially the ones with the wide tapered yokes, were only manageable. Our problem was moving them around without tugs. Back in the day I remember pulling a cart full of bags myself as a lead uphill on B9 and 10.

Oh I know how that goes, believe me.

Funny how they'll look the other way when it suits them, but then other times they'll bring the full bureaucratic weight of policy and procedure to bear on you for any deviation at all.

you know it's past time that someone mentioned this , but geez we need to get new baggage carts here in PHX ... sure this is a regional issue , but i want to bring it up none the less ..

Here in PHX we have two types of covered carts , the old ones from AWA days that have flat front and backs , and then we have East covered carts that have ribbed front and backs ...

The AWA ones are just done , they break down all the time and i'd say their 3 times as hard to move around as the East carts are .. I seriously think we're adding to our OJI because of the strain it's putting on our empolyee's to move the old carts , they BARELY roll , and when their completely full , good luck pulling it yourself ...

What i want to know is why we aren't getting new carts ? i think if we took a vote tomorrow most people would agree that the old AWA carts suck and that it's time for them to go ... i was watching service air and THEY have the easy to pull ribbed carts , so why don't we ?

Well, they just outsourced the station I worked at today, so maybe they can squeeze it into the budget to get some new carts for ya out there in PHX! While I stand in the unemployment line, they can pony up the $$ they are saving from not employing me to start a "cart fund".

US AIRWAYS Fleet Service Beware

Many of you may not know this but the New Direction waived off 3 years of negotiations at UA rampside and signed on to UA managements 'transition talks'. After 3 years of negotiations without obtaining any value for the members, the New Direction decided to do new surveys and then last week made a brand new opening proposal. Not surprisingly, management's proposal was a proposal that mirrored a regional airline contract, due to management's increased leverage of transition talks.

Comparing what the New Direction did to UA rampside to what the other unions received within the last 30 days indicates pure treason against the member. Before throwing away UA only talks, two other unions, i.e., AFA and IBT decided to pick up half of shared sacrifices back now so they would only have to negotiate for the other half later.

The Bottom line is this, each union, i.e., the IAM 141, the AFA, and the Teamsters are back at a new starting line. The finishing line is the same, i.e., industry leading contract. However, only the IAM has an empty tank and less leverage, as the other unions agreed to get half the tank filled. Again, 3 unions at the starting line but only two unions that came to the line with half a tank full.

US AIRWAYS should take notice because if Delaney and the New Direction botched up the UA talks so bad, you know darn well what is going to happen to your talks. If there is a merger with AMR, then your present talks is only a mirage if the new direction gets in again.

It's amazing how $100,000 makes some otherwise good members turn into bobbleheads and yes men. And it could happen to any of us, that is why it is SO IMPORTANT to support the platform of Occupy 141. That reduced compensation and the other accountability measures taken in the Occupy 141 platform should help filter out the comfy taken for granted performances of the present regime.

Your AGC's are all on here but they can't touch since they know that Delaney lied to the UA rampers when he told them before the IAM/IBT vote that he was going to finish what he started and wrap up UA only talks before going into transition. And, I know that there is some viability of going into transition IF you get something fair in return like the IBT or AFA did. Going into transition talks and scrapping 3 years of other talks is treason and the profanity of profanities. But they don't care, they aren't the ones making $20 buck an hour.

I would say this will surely set USairways negotiations back a few more steps.

Sorry to here about your city being outsourced. What city was outsourced?

Tim, long time not hearing from you, Dan from pit. back in the good old days. Soooooo what do you hear about pit for 2012???
Dan, how the heck are ya?

PIT has been dying over the past several years. Not sure how many are left but alot of the former 1,300 rampers there are still around in other stations.

This is in conjunction with the announcement made Sept. 1, 2011. Jan 8, 2012 was the drop-dead day for several cities in the system including: MSY, BUF, IND, OAK, SNA, MHT, ABQ. LAS also experienced further downsizing back in the Fall. I am SURE there is another list of cities to be announced anytime now, since this company is so eager to reduce Fleet Service to only Hub cities or larger operation cities. The chop-shop is alive and kickin' and comin to a city near you! Beware! If you like your job enough to keep, head to a Hub.

Good to hear back from you tim,I retired last year after being layed off after thirty years, it is what it is. There is only about thirty some full time agents left on the ramp here so I hope they don't announce another cut this year but parker seems to have a hard on for pit. If you hear anything about my boys in pit let me known. Nice hearing from you again so stay in contact.

Buffalo employees were escorted out on December 21 by Corporate Security and a few managers from around system because the company was afraid the four original Union stations would try something over the holidays. What a class act. By the way on January 12, tomorrow the Company and IAM are suppose to meet in Manhattan for an Arbitration due to the fact that BUF, IND,and MSY shouldn't have been farmed out till after April, per the contract. Of course all three steps were shot down by the company. Another little tidbit of info from the Union...supposedly Parker gave a gentlemens agreement and handshake that no one will be layed off during negotiations.

Handshakes seem to be the only thing this union can get, regardless of property. But one thing we know because of evidence, is that these cats allow the leadership to lie through their teeth and turn handshake agreements into goofy contracts like the bonehead moronic Hawaiian airline contract that sold those members out after lying to them all. The New Direction has several bought off guys who used to be ok but were bought and branded as they all praise Delaney. 5 more months of stupid. And as bad as things are, they are better than the other terrible UA president that 141 had. Sheesh, US AIRWAYS needs to stop being second best with this district. More AGC's are needed to be comparable to UA per capita. Delaney said he was going to do it and he lied, so now the Occupy 141 team will finish the job.

The political group, Occupy 141, within IAM 141 that is challenging the New Direction can now be followed at its website, facebook or twitter.
