Here's my 2 cents or $1.98 in todays money...As one who was thrown out in the street on January 9th, I can only say I am bitter and full of hate towards USAir but especially for the IAM. Let me start by saying I supported the IAM for many years. I looked the other way when they reduced Mtc and Utility..hell it was more jobs for Fleet..today I am deeply sorry for that and apologize. I saw good friends at NW being thrown out in the street and was upset for them but said that will never happen to USAir fleet. Later, I saw USAir fleet in places like CMH,ALB,ILM and others being shown the door, again it did'nt effect me and I didn't care, again I APOLOGIZE. My point that I'm trying to make people is to watch your backs. Dougie and Isom say its financial but it has nothing to do with money...they want to break up and get rid of the union and the IAM is just standing there with their finger up where the sun don't shine and letting them. In my opinion, it doesn't stop with Delaney but goes higher to Roach and Buffenberger, for some reason it seems all they want to represent is Boeing and United and the rest of us are scum just lining their pockets. All of these jobs that were lost for the past 8 years should have been fought for just like the IAM is fighting to stop the non union Boeing plant in South Carolina, but for some reason, they won't. My opinion is that the IAM has fallen prey to the good ole boys club with the airlines and this has to stop..they have to support their membership. It starts with little things like the pocket size contract books that we were suppose to get,(that was in the contract,) that we never got. Negotiations should have been stopped when it was announced that 5 cities would be farmed out January 9, supposedly, Dougie gave a hand shake agreement to the union nobody would be touched during negotiations. The five cities should have never been farmed out until after April instead of settling for $30 a month additional pension for some, the membership involved weren't even asked if the settlement was OK. There should be a Union day where everyone wears a union Tshirt or hat one day a week to show solidarity. I'm gone (wish I wasn't) so now its up to the people working to stick it to the buffoons in Tempe and demand GOOD union representation..no the BEST union representation. I've done enough ranting and had to get this off my chest and now must get back to looking for a job. Good luck to all.

Responding to Ograc's question about who proofed the the CBA.

I'm not sure if anyone proofread it. If so, then whoever was responsible had a 4th grade education.

And Ograc agreed.

How could I possibly have 'misinterpreted' that to mean anyone insinuated a lack of education was involved?

Carry on.

Roach is no longer GVP of Transportation, it is now Sito Pantoja, I know Sito, he is a good man, a former TW Mechanic from NY. And Boeing and the IAM just got a new CBA and dropped the fight about the SC plant. And Roach was a ramper at TW who is college educated.

Bottom line is no organization is perfect, but the fleet members, let this happen to themselves, the majority of the membership doesnt care until it effects them.

People need to take personal responsibility and get involved.

I was a rep for M&R and I was away from my home and son many many nights, but that was the price to pay to try and help the membership.

Until people start voting with their wallets and not hot button topics, nothing will change, we need to change the people in power in Washington, and all over the US, the right has declared war on the working class people and no one really cares or does anything about it.

Its time to take control and have laws that level the playing field and not have them in favor of the company.

Mechanic... Attorney... what's the difference? Maybe he could have done dentistry from his garage on the weekends too?

And Roach was a ramper at TW who is college educated.
I am college educated too... that doesn't mean I am qualified to review labor contracts.

Bottom line is no organization is perfect, but the fleet members, let this happen to themselves, the majority of the membership doesnt care until it effects them.
There is a fair amount of anti-intellectualism and distrust amonst the union against those who are white collar and educated, and we were told that our trust should be placed with those who worked with us, instead of those with the formal training and education. Now are we to blame the membership who trusted those who promised much, but delivered little because they were our workplace friends or do we blame those who don't have enough sense to get out of the way and let professionals do their jobs and step down from their cushy salaries?

The best of intentions will not overcome the lack of abilities. You surely wouldn't want me to repair a jet engine, no matter how well are my intentions, especially when I start asking, "Where do you put the flint?" We should expect better from those who represent us, regardless of their most dedicated and sincere intentions.

So Remands Jester

I know nothing about Pantoja, but was anything but a fan of Roach's.

Not for nothing, but what's the deal w/2 ex-TW people holding high offices? Where are the UA/US/AS/HA/WN people? (just a rhetorical question)

Kev,

I have to agree, I was part of 142 and was a rep and on the NC, I dont get how most of DL 142 is AA employees who were former TW, if the airline you work/worked for is no longer part of the IAM, you should be removed from office.

I like Sito, he has the attack attitude, never was a fan or Roach either, he sold us M&R out at US, I dont want to post it on here, but if you want to know PM me.

There are GCs from US/WN/CO/COEX/WN on the DL 142 E-Board, but I agree, if your no longer IAM, you should finish out your term, and be gone.

Oh and Jester, I watched Fleet at US vote down a union a few times, and it even still took three years for fleet to unionize after the company pillaged them.

Apathy and lack of involvement erodes solidarity. We should know by now the consequences of the lack of solidarity. We have experienced them.

Jester,

I would think this would qualify him:

Robert started in the IAM as a ramp serviceman for TWA and a member of Local Lodge 1056 in New York. Soon after, he transferred to Local Lodge 1445 in Newark, NJ. He was elected as a shop steward in 1976 and served as Grievance Committee Chairman from 1979 through 1992.

Robert held other offices in Local Lodge 1445, including trustee, vice president and president.

In 1984, he was elected District Lodge 142 trustee and also served as coordinator for the District's Human Rights Committee. Robert became a District 142 General Chairman in 1992.

In 1994, Robert was appointed Transportation Department Special Representative and a Grand Lodge Representative (GLR) in 1996. From GLR, Robert became General Vice President of the Transportation Department on June 1, 1999.

Robert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Labor and Management Relations at the Empire State Labor College and is a graduate of the Labor Studies program at the Cornell School of Labor.

700..if you kmow Sito so well, why not give him a call and inform him whats going on. Maybe he might want to get off his butt and do something for his money before more people are out on the street looking for jobs....

You can e-mail Spantoja@iamaw.org

Also the District is the one in charge of enforcing the CBA.

What does the language in your CBA say about station staffing?

If the CBA is violated you have to file a grievance and its the district's responsibility to move it forward and fight it.

700, umm, exramper did have a grievance and Delaney told all of us in the messenger that he was fast tracking it to arbitration due to management's closure of stations 'prematurely' [Delaney's own words, not mine]. Then Delaney flipped like a pancake and lied. He went into secret talks and signed a LOA that supports managements continual lock out of BUF employees. The dope even signed off that he would not hold management responsible as ASIG continues to do the work. The BUF members were given black garbage bags for their 30+ years of service and 600 hours into their pension.
Each AGC supported it even those who went on TV and stomped their feet for the cameras.

Question for 700 or exramper. At what point in the year do the members get credit for another year in the IAM pension fund? I don't believe it is a rolling year but I want to clarify.

Tim,

I honestly dont know, I would e-mail Tom Regan, if you need is e-mail address PM me.

And there needs to be a district bylaw to remove officers or GCs/AGCs who fail the membership, a recall.

And maybe the district needs a new structure.

At 142, we had five GCs for US and one of them was the coordinator and was in charge of all things in regards to US, maybe that needs to be done at 141 and remove the PDGC from grievance work if he is not from that carrier and negotiations.

yeah I know Tommy well and could ask him. I couldn't agree more with some of your suggestions.

edit: got my answer. full year credit for vesting, and 5 months credit for future service credit.

Tim, you have to have 1600 hours (40 weeks) to be eligible for 1 year of pension which is $80.00 a month. They deduct for leaves of absence and get the hours from the company which a few people have found wrong..thank you USAir...
