well ive been gone a bit from posting things but here is something that all brothers and sisters need to think about, and maybe we need to send the company a message. The company thinks it is ok to do our work in phx. from marshaling in aircraft and transporting bags. i think our fellow brothers and sisters from the east need to walk into phx and take care of business with these clowns. im tired of this sh*t just like this flex crap. im out!
Confront whoever it is, fill out an irreg report with the who what and where, make two copies and keep the original. Give one to HS upstairs and one to a union rep. I totally agree with you on this but without documentation it didn't happen. If the manager thinks no one cares or knows no one's going to report him or her they'll see no reason to stop.

More than anything I think they're desperate not to have to fill out reports on delays/missed bags/whatever with their name on it, considering how easily the axe swings among them. It's possible that management might just blow off complaints about them doing union work, but when they want a reason to fire or replace one of their own they'll probably be reaching for the fatter files...

And yeah flex is a big pain in the butt but on the other hand it's good to see more flights in and out of PHX.

What is this flex schedule you are talking about?

Rogue

It's basically two extra banks tagged on to the end of every day, one westbound just before midnight and one eastbound just before 1 AM. There are also some additions to complexes 8 and 11, I think it adds up to about 35 total flights.

well PHX did have some some East muscle in the AGC ranks, but the local GC didn't work with him and actually did some good ole fashion politics and got burn. So the District gave PHX what they wanted
and that was one of there own RR.. Bottom line YOU need to file grievances PERIOD.. the East gets paid for management doing our work. Maybe the GC needs to educate its membership and shop stewards on
the grievance procedure. I doubt though you will get much help out of them. It seems Dale S has them right where he wants them.

WTF is an irregularity report? Don’t you guys know how to file formal Grievances and exercise your rights under the Grievance Procedure?

Management doing Fleet Service work is a clear scope violation! Grieve it properly each and every single time it is observed.

Note the time and location, and get the offender(s) name along with written reports from any witnesses!

You have five (5) days to submit your case, so have it well documented… cell phone pix of the offense are good to include if available… catch um’ in the act!

mr roabilly you don't understand we DON'T have any leadership in phx. I know this doesn't happen in vegas because we have a strong committee unlike the company boys they have in phx

It doesnt take leadership to make a member file a grievance, its each union member's responsibility to enforce the contract, they job they might give away can be their own one day.

Perhaps you guys should look at electing real LEADERS!

Do you have any candidates that would have the testicular fortitude to fulfill that role?

Naw man.

I brought this very issue up to the chair of our Grievance Committee and a grievance was not even suggested. So I agree.

Most of the phx rampers are scared/grateful just to keep their jobs in this economy. They don't want to have hostility and unneeded heat towards them from the supervisors if they speak out on something. I haven't seen any sups doing work besides maybe picking up an occasional fallen bag on the runway to move it out of harms way, so what.

Scared? Scared of what?

Please go to your contract... (that is if you guys even know you have one) and read Article 1, Section B.

No employee covered by this agreement will be interfered with, restrained, coerced, or discriminated against by the Company, its officers or agents, because of membership in or lawful activity on behalf of the Union.

Yes that may be the case but there is always the "gray" area. Get on the sups bad side and you'll be on the busiest gates with the heaviest flights. Or be put on a team with the worst people. I'm not saying its not important to speak up, just gotta be careful for the aftermath.

Then the company would be in violation of the CBA, those actions you described above would be consider retaliation.

That's about how it works... set the ramper up for failure and then riding them hard through a series of write-ups to "prove" that employee to be discharged with cause. I think it is more of a psychological game when the stress of the job leads to illness (more write-ups), oversleeping and being late for work (more write-ups), and maybe going off on a supervisor verbally which leads to eventually being escorted from the property (the final write-up). A manager may have a tough time "proving" one to be a lazy worker, but a manager can prove someone called in sick or late, and that is easy to quantify and solid grounds for termination.

I figure to pick my battles on issues for which even a management hack can understand the supervisor or manager to be completely unreasonable instead of some gray areas which a reasonable person could side the management. We are being paid to work flights, even with the additional banks, so an argument against the additional work becomes suspect.

So Advises Jester.

I know that is how some people in PHX view how they would be treated if they speak up but if you were put on the gates with the heaviest flights every day I would document that and come to a Union rep to grieve. I would be happy to fight harassment if it were documented. I speak up every day and don't get the crappy assignments. Think about it, if everyone spoke out or grieved violations you all couldn't be assigned the crappy jobs.

Pfft...they're barely capable of getting all the of gates and flights covered as it is, especially during transition. Having to keep track of which individuals need specialized vindictive treatment on which shifts is secondary to having enough bodies on certain gates at certain times, not to mention how often flights change gates. I do my job right and I do it well, if they want to mess with that then they're making their own problems.

So let's say I see one of our dapper and nicely-dressed managers trying to "help" by doing work they're contractually forbidden to do; it sticks in my craw and I wish to grieve it. What specific steps do I take to get a grievance filed? Am I correct in assuming I'm allowed to grieve every specific incident I witness? And out of curiosity, about how many grievances related to this issue were filed in 2010 in PHX?
