Inflight Service--Is the snack basket dead or dying?

NO, NO !!! Not the snack basket !!!!

Foam the Runway !!!

I love it!! Great post. And,also, just kidding...how the heck am I going to EAT as a crewmember if that basket goes away??? Then again...maybe I could stand to lose 10lbs! Best to all of our paying pax..I hope we keep the perks. Greeter.

I like your idea of "Experiencing" what the customer goes through......it would make this Airline and any other (with the exception of swa, cause they already think they are so grreat  ) see The Big Picture. The Days of ME defending STUPID/IDIOT policies is L-O-N-G OVER. Mr. Colodny was the epitome of a Chief Executive and his type is Far and Few between. SAVE THE SNACK BASKET!!Forget about capturing OSAMA, KEEP the Biscotti & XOXOs

Astrolounge,

Thank you. I think the executives get too focused on pie charts and grafts. Certainly, that information is important to runnning a business. But customer satisfaction is a bigger factor in keeping those pies and charts on the right side.

The view from the middle seat of coach is the best way to understand our product and our cusstomers needs!

And should that middle seat be on Satan's Chariot (Those lovely 737's) life isn't so great and when the hop is more than 1hour your butt isn't feeling so great either  BTW, THINK BASKET! Carbohydrate gut filling, hip widening, people smiling SNACK BASKET!

i appreciate the humor we can attach to something as seemingly insignificant as a snack basket, but, look how important this "insignificant" item is to some of those who pay to spend as much time on our aircrafts as the employees...
this issue, this thread, is a lot bigger than any one snack basket!!!

I can assure you the F/C snack basket is F-A-R from insignificant to both F/A's and the pax.....as a measure of protesting the thought of eliminating the basket, I recommend that ALL F/C pax send their empty snack packaging to Tempe to let them know....one stupid idea generates another. In regards to "insignificant" my money is still on the Heritage Circle.....didn't like it when the idea was unveiled and I can bet the customer could CARE LESS!

I agree.. but I also think they should slightly raise salaries and get rid of space available travel. Reduced rate positive space travel for employees to give them the same perspective. Also, airlines should open up a travel department and have executives pay for their travel on their own airline.

AND I'VE been waiting to ask this: can the onboard defibrillator work on a dying snack basket?

My take on the snack basket is this. If fares in FC are lower, eg <$800 transcon, then I won't beef about no snack basket.

But where they are, there had better be a full course meal and decent food, and a snack basket, and free booze.

Hard to believe that the three bags of chips I eat cost LCC more than $1.

I agree bofie... but regarding the cost... it's not in the chips, it's in deliverying them to you at 30,000 feet.

I like the idea of using the defib on the snack basket......"Stand back" ...."Push to Shock!" What it all comes down to is if Continental can still offer meals in Coach and post profits there is No One in hell who is going to convince me that the F/C snack basket brakes the bank. Most F/C customers don't expect a meal on flights under an hour but being offered a variety of snack choices isn't asking for much.

Hey can anyone compare our service with the other LCC's that we are competing with, Service for service?

sky high states: OK, ALL these LCC's:
ATA
Airtran
Song
Frontier
Jetblue
Southwest
Ted
.....HAVE ALL COACH AND/OR SEVERAL HAVE NAMED IT, BUSINESS CLASS, COACH PLUS, SPIRIT PLUS.......ETC. PERHAPS A "NEW" NAME FOR THE SEATS UP FRONT IS IN ORDER FOR "US"?

Now compare fares between city pairs where we compete with the other big 5. We charge just about the same for our f/c as they do yet we offer much less as far as ameneties and inflight service. Why choose US then? Always a follower and never a leader.

As small as it is, the snack basket is importtant to me. While it is more than NW currently offers, and about the same as DL selections. Little things like the sanck basket make a big difference. Since I don't drink, glasses are unimportant to me, but I do like how real glass keeps my water colder, and it will do the same for beer, and booze I assume.

Once this little "treat" goes away, Who knows what I'll do with my business. Everybody is cutting back, so why can US be like CO and offer more, and get more business.

One of the many reasons I choose US this week is that it had full sized aircraft on all four legs of my trip. That is how I choose airlines, and NW was the only other one on the routing that had rals planes, CO,DL,& UA had RJs.

The flight wasn't cheap either $950.00 RT MHT-BUF-MHT, and for that fare, I should have something more than trail mix, and since I'm not a gronola cruncher, it is even less appealing.

Long and short of it, the snack basket is a small item, that can make a big difference in FF choice of airlines.
