What's new

Just Heard from Tempe...

You can still get a decent studio apt in the Boston area for under $800.00 a month if you want to live alone.

Even if,
When you make what a bottom wage east f/a makes, your housing to income ratio won't work.

Welcome to the recallees. Just bring some money with you!

when was the last drug test you took
LOL.. I'm from Boston and know the area well. A good friend of mine is a realtor and often has studio apts available for about $800.00 in decent areas of the city.

Check out the North Shore. Salem, Gloucester, Essex. Great sea food, fishing, beaches. Hold on to your hat in the winter though.

They went as far as April of 2001 which is one class shy of mine to fill the vacancies. My friend bid for BOS and he was # 60, with still another class after ours.

Was told 40 recalls were not needed to BOS but after the 39 changed their minds last time, Tempe decided if 15 didn't show up, they'd still have the staff needed in BOS.

Shows there still are people, even that have been gone this long that wish to return. So much for reaching the bottom of the list!
Tell your friend to be sure to do the math before he/she decides to return. In BOS, once it is properly staffed, if you fly your 85 hours per month X $20 bucks an hour, then you make $1700 bucks. Say you fly 4 -21.5 hour four days to get that time, you'll get about $500 bucks per diem. Now you are up to $2200.00 bucks per month. Take out taxes at 28% and that's $616 bucks so you are to live on $1584.00 per month. If you get one of those studios for $800 bucks, I hope that you can survive on $784 to pay for food, electic, parking, car, etc.

Not to be a wet blanket because there is the cash cow program (but you are at the mercy of someone signing up for a credit card)and ETB trips ---which if you do a 2 day on your off days can throw an extra $400 bucks your way----HOWEVER, with the new 24 hours off in 7 days policy it is very difficult for RSVs to be legal for ETB trips. I know there used to be a fight for the trips, now you have to move days, beg C/S to even get a trip that you are legal for.

There are so many things to consider before returning....especially if you multiply $2200 (before taxes) X 12 months and get $26,400....as I said above, then call in Uncle Sam and the high cost of living in BOS.

The job just doesn't pay what it used to and you work more days, have less sick and vacation for all the glamour....plus this company is being run the worst than it has been in YEARS.........or should I say EVER.

Just some food for thought to help you decide and make an educated decision. I hope that helps. The company certainly won't own up to this..... Good Luck !! And if you or your friend do decide to come back, welcome....we certainly do need you around here !!!!!!

Tis!

LAS people only sit reserves and are run to the ground to board flights only to be taken by late arriving crew. they average at the most 50 hrs. a month. But they are also extended too much too.

Hot RSVs in PHX get either extended or a trip 5 minutes prior to release.

Always asking for volunteer fly when they still allow autos (lineholders dropping last turn on pairing) and Standby Rsvs are in bed sleeping with nothing to do.

They take people that are good for 2+ days and put them on turns and they take people good for one day and give them 2-day trips and take their DO away.

They (we) are treated with disdain, like bad children. Schedulers (most, not all though, there are one or two nice ones) talk down to you like you are trash.

Yes, but also remember that the LAS Reserve base is voluntary - everyone is there of their own accord and absolutely nobody forced there nor forced to remain there. Those requesting the base know exactly what they will face. There are several LAS FAs that could hold a line in PHX and custom their own schedule, yet they appear to prefer the Hot Reserve lifestyle that LAS offers. Almost half of the base are new hires with about a year of service, most being recruited from Las Vegas.

If you are PHX based are you being used for Hot Reserve more than two to three times a month? The average appears to be two, with each being a five hour shift based on your time preference, sometimes extended to seven hours depending on the operation.

There is an active and empathetic Reserve Committee at your disposal should you feel that you or your contract are being absused.

Yes they are empathetic, however with the person in charge of scheduling in the west, the concerns fall of deaf ears. The management in scheduling leaves A LOT to be desired!

It's possible - BUT, here's an example of what you get for $825 - it's not in any ghetto:

This place is about 7 mi from the airport in an area of hospitals and parks.

I live in the boston area and I dont go to mission hill, when is the last time you rode the green line? the always late and no room on the cars green line then you got to ride the blue line, just read what you belive and tap your heels 3x theres no place like home, this city is a culture shock if you are not from the east coast

So what is the relative seniority of these flight attendants that sit reserve in LAS? Are they junior or more senior folks that bid it to be in their hometown? How many are there?

You're Joking right? "Fly it and Grieve it" is the common response. You call that empathetic? whenever the "Reserve Committee" has a meeting, they discuss the same issues, and come up with the same results. . . which is "we have to look into it". Nothing changes though.

I've written our "Union" about inadequacies in Scheduling only to be completely ignored (no response)

PHX hot, some months I have sat 4 weeks straight. We don't have the same regs as the East allowing no more than 4.

Preference? Just that Preference! Do you get it? sometimes. Alot you don't. As a matter of fact, my preference is A (early am) and I am sitting hot at 0100.

Yes, all LAS are voluntary, some were hired for it. I knew what I was getting myself into. But we are wasting peoplepower here. We are short staffed but people in LAS just sit in an office all day.

One last thing about LAS ... Alot of very senior people, but they have other things going on. I have a year and am in the middle. Nice people though

Sorry about long rant.

For July there are 21 LAS based Flight Attendants. 8 would have held a line in PHX. The remainder would have Reserve lines in PHX with hire dates of 2004 or later. 9 were hired in 2006.
