ANDERSON

You're 100% right about that... Anderson leaving United Health for DAL was all part of the NWA/DL merger plan. Richard Anderson has some very strong connections at NWA. Doug Steenland will be out the door asap.

NWA GOLDEN SHARE / CAL MERGER

The ONLY reason UAL is part of the talks, is in order to resolve the "Golden Share" issue that NWA holds over CAL. It will either be a cash transaction, assets or routes that NWA & DL will seek from UAL for it's approval of a UAL/CAL merger. Routes and assets may be offered instead of cash in order to satisfy the balance sheet and keep the investers financial exposure at a minimun with UAL.

LHR slots.

NewHamp,

What makes you think this? Right now you probably could NOT get 500 union authorization cards signed out of 4000 DAL mechanics. Are the scab mechanics blanketed under any union contract? If not, and trying to get Dal amts onboard for a union, well, you'd probably have an easier time getting to Kansas by clicking your heels 3 times while saying there's no place like home!

Got any numbers?

Is there a site that you can possibly provide that will give a NW contract breakdown on who's covered and what positions?

While I'm not sure about getting the TOTAL F/a's of a NW/DL unionized, I'll grant you, that "maybe" the TOTAL AMT's will go union.

For sure, the TOTAL ramp WILL go IAM.
Here's why,
While DL is a much larger outfit than NW, And NW reduced the number of ESE's(rampers) with the last contract, DL, on the other hand, has a LOT of DL stations "staffed" with their "spin-off" group of rampers(whose name escapes me at the moment). So it's conceivable that NW Has as many "REAL" rampers, as DL has.
A sort of MSP/DTW + ATL/CVG
One thing for NW ESE's to WATCH OUT for, is if Andersen tries to Include the NON Union DL "fake" rampers w the REAL rampers, with the objective of assuring that the TOTAL(new) ramp stay Non-Union.

Though NW F/a's/pilots BALKED at walking out, while Steenland was "jamming it" to them, I get a Strong feeling that the NW ESE's WOULD "take a hike", over this hypothetical situation !

I don't know why you are pushing something that is so patently false. The golden share goes away when NW either buys or sells a 25%+ interest in another airline. So when/if DL and NW hook up, there is no golden share to negotiate over . . .

Wrong...

From CO's annual report:

The Series B preferred stock is redeemable by us at a nominal price under the following circumstances:
Northwest Airlines, Inc. or certain of its affiliates transfers or encumbers the Series B preferred stock;
Northwest Airlines Corporation or certain of its affiliates experiences, or enters into a definitive
agreement that will result in, a “change of controlâ€￾ as defined by the certificate of designations
establishing the Series B preferred stock;
Our alliance with Northwest Airlines Corporation terminates or expires (other than as a result of a
breach by us); or
Northwest Airlines Corporation or certain of its affiliates materially breaches its standstill obligations
to us or triggers our rights agreement.

And "change of control" was defined as selling or acquiring 25%+ ownership . . .

HEY you RED TAILS.

A GOOD point was made, over on the DL board.

Despite Steenland trying to "sell out" to Anderson/DL/ATL......The chairman of the Aviation sub committee.....Jim Oberstar, Is a BULL DOG, when it comes to "messing with NW", and ESPECIALLY any attemt to pull jobs(think HDQ's) out of MSP.

THAT,...may be why DL is keeping UAL around for a ..."plan B", because the Illinois delegation could'nt launch a formidible squawk about ORD, because of AA.

Something to peruse !!!!!!!!!!!!

I really don't think there is much chance of the AMT's going union. After the breakdown of AMFA at NW how many AMT's are directly on the payroll? Don't count the Swissport guys.

I agree with 2BlacknBlue. I don't think there is much union support among the 4000 DL mechanics. Sure among the outstations support might be high, but not ATL. The hangar and shops are dead set against it. None of them can give a good argument why. When I was there they saw no reason for having a voice. With the way AMFA handled NW, and the lack of support from ALPA just reinforced the union fear at DL. If DL has half a brain they will intergrate only on DOH. Otherwise the fence sitters will sign and someone will represent DL mechanics. My latest bet is with the Teamsters.

Yes, I (now) think you make a Good point in this regard.

I'm starting to think, that with my post, just above your's (#24), that the ONLY way NW "dances", is if they are the survivor, OR at the Very least, zero jobs/flights are not LOST out of MSP.

Bulldog. Like how he helped the mechanics and flight attendants....

Correct.."tech'..he didn't do SQUAT in that regard,.........But.....NW was in no danger of "leaving MSP"
IMHO, that is a significant difference.

We'll see how far that goes when DAL comes knocking.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, your right "tech", ultimately, "time will tell"
Correct me if I'm wrong.
I think AA is the only airline that ever "considered" taking a run at BIG RED(Crandall once, then Carty)
In both cases, AA would'nt part with the $$$ "doe-ray-me".
I do know that Oberstar was successful in congress at "scaring away"a few potential/possible mergers and acquisitions.
IF DL does "come a callin', this will prove very Interesting.
Then again, I tell myself that perhaps NO ONE knows this Better(Oberstar) than Anderson, and I've got a STRONG feeling, that BEFORE Anderson left UHC for DL, that ALL these (many) possible scenarios were gone "over and over and over"
The VERY fact that RA was brought in...from the Outside, LEAPFROGGING several DL "good ol' boys", is in itself AMAZING !
