Yeah. When I was hired on at AWA US Airways was furloughing..... again! Clearly on its way out. AWA was growing, hiring, expanding, buying new aircraft. Their base was/is in a place most people wish to retire to. They had the best safety record, the best training, and some of the nicest people in the airline industry. The pay was less than other airlines but the work rules were far better. Quality of life goes a long way in this industry.
I turned FEDEX down when i realized i couldn't do nights. Turned down Northwest after getting stuck in MSP during a blizzard when I went to interview - I won't commute and wouldn't want to live in MSP or DTW. Quality of life goes a long way in this industry.
Like many of my peers at AWA I really don't have to live the rest of my life with the humiliating realization that the very BEST I could ever have achieved was getting hired by the very worst dirtbag airline in the industry. I simply chose quality of life over a bigger paycheck.
I never once considered AWA a dirtbag operation but ALWAYS considered US Airways a dirtbag operation because I was born and raised on the east coast and that simply was common knowledge amongst the population.
You eastholes are so full of yourselves and for the life of me I can't understand why. You just gotta love it!
