Because that is what the world looked like for Mr. Odell and Mr.
Colello, if anyone were to have asked Mr. Odell whether he would trade places with Mr. Colello
on that day in May, he would have thought the questioner either was from another planet or, at a
minimum, that he plainly did not understand the airline industry in the United States. Simply
put, in May 2005, Dave Odell had significantly brighter career expectations than Dean Colello.
When this case is stripped to its bare essentials, everything follows from that one key,
indisputable fact. Because Dave Odell and the pilots near him on the America West seniority list
had significantly brighter prospects for career advancement than Dean Colello and pilots near
him on the US Airways seniority list, the starting point for the integrated list must be one that
protects those West pilots’ superior up-side career expectations by giving them places on the
integrated seniority list ahead of Dean Colello and the other furloughed East pilots who had far
dimmer career expectations.
More drivel from the Cactuspilots and their Nicolau musings. All falsehoods. Collello will upgrade faster than Dave O Dell, yet he will be followed shortly thereafter by Dave, far ahead of PHX rep Dave Simmons.
