Union elections and the RLA....POLL!

Should union elections under the RLA be like every other election where you can vote YES/NO and the

  • YES

    Votes: 1 100.0%
  • NO

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters
    1
Airline management and anti-union political figures want the procedure to stay the same
because they know how hard it is to win a union election in the transportation industry.
How about if we keep the current way of
voting but let's have everyone start out as a YES vote instead of a NO, and only those who
don't want the union should vote to cancel out the YES?

What? The transportation industry is already (and has been for decades) highly unionized, how is it "harder"??? What a uneducated and ridiculous statement.

And therein lies your answer..."decades."
Your homework assignment is to do a historical compare and contrast of previous airline union elections with the Delta election of today. We'll narrow it down to your specialy craft/class--FAs.
1. When did FAs at United, American, and Northwest first unionize?
2. How many FAs did these individual airlines employ when they were first unionized? (anywhere near the 20,500 at DL today?)
3. What were the demographics of those groups? (Hint: You couldn't be over 32 and married and commuting and leave-taking weren't yet on the horizon).
4. How come when things were so rosy in the glamorous days of yore did these airlines still choose representation?

Please feel free to post your findings.
Thank you.

Has nothing to do the original ludicrous statement/argument. Quit trying to hijack into a stupid pointless diversion.

It has EVERYTHING to do with your point of contention: that the process has worked for decades.
You don't want to admit that we are living in a different world than when these small, homogenous groups joined together for representation.
You just want people to accept what you think are cute little sound bytes. That may work for some of the newbies down in ATL but not for people with a grasp of history and the issues at hand.
"Stupid, pointless diversion?" Sounds like the news today has someone a bit edgy.

Sounds like Dapoes is getting SCARED!! Fair is fair, and i agree, how about everyone starts out as a "YES" vote and you have to vote "NO" if you dont want it.. DAL doesnt want union on property for MANY reasons to their advantage. On my last trip, a f/a from ATL, said when DAL was in a voluntary furlough period, she was at the store behind a DAL f/a, The 30 year DAL f/a started a conversation with the UAL f/a and said that she was on voluntary furlough, and she was supposed to go back to work 3 months prior, but DAL called her and told her she didn't need to come back "just yet", even though her return date was slotted 3 months prior. The UAL f/a told her, "Well, if you had a contract you wouldnt have to worry about coming back to work, and I bet you voted the union down didn't you?" The DAL f/a said "yes, i voted against it" UAL f/a said "I don't feel sorry for you then" ... Unreal how people are so naive, I just cant believe you guys put up with that stuff.

2BlacknBlue don't worry "da"poes will run his mouth on hear till the vote is counted and the F/A votes in the AFA and the the ACS votes in the IAM. Then Delta will not need 'da'poes anymore and they will use that "AT WILL EMPLOYMENT" talk while they walk him out

Funny, I thought Dapoes was a female.

I do not think some people know how senior DL really is, I know where I rank on the tentative seniority list and there are thousands and thousands senior to me. That is also a reason why I believe DOH is the only fair way to go.

so I dont quite buy this idea "at will" they just get rid of people just to be doing it.

because the seniority disproves it, they would be a junior company instead of a senior one!

Interesting factoid, Dig that you may not know about.
During the 2008 Delta AFA election, the company stated that FAs should consider WAITING to vote in the union in hopes that they may do better in seniority integration than AFA's Consititutional madate of date of hire. Of course, we see where that went.........doh anyway.

there is nothing settled at all regarding seniority.

until there has been an actual seniority integration meeting (which has not happened at all)

and DOH is agreed to by both parties.

You know, Dignity..sometimes you just have to read between the lines, girl.
Fact: If AFA wins the election, guess what? DATE OF HIRE per their CONSTITUTION.
Fact: If AFA loses, the Seniority Integration Commitee has comprised a list that is basically, DATE OF HIRE.
Now, If AFA loses, are you suggesting that DL and (former)NW f/a's would sit down and discuss some other type of proposal?? That is slightly possible....but a real looooongshot.

It does not matter what they write in the constitution, they could have written everyone goes to the bottom of the list.

with a seniority arbitration law on the books going forward both parties must agree and if not it will be resolved
by an arbitrator.

seniority integration today is separate from representation.

DL has shown they infact do the right thing when they agreed to D.O.H. on their part.

(it said a lot)

The McCaskill-Bond only applies to unionized workers, not non-union

that law enables seniority protection for all airline employees.

PS:

Dont let the facts get in the way.
