Unionization

There is a big differences, it took two chapter 11 filings, three rounds of concessions and a CBA abrogation for outsourcing to occur.

You cant say the same about CO, WN(when ibt), UP, now can you?
Now 700uw here are a few more for you.
CAL was outsourcing (before IBT was voted in)
Frontier was outsourcing (before IBT was voted in)

And the reason THEY WENT IBT was OUTSOURCINGby the company, So they got the IBT to Protect JOBS!!!!!!

HAVE A NICE IBT NIGHT!

Helped International Presidents maintain CEO lifestyles off the collection of my dues!! 😉
due entirely from your tireless involvement and dedication to the goals of being a union member?
or are you only a member at contract time? 😱

100% for the IBT
You will have to send more than 25 on 3 up west to make us change our minds!!!!
step away from the damn computer.........

curious as to your monthly meeting turn outs and lodge activity's....

of course I shouldn't have to ask......i'm sure you'll honestly say 100%...

Involvement and satisfaction with the union is not registered by monthly meeting attendance. Listening to the membership that is paying the dues is a wiser way to judge.

Look at it this way!!! IAM does it one way…And IBT does it another way to stay in touch with its MEMBERS.

WITH WHAT I HAVE POSTED USE SOME COMMON SENSE.

STEWARDS ARE NOT PAIED BY IBT!!!!
STEWARDS ARE UNION BROTHERS!!!!

DELL what are AGC at the IAM PAIED by the way??????

DELL HAVE A NICE IBT DAY!

monthly meeting attendance is a good measure of where the memberships at with their respective union and it is one of the ways they can be heard.

no one attends....no one cares.....good measure.

wether or not a meeting is attended, I believe that the whole moral of the story is is whether or not the union can come thru and help their members in time. We used to have a shop steward who'd travel the 65 miles to attend numerous phl meeting (our local lodge) and when he asked for assitance for us the union paying members, no one bothered helping or even answering his questions. He has since then retired from usair. That was how the IAM treated us in class 2 cities then.

Uhhhhh, not quite.

The IAM saw fit to put stations like FAY, AVL, TYS, CHS, and ILM in a local in INT. INT did not have air service, so a local meeting involved a 3 to 8 hour ride, one way.

And, since fleet is a 365 day operation, most folks had to work. If you shift traded off to go to the meeting, the union brother accepting the trade couldn't attend.

Now, the IAM COULD have put those stations in the CLT local, and at least the meeting would have been a non-stop flight away.

Interestingly, none of those stations are now mainline, or IAM represented.

Coincidence?

Others have just said what I would have - attendance is not the measure of satisfaction. The membership opinion is, although you and I both know the IAM doesn't care about membership opinion. And before you say I am wrong don't forget I am a former IAM member. I have been there and done that and my a** is still sore.

not saying anyones wrong....diogenes makes a good point although during training at Winipisinger Education Center I met people from New Mexico who had a ride of 4 hours on average and they claimed like a 90% attendance rate.I couldn't believe it.
Any union is only worth what you put into it.In PIT,its paltry...you can blame IAM all you want but I guarantee if you put AMFA/IBT/TWU or anyother group in nothing would change....its the people that are the problem.PERIOD.

Others have just said what I would have - attendance is not the measure of satisfaction.

but on the other hand....no attendance is usually due to apathy caused either by a poorly run union or a poorly involved membership.
we should be addressing why we are down to 12% nationaly and why out of that figure its probably less than 25% are actively involved.

Dell with the changing times I think the Unions need to change.
Why not have WEBCAST UNION MEETINGS with log on to ask questions, Each member gets a log on and password.
That way people can pull it up at work or home or if they miss the meeting it can be recorded and stored on the unions web sight.
Also this gives the member a record of what the union has said.

Just one way to keep members attendance up and members to view the union web sight for up dates.
What do you think dell?

Anyone's local at any union would be happy with a 90%, that is hard to believe. And I agree with you as I have said before, the union is only as good as the membership. But to a degree that does fall on the leadership shoulders.

Meeting attendance is a strong indicator of participation. Every one of us can make an excuse of van pools, events, etc… but when you have less than 1% of the membership at meetings and 90% of the membership whining about what the union has done for ‘me’, you have no union.

I had a ‘union member’ tell me that we should have our ‘Labor Day’ rally on a day that was not a holiday!!! Our rally was on…………. ‘Labor Day’ go figure?

Unions are more than the monthly dues. If all you want is to pay for monthly dues representation, then don’t #### about the representation you get and don’t #### when the 1% whom attend meetings vote in a manner that is not acceptable to you.

We ‘active’ members will always decide for your lazy a$$es.
