Us 757's

One 757 is known as "Christine", from the Stephen King movie. I guess it's been known to do a lot of weird things.

And the customers love them, too:

1. They are filthy and worn down (the Star Alliance one is a doozey);

2. They never have parts in LAS when maintenance is required and the flight is resultingly delayed many many hours;

3. There are only 8 seats in FC, (edited)
 
The 757 is the most versatile and mission-capable aircraft in the fleet. If utilized for what is designed to do, it is a very efficient, comfortable, and reliable airplane.
Aircraft 600 is pretty special. It was the 3rd airframe off the assembly line, and the first 757 in revenue service. The first aircraft off the assembly line remains at Boeing as a test-bed aircraft, and number two serves a similiar role at NASA.
Number three, our 600, was delivered to EAL in 1981 and began revenue service late that year, despite accounts giving 1982 as the official revenue startup for the type.

Actually 600-609 came from Eastern. When US got these 10 planes back in the early 90s, they'd been sitting in the desert baking for a year or two and smelled just wonderful. NOT! Then when we started getting the new 757s from Boeing, US configured the galleys on the old EAL a/c to match and moved one of the lavs from the area by the 3L and 3R exits up to the 2L exit, which made much more sense. I think one of the later arrivals came from America West...or it was supposed to go to AWA but got changed to a US order at the last minute, or something like that.


The 757 was always a wonderful bird to fly and was my favorite, by far. Plus, we used to work them with 6 F/As and it was so easy! I hear they've fallen into disrepair lately, however....at least where the interiors are concerned. US has used them so much on the low yield, high density markets and they've apparently really taken a beating.
 
Those were good times... being one of the six F/As on the 757s when they were clean and we had nice service.

yeah, now the door to the lav locks and you have to put all of your weight against it to open it up, the panel door on the lav flaps "open and shut" constantly and will never close, the drain for the coffee overflow doesn't drain and causes overflow all over the floor making the floor very sticky, the walls are disgusting, the pax are rude and disruptive on these flights, but the F/A's are really great--the F/A's are as beaten up as the 757's (no, not their exterior), but continue to give great customer service.
 
This might be a little off topic, and to early to preduct, but how does the new USAirways intend to address consistency and predictability? That is probably my biggest complaint. For awhile, you never knew what to expect with, for example, meal service, in FC--what's a transcon, what's a midcon, what's a midcon for catering purposes, when do you get the movie, when don't you get the movie, etc.

Now, it is my understanding that AWA has 14 seats in FC and US has 8 on the 757. I think the 737 and A320's are configured differently too. Is the new airline going to use the US 757's on the same routes as it does now, or are they going to reconfigure them.

Also, any idea what the new frequency to LAS will be and what types of planes they will use? Right now, to LAS, unless I buy the A-fare, my chances as upgrade even as a US1 are limited, and if my plans change while I am there, row 22E is where I am ending up if I can even change the flight at all.

NASA's 757 also came from EAL via the desert. It flew around for several years with the original EA "hockey stick" livery, with a small NASA Langley Research Center decal above the windows. Supposedly when they were overhauling it for the NASA mission, they found a good stash of cocaine hiden onboard, a souvenir of EA's South American network.

After a few years, NASA got some money and painted the aircraft white.
