Time for a new thread for the week.

We apparently still have some folks who either don't understand the rules or who don't want to abide by them. We have removed a good number of posts, and the corn field is VERY crowded right now, but there is plenty of room for more of you.....

OBSERVE THE RULES OF THE BOARD PLEASE. Your compliance is not optional.

As a courtesy to one of our members, here is a link to a news story about the pilots' dispute. Please discuss here, and do NOT start a separate thread.

Thank you.
Best thread in the Forum, this pilot labor dispute. Let's kick it off again on proper footing. As usual, one way to get it rolling. MIKE CLEARY.

Mike Cleary, president of the US Airline Pilots Association, which represents US Airways pilots, blasted Parker's remarks in an April 1 letter to pilots.

"Mr. Parker actually had the temerity to publicly say he would structure any merger in a fashion that would intentionally circumvent the merger protective provisions of our contract," Cleary said. "These provisions were paid for by our pilots with significant concessions designed to help this company get to the day when a merger could happen.

The part that I found interesting was the quote from “fearless leader” Cleary. I guess someone failed to inform his high and mighty that we have already HAD a merger. AWA/USA, it happened 5 years ago. Since it slipped passed him during one of his trips to capital hill Parker has already structured one merger to avoid the change of control provision why would he miss that little gem in the next one?

Once again the much older and self proclaimed smarter east pilots paid for a concession that had no value and are still trying to collect on a worthless debt.

“get to the day when a merger could happen” Maybe this is why the east pilots are so wrong about Nicolau. Even the president of the new union is in full phase denial that a merger actually happened. He is going to be shocked if there is a merger and he has to hand over a list with 5000 names ordered by an arbitrator.

Deny, deny, deny maybe it will just go away.

Merger? All I see forever on the horizon is separate ops. This is one colossal failed "merge." The real deal is what Parker wants to do, but can't. We'll see how he tries to get out of this one. Could be very interesting. He certainly exhibited his usual acumen, having never cultivated any good will with the east employees. This is why the AWA bottom dweller operation persists. Multiple MEL's, smelly lavs, no innovation. Now he may have to come to the east pilots for some help when his campaign of smear tactics fails to garner results. That is, if he wants to do a deal before it is too late. Notice there was no mention of PHX by Ted Reed when he discussed good assets?

The Honorable Neil M. Wake

Discuss...
What is there to discuss? You got a local Bush fan appointed to a big position as payback to someone else, and he stuck his nose into INTERNAL UNION AFFAIRS when he should have stayed out. There was no damage. The only damage was done by yourselves at WYE RIVER. Self inflicted wounds don't count.

The part that was interesting was what wasn't mentioned, PHX, LAS, all those valued assets and the FACT to cut a DEAL DP has to go through the EAST,(no mention of a WEST problem) FRAGMENTATION will be the PLAY, no merger , were worth more in pieces than together! MM! Dream on about a 5000 member arbitrated list!

We are putting his image on our new badge backers. The Honorable Neil Wake level. The one that led the AOL over the cliff..........
Odds are you are in for a big surprise. My guess is, however, that you already suspect Wake's rulings will be upheld, but know that saying so doesn't fan the flames of the east deception. The west pilots and others who agree with their position on these boards will not be swayed by statements made in ignorance, hyperbole, or a pathological overconfidence. Keep going though – these kinds of posts are always good for a laugh if nothing else.

Got anything to back up that claim? Any words from an airline CEO or a respected industry analyst who is claiming that fragmentation and splitting up US is considered a strategy worth pursuing? Doug has never, ever spoken of fragmentation as good or preferable situation. On the contrary, he has spoken repeatedly about the need to merge and consolidate. Care to revise your statement?

It seems in those moments when the east knows there will be no legal escape from the NIC that they start professing their hopes in US selling off the west or in some other scorched earth policy. Hopeless futility certainly does give rise to some really wild and baseless schemes. I recommend you should just be grateful for every day the 9th delays its ruling so as to savor the best “victory” USAPA can hope for. Soon this time will be over and you may wish you had enjoyed the fruits of your temporary delay just a bit more. Darker times are coming for the east psyche.

An article written by an author that is a former east pilot with a proven bias. Well if that does not prove your case I don’t know what would.

You finally got something right. Parker is going to go THROUGH the east. Not in the sense that he will come to you and make a deal, just that he is going to run right through usapa and the east pilot because you will be unable to do anything about it.

A little review of history. Did any of you east guys know the AWA/USA merger was coming? Did any of you do anything to stop it? Was that change of control provision in your contract during our merger?

What makes you guys think that the next one will be different? Other than your self important attitude?

You guys keep dreaming about fragmentation. Separate, the east is a small commuter with a couple of international flight staffed by ancient pilots flying ancient airplanes. Any fragmentation merger the east pilots are going to find yourselves a very small minority against a very large and hostile pilot group with a much better organized and funded union.

As always be careful what you wish for.

Yes the 5000 pilot arbitrated list is here. See the federal injunction. Unless the ninth rules against judge Wake that is and will be the list. You guys are hanging a lot of hope on a small chance.

If memory serves I think I remember that there were some posts on US Aviation that discussed the possibility of that in the 2-3 month time span prior to the announcement. There weren't a lot of posts and many of them were somewhat questioning of how AWA could be the potential partner, but staring at liquidation has a tenancy of opening ones eyes to possibilities.

Very little factual info regarding the West in any of Ted's articles. He fails to realize, his former airline is no longer the controlling entity of this company, (kind of like the east pilots). The interesting thing about this article is not even found in the article, but in the reader replies. The public gets what happened here, yet Ted Reed and the east pilots still have their collective heads buried in the sand.

I guess you didn't see the latest 330's that showed up. Couple of Int'l flights? You are right, Parker was really having a hard time trying to decide where to put that 330 flying. I know PHX was right up there, but what the heck, lets' put them in PHL, AGAIN....... The merger, lets' see, our money, our certificate. I guess that is why the change in control was not the issue it is now. And it is a big issue now.UAL or one of the others wants nothing of the Airways name. Now it is an issue. You can go on and on about imminent demise. You guys needed something just as fast as the east did. Certainly was no time wasted getting rid of all reminders of AWA. If there is a merger, it is going to be all about CLT and PHL, especially the Int'l and Islands. PHX is a low yield hub with large SWA presence. Just like LAS. Going forward? We are going to see some very interesting and good things coming to the East. And when that happens, you are going to be well aware of what a massive and devious policy error you took in the past with regard to pay parity. You will reap what you sowed, ill will.

This guy has been on to this airline for years. It has been a long, disgraceful history. Good employees, a running string of losers at the top stealing everything they can get their hands on. Have to give it to Parker though. Took a lowball salary, then keyed his compensation to on time. Padded the life out of the schedule, just to skim the cash, again. What a way to run an airline. He must have been hanging around Uncle Stephen Wolf when he was a kid. You have to admit, it was a heck of a scam. What did he get for running the lowest regarded airline for years on end? 12 million?
