I know it's a fruitless endeavor but lets rehash what a "Scab " is....
(1) : a worker who refuses to join a labor union (2) : a union member who refuses to strike or returns to work before a strike has ended (3) : a worker who accepts employment or replaces a union worker during a strike (4) : one who works for less than union wages or on nonunion terms
So, now that you've defined what a scab is, explain what it is that they do. I'll help.
They take advantage of a situation where individuals are risking their professional livelihoods, for their own personal gain. In short, selfishness is the core of what makes scabbing so reviled.
USAPA codified selfishness in it's C&BL's from the very start by excluding west participation in crafting them. They knew that the west would not accept the tyranny of the majority without a fight, so they designed their union to succeed by interfering with the progress of integration until they got their upgrades and then they could care less. End Of Alpa is proof positive of this tactical cornerstone.
They could care less about the senior pilots who will never see any improvement in wages over LOA93, while the angry F/O Founding Children greedily take their 30% upgrade pay increase and never look back.
They could care less about the west pilots who are stymied in their quest for a better contract by the unnecessary delay in concluding the integration.
They could care less about the new hire who inherits a toxic workplace, made so only by the F/O's who spread the fear and bigotry of the west pilot group as an artificial cement to temporarily bind the east together. True unity is something both difficult to make and volatile to contain and USAPA knows they are ill-equipped to mess with it. Instead they employ FUD to deflect blame for the bankruptcy wages from themselves and onto their villain du jour.
They could care less about the 32,000 families who slug it out every day and don't earn 6 figures or work in an air conditioned cockpit, but instead play recklessly with a campaign that creates a myth of safety problems where none exist, and rely on there hubris of being able to shut off those ill effects like a spigot when they've either had their desired effect, or been proven an abject failure. But everyone else knows that the public perception will not change on a dime and that the effects of driving passengers away will linger longer than they ever imagined. That's why matches are kept out of children's reach.
They could care less about the passengers they inconvenience with phony write-ups or artificial delays that are so transparent they beg for disciplinary procedures. They could care less about the anxiety that they promote when immature pilots follow their union leadership and get On Board only to find that they don't enjoy the same immunity from discipline that their leaders have.
Missfit, that's why they are scabs. The core group of angry F/O's have narrowly gained control of the union and are exploiting all they can for their personal gain at virtually everyone else's expense. And every one who idly sits by and allows apathy and inertia to keep them in power is equally guilty.
