US Pilots Labor Discussion

The reason I say that I have to be ready to be a F/O under the Nic is because of the large number of west F/Os that are senior to me on the Nic, that are not, and never have been, a captain.
How many East F/Os are senior to you?

Here is an interesting email sent to a large group of East pilots this evening:

YOU IDIOTS BETTER NOT XXXX THIS UP. IF FERGESON GETS IN, IT'LL BE ON YOUR SHOULDERS!

WE KNOW EACH AND EVERYONE ON THIS LIST AND YOU'LL BE GETTING PHONE CALLS IF THE WEST COMES OUT OF THIS THE WINNER.
Another example of why prison time is being earned by a few radicals. This patently illegal behavior is nothing new to us. Gotta love the East on East crime.

Come on, admit it, you really do like me.

You like Jim too.

No Dan, I don't. You are on my list of least favorite F/Os. I found you to be arrogant, and with me borderline insubordinate. When I told you to start both engines, you ignored me and asked PHL ramp control how many A/C were in front of us. When I told you that the engines needed 5 mins warm up, you asked me where I got that and I had to show you in the A/C manual where it was required. If not for a Republic jumpseat rider you would today have a new ####. Is that clear?

But you are ahead of Jim. I despise him as I do anyone that calls me a child molester.

Are we clear?

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. 🙂 lol

It's the same story as every single West pilot.

No res, it's not. I have quite a few west friends. An old roommate is one of your bosses, and I can assure you that he is NOTHING like you. He stands his ground, but he is not an ####. You have massive anger issues and I suggest you get help.

Crystal.

You're not into CRM. You don't like having your orders questioned.

I am massively into CRM. That's why I didn't dress you down in front of a jumpseat rider. But if you are too stupid to know the operational requirements of the A/C, no, I won't let you "run the ship" to make you feel better. You were wrong. Period. You are just not as smart as you think you are.

You are out to lunch on this one. I told him to start both engines because there were no airplanes in line for 27L in PHL and the airplane had been on the ground for 2 hours. It was the right thing to do and he ignored my command. There is one captain, period. Read your FOM. He was not even aware of the requirement for a 5 min warm up on a multimillion dollar engine. I was, and that is MY responsibility, and no one will take that away from me. The CRM came in because I didn't tell him that he was an idiot in front of a jumpseat rider. I told him to start it, and then when we were on our way to RDU I showed him the relevant section in the POH. Even then he didn't accept his error, he said "When did they put that in there". I said "For as long as we have been single engine taxi".

CRM is a philosophy to create an atmosphere where resources and communications are effective in threat and error management, as a barrier to trap a mistake or error that could lead to serious safety consequences. It isn't there to second guess captain's decisions on every operational matter such as single or two engine taxi or when to board or whether or not wait for catering, etc. In a matter totally unrelated to safety such as whether to start one engine or two(although it could be argued in ramp area's or general taxi two engine taxi is always safer) once the captain has made a decision and further explained it as a safety issue by wanting to ensure sufficient engine warm up time, what reason is there to question it? Certainly neither safety or protection from deviating from any ATC clearance is involved. The only answer is one is either an a$$ or has captain wannabe issues.

Hey G.G., how are you? It takes me a while, but I get there! ;-)

Pi,

Waaay more time in right seat than left. This Dan fella seems unbelievable . Anyone who has spent a couple decades learning from an incredible group of captains who behaves in manner you described is hopelessly ignorant!
He is the one Failing CRM.
Hey Dan........start the friggin motor and address your pov at an appropriate time.

In his defense, he is not a bad guy. Like most pilots we agreed on far more than we disagreed. He really tried to take care of the F/As, and since I'm married to one I appreciated that. I just think he fell into the trap that if you don't agree with X, then you are Y. A lot of us do that, and even though I try not to, I fall into the same trap.

I just kind of hit my limit this week.............
